30. The Beach.

Carter's POV:

Harry's lips were soft as they moved against mine for a while. I didn't know why I didn't pull away, because I just felt that it was the right moment. He cupped my face with his right hand while the other one held me by the waist, pulling me closer.

I was savoring the moment for a short amount of time before a thought entered my mind. I quickly pulled away, mentally slapping myself. "T-Taylor." I breathed out, taking a step back from him.

"What?" He stopped to look at my frightened face.

"T-Taylor. I can't do this to her." I gasped out. I looked away, not wanting to see his pained face when I broke the moment.

Ugh, why was I so stupid? Harry has a girlfriend, you idiot. Why did you kiss back? What if the fans saw? Worse, the paps? My life would be completely ruined if this ended up anywhere.

Let me just clear out my head; I didn't expect this to happen, that's for sure. I thought it was just a day with Harry. Not making out with Harry. Idiot.

I sighed, "I-I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done this. C-Can we just go home?" I asked hopefully.

He didn't answer, he just simply nodded, leading me back to the streets to hail a cab.

The next day when I woke up, the room was empty. I looked over to Harry's bed, noticing that it was empty. I slid out of bed and sighed, remembering what had happened last night. Was this going to affect us now?

I stood up and walked into the bathroom. I actually hoped that taking a nice, long shower would wash away my thoughts.

After 15-20 minutes, I finally got dressed and stepped outside. I thought the best way to hide whatever happened is to be perky and happy. But not too happy. "Hello!" I greeted everyone at the table. They were all seated together as they ate their breakfast that Liam cooked. "Smells delicious." I perked, standing behind Niall's seat.

"Thanks Carter. We have to eat up fast, because we have sound check in an hour." Liam explained, being the fatherly and responsible one in the gang.

I looked for a seat before I realized the seat next to Harry was the only available one left. How lucky am I...

I sighed, knowing that if I sat someplace else, they would know something's up between me and Harry. So I reluctantly sat beside him as he cleared his throat when I arrived. "Hi." He greeted, wiping his mouth with a napkin.

I smiled back, not mentioning to say hi back. Liam marched towards me as he handed me the plateful of breakfast and smiled, walking back into the kitchen.

I hurriedly ate my breakfast and went back to mine and Harry's room, seeing himself already showered and  dressed. He was sat on the bed, reading a magazine. When he noticed my presence, I couldn't help but let out a sigh. I shut the door quietly and walked over to his bed, sitting by the edge, next to his knees.

After a small moment of thought for myself as I played with my fingers, I looked back up. "Harry.." I started. "I don't want this being awkward between us. So, can we keep it like nothing happened?" I asked hopefully.

He put his magazine down and let out a breathy sigh. He sat up and looked at me straight in the eyes. "I can't keep it like nothing happened.." He said quietly, his voice sounding deeper than usual.

"Why?" I said, almost feeling annoyed.

"Because..." He paused. "...I can't stop thinking about it."

I stared at him for a moment, feeling my eyes widening for a while. "W-What?" I said breathlessly.

He shifted his seat, turned to look at me directly into my eyes, and held both my hands. I knew I should have took them away. "I couldn't stop thinking about last night."

I was taken back at his response. I seriously didn't know what to say next. Did he like me again? Did I like him again? "I-uh.."

I was cut off by Niall barging in as he walked towards us and squeezed in between us. "Hey, just came to tell you that we're leaving in 10 minutes. Better get ready while you can!"

I moved away, preventing myself from getting squished from him. "Oh-kay."

"So.." Niall started, avoiding an awkward conversation. He popped a 'p' as he swung himself back and forth. "Whatchu guys talkin' about?"

"Nothing." Harry and I said simultaneously.

Niall looked at both of us weirdly before commenting that we were both weird and left, grabbing me behind him. "I guess I'm leaving." I said before he completely dragged me out of the room.

He stopped me by the hallway and turned to look at me. I was beginning that these boys were getting real nosy. "Okay, so... what happened?"

"What are you talking about?" I asked innocently, crossing my arms.

"I know Harry.. and I know you.." He also crossed his arms. "...I know something happened there, Carter."

I touched his shoulder, shaking it reassuringly. "I'm fine, he's fine. We're all fine, Nialler. Can we drop it?"

He pointed a finger at me. "A-HA! So there is something going on!"

I scoffed at him, smiling. "Oh Niall.." I ruffled his hair. "You goofball.." I mentioned before walking away from him.

The boys' sound check went by really slow, if I may say. I kept waiting for the agony to end so I could go hang out with the boys as much as I can. It's only been a week in LA and it wasn't going by as quickly as I thought it would be. I sighed, crossing my arms as I saw the boys finishing up their last song before the stage manager called it a day.

I popped a popcorn in my mouth as Liam came up to me and smiled. "Heey Carter. Having fun?"

"I'm bored!" I whined, pouting my lip. "Can we go have some fun now?"

He chuckled, "Sure Carter. Let me just grab my things and we can go wherever you want to."

I nodded as he walked towards the boys' dressing room. I waited patiently by the snack table with the girls. I made conversation with them, telling them how it's been and other gossips.

