4. Want to be friends again?

They say the things that are the most unpredictable in life are often the most joyous and good. Maybe if meeting your old friend reincarnated in the clique you belong in was good then it was most certainly unpredictable.

Scarlett stared, for the first time, eagerness and enthusiasm twinkling in her eyes at Ace, as he lifted his head slightly. He shook himself off so that his hair wasn't covering his face and gave a small, almost unseen, smile to Scarlett. If Scarlett was a candle then she would've melted all through and left a little puddle of shivering happiness. Her breath caught in her throat as a stray piece of hair fell into his face and he blew it up with his mouth. That feeling when you know you've fallen into the deep, dark pit of love dawned over Scarlett, but she shook it off, wanting to swoon a little more before he looked away again.

His hair had been dyed black which pleased Scarlett wildly- she always used to fantasize about him having black hair and she even told him on a couple of occasions. He also had gotten snakebites. Scarlett couldn't stop staring at him. They just looked deeply into each others souls, no doubt remembering the times when they were best friends. The whole room was slipping away, silence greeting them like an old friend.

Scarlett was bemused, amused and quite frankly, confused with what happened to Ace and why he had changed himself. A million questions ran circles in her head but she pushed it all aside, and not knowing why, pulled the most mind-blowingly beautiful grin at him.

Reality shattered the glass windows of their moment and loud gasps greeted them. The loudest gasp and most shocked person was Scarlett's dear enemy Alison herself, perplexed with the beauty that Scarlett had.

Ace looked back, completely in awe, staring at those pretty dark blue braces on Scarlett's teeth. Her skin radiated, aglow, and in that one moment alone, she looked completely contempt with life. Now realising he was probably looking like an idiot staring at her, he smiled back at her, that one and only smile that made angels sing in Scarlett's heart.

Fortunately his back was turned to the class, and that diagonal gaze at Scarlett only made him feel so much more special.

Minutes passed, feeling like hours. The class didn't utter a single word; not the boys muttering about Fifa and Xboxes, not the girls exchanging beauty tips under their breath. Even Mrs Robertson rubbed her eyes vigorously seeing Scarlett smile, which she hadn't seen since the end of year 7.

Suddenly Scarlett didn't feel the scars that lined her arms; nor did she feel the need to hide herself from him. He had taken her heart and ripped it from her chest. The little heart was now consumed by Ace, and Ace alone.

"Hey Ace." A whisper rang out across the class. A strained but light voice being heard all over the class, even though she didn't mean for that to happen.

"Hey Lace." And in that moment, both of them knew that they were to be forever true companions.
