Four Years Later... (Sequel to 'Behind the Truth')

*Sequel to 'Behind the Truth'*

"Sometimes I have the luck that every girl wants, but not the life..."

7. Tricks and Lies.

Louis' POV:

When an unknown number called me, I flinched. Who would call me in the morning? It must be the management, telling us we have a interview or performance we had to do. I reluctantly picked it up, hearing an unfamiliar man's voice on the line. I was about to hang up until I heard him say he was from the radio.

"Hey! This is 92.3 FM Radio Station. You have just won a call from a fan. She's here now. So, both of you enjoy and get to know each other. Don't worry, this will not be on surveillance. Bye now!"

It was silent for a while, despite the sound of car horns honking the street on the other line. "Um, hi." It was a girl. "So apparently, I won a call from a celebrity."

"Yeah, if I do say so myself, I am a celebrity." I replied, giving the phone call a shot.

"So I suppose I should ask who you are first, right?" She asked me innocently.

"Not before I know the fan's name. Ladies first."

"How do you know I'm a lady?" She started to joke.

"So, you're a man?" I joked back.

I heard her chuckle, "False. I'm a teenager."

I laughed along, "Alright. So, teenager.. What's your name?"

"Should I trust you? Or are you some kind of stalker?"

I laughed once again, she seemed pretty cool. "Hey, I did say I was a celebrity, right?"

"Very true. Anyways, my name's Carter."

My mouth went agape. It couldn't be. Could it? Think Louis, think. There are a bunch of Carters in the world, right? It couldn't be the one I was thinking of, right? Could this be fate? Wait, just ask for her last name first, then panic.

The voice on the other line spoke again, jarring me out of my thoughts. "Hello?"

"Oh, I'm sorry. If I may ask.. again, what's your full name? I would love to know you better." I lied, partly.

"Would you tell me your name if I told you mine?" She bet.

"Promise?" She made me promise? I couldn't. What if she didn't want to know?

"I'm Carter. Carter Hanson." That's when I dropped my phone and my mouth flew open. Eleanor turned around, seeing me in a frozen position. She picked up my phone and looked at the caller ID. It turned into a blocked number.

"Who is it?" She mouthed.

I didn't answer, so Eleanor took over. She put the call on speakerphone. "Hey, I'm the girlfriend. Who is this?"

"Oh, sorry. I-I was just this winner on this contest on the radio for a celebrity phone call-"

"It's okay. I know you weren't flirting. May I ask, what's your name?"

"Oh, I'm Carter. Carter Hanson." That's when Eleanor froze just like me. "Um, hello?"

"Hey Lou, El, we're going to the market. If you need- What happened?" Liam suddenly barged in with Louise. He went up to me and Eleanor, holding the phone. He mouthed the same question that Eleanor asked. I vigorously pointed to the phone and mouthed to ask for her name.

"Hi. I'm the friend. Who is this?" He followed my gesture with Louise listening from behind.

"Wow, are you guys in a party or something? Should I hang up? I didn't mean to interrupt-"

"No interruptions, love. We're just all in the same room together." Liam answered. He looked at me confusedly as I scratched my head, pacing around my room. Liam was kneel down on the carpet, holding the phone. "So, what's your name, love?"

"Again, I'm Carter Hanson." Boom. Everyone froze. I recovered (a little) and took the phone.

"Sorry, this is the first person you started to talk to. I just had to go to the loo." I told her. I acted as if I was calm, but in the inside, I was freaking out. We found her. Fate.

"Oh, hi. So, what about that promise we made?" She mentioned. "Are you going to tell me your name or not?"

Liam and everyone else made a face to tell me not to tell her my name. I felt bad, I made a promise. "My name, uh-" I scratched my head. "...IS..."

"Um, do you not remember your name?"

"O-Of course I do." I was just thinking of one. "M-My name is... ED SHEERAN." I blurted out. Everyone looked at me wide eyed, like they didn't tell me to lie. I just shrugged.

She gasped. "OH MY GOODNESS. I love your songs! They are so amazing! I've always been a huge fan!" She paused for a second, "Wait.. Your voice sounds a little different from your interviews.."

I cleared my throat, "Yeah. Uh, it's probably the phone line. Long distance, perhaps." I watched Liam curiously as he tried to figure out what I was talking about. Then, I looked back at the window to focus. "Enough talk about me. Let's hear about you, ahem.. Carter."

"Oh, well like I said from before; I'm Carter Hanson. I'm a big fan of your work. I'm kind of a singer and writer myself." She informed.

"That's great! Where are you from?"

"I'm originally from Cheshire, England. But my parents moved to New  York for a job transfer."

I sulked, "Oh. That must be hard for you to leave your friends, huh?"

She sighed, "Yeah. Kind of."

"So what's your biggest dream?"

"Oh my goodness, I just dreamed of meeting you someday." She told me.

My eyes lit up like a light bulb flashing in my head. "Maybe you can." Everyone started to look at me like I was crazy. I put my hand up to wait and explain later. I turned away from them and continued to talk.

"Huh?" She sounded confused.

"I would love to meet you someday. You seem like a lovely girl. I could arrange a flight for you to come to Cheshire. I've got a few concerts here, and I would love to see you in between times."

"Oh, that's such a huge offer. I would love to. But sadly, I can't. My parents would never let me go across the world alone."

"But, aren't you a teenager?" I raised my eyebrows. Wasn't she?

"I'm 18." She retorted.

"No offense, but aren't you old enough to do anything now?"

"Yeah, but my parents are those types who are  too overprotective of their kids."

"I think my team and I could make it happen." I winked to everyone.

"Really?" I could hear her beam through the phone.

"Really." I nodded reassuringly. "I'll just need your number, and your parents' number."

After the phone call, I got Carter's number, her parents' number, and hung up after talking for a few more minutes. I dropped back on the bed and stared at the ceiling to think about what I just did. Should I be proud I lied to her?

Then, I felt a hard slap on my arm, causing me to jump. "Ow!" I rubbed my arm. "What was that for?"

"Why would you lie to her like that?" She huffed, crossing her arms.

"This would be the only way for her to see us again! She probably misses us a lot. And you know that you do too." I reasoned. They all sighed simultaneously, thinking that I was right. "Is that a yes?"

Silence came between us for a few minutes before Eleanor spoke. "Do we tell Harry?" Eleanor asked. "I mean, we could tell Jasmine and Niall, right?"

"No! We cannot tell Harry whatsoever. We could tell Jasmine and Niall, but not Harry." Liam defended straightly.

"'Not Harry', what?" Harry suddenly came in, making us jump.

"Not tell Harry..about the.... the... f-favorite foods Louise and I were going to buy at the market. Let's go, Louise." Liam covered, grabbing Louise's hand, sprinting towards the door.

"Eleanor and I should be heading out too. Let's go, El." I walked out the door cautiously, followed by El who gave me a relieved face. Phew.

Just remember, this is a good thing you're doing for your friend..