"YOU AND HARRY KISSED?" Eleanor whisper-shouted. I shushed her, turning my head towards the boys dressing room as I saw nobody in sight but Eleanor, Louise, and Jasmine.

"SHHHH...!" I put my finger to my lips. "..I'm only telling you this because I need your guys' advice. What should I do!? Harry has a girlfriend, and I don't want to be in the middle of their relationship."

Louise sighed, leaning on the snack table. "Well, there's nothing you can do except talk to him about it. See how he feels."

"Well, I did. This morning after breakfast... right before Niall interrupted us." I shrugged. "I need to figure out what he was going to say." I paused, looking down at a far distance. "I mean, I guess-"

"SHH.. Sh..! They're coming." Jasmine whispered, cutting me off. I turned around as Louis, Liam, and Niall opened their arms up for their girlfriends to jump on. The girls squealed and giggled as they ran into their arms. As for Zayn, Harry, and I... we were standing awkwardly around them as they finished their business.

I moved my foot, swaying from side to side as I waited patiently again for the couples to finish. Why couldn't I be like them? I thought. Shut it, Carter. You sound desperate.

Harry clasped his hand, making a sound to interrupt the awkward moment. "Where shall we go?"

Louis held Eleanor by the waist and smiled. "Well, it's a beautiful and sunny day... why don't we hit the beach?"

Everyone started to agree and cheer at his suggestion, except me. It's not that I didn't like the beach. I just felt insecure about my body in public places. I wasn't really the type of person who exposes their body. "Carter?" Zayn's voice broke me out of my thoughts.

I looked up, feeling dumbfounded. "Huh? ...What?"

Everyone started to look at me weirdly. "So are you in?"

I tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear and gulped. "Uh, o-okay."

Luckily, the boys' hotel was closer to the beach then we actually expected. It was basically a 5 minute walk from there. The boys, girls, and I took the back entrance, not wanting to be seen by the fans. We decided to walk there, since there wasn't any point in driving. Besides, it was good exercise and I definitely needed a walk.

The boys wore their own colored swim trunks and white v-necks with their sunglasses. The girls were wearing shorts and a tank top for cover up from their bikinis. For as I, was wearing a white sleeveless dress over a swimsuit that I really didn't plan on showing off.

"Yaaay!" Louis cheered, letting go of Eleanor's hand. "We're HERE!" He ran towards the edge of the ocean.

Surprisingly, it wasn't that crowded. There wasn't even that much people on the beach anyway. Most of them were either sitting down watching the waves or sunbathing. That was one thing I was planning on doing to avoid the water.

As we set our stuff down at a hidden spot someplace near the giant rocks, I sat on my beach chair, inhaling the scent of the beach water. I slipped on my glasses and leaned back on my seat, feeling the hotness from the sun hitting my skin.

The gang started to take off all their cover ups, ready to go in the water. I just sat there as I barely took off my sunglasses, slipping it off on the bridge of my nose.

"Come on Carter. Let's go to the water!" Niall tried pulling me out of my seat, but I wouldn't budge. "Carter!"

"No." I whined, resisting.

"Why?" He whined back.

I stood up and slipped off my sunglasses. "I want to relax first." I mumbled, rubbing the side of my arm nervously.

"You're lying." Niall said. I looked up at him.

"How would you know?" I replied.

"Carter, even though we haven't seen each other for four years, I know that when you're lying, you always rub the side of your arm." He answered, chuckling. "Now, what's really up?"

I stayed quiet.

"...afraid of your body?" He guessed.

I stayed quiet again.

"...don't make me sing it, Carter." He warned me, raising his eyebrows.

I pointed a finger at him. "Don't dare." I warned him back.

He smirked as he tilted his forward, raising his eyebrows again. "Look, there's no need to feel insecure." He rubbed my shoulder. "...you're beautiful. You should embrace your beauty."

"Easy for you to say. You're a guy. Tall, muscular, and handsome guy. So are the girls; beautiful, perfect body." I sighed.

"Stop it, Carter." He complained. I stopped and looked at him innocently as if I was getting 'The Talk' from my mom. "You are beautiful. Don't let insecurity get in the way of having fun at the beach. I know I don't normally say this, but... you only live once."

I just laughed. "You did not just say that."

He shrugged innocently, "I did. But that was just to prove a point." He told me. He took out his hand, "Now, will you go in the water now and have fun with your friends?"

I hesitated, "Uhm... o-okay."

After about four hours in the water, swimming, splashing, and playing nonstop, I was finally tired. I took a deep breath as I walked out of the water, going back to my beach chair. I lied down and rested peacefully until Niall came back, wondering why I left.

"I got tired." I answered dully, not picking my head up from my chair to look at him.

I felt him sit on the sand by my feet. He didn't say anything as I continued to relax. But when I felt as if he was staring, I sat up and saw him already staring at me. "What?"

He just shrugged, "Nothing. I'm just bored.... and hungry."

I scoffed, "You always are, Ni."

"Hey, do you want to go out for dinner?" He suddenly asked.

I looked around at the gang, seeing them still having fun by the water with themselves. "I don't know if I should stop them.."

"Oh, I meant... just you and me. I was hoping." He stammered.

I was surprised he asked me in that kind of way. But I knew he loves Jasmine, so I decided to accept his request. "Sure."
