Four Years Later... (Sequel to 'Behind the Truth')

*Sequel to 'Behind the Truth'*

"Sometimes I have the luck that every girl wants, but not the life..."

23. Plans.

Harry's POV:

What did I just do? What have I done? I just punched Carter in the face. I gasped, looking terrified. "Carter!" I kneel down to where she collapsed on the ground and tried to look at her. She covered her face with her hands, not wanting to be seen in pain.

"Oh man, you just punched your ex girlfriend, man." Derek laughed. "Good job." He patted my back, and I swatted his hand away. "Whatever. I don't want to be in the middle of this anyway." With that, he left the room, leaving me clearly terrified and concerned. I couldn't get ice, I couldn't take her to the hospital. What if she had a concussion?

"Carter? Please, I'm so sorry!" I tried to shake her and take her hand away, but she didn't budge. I quickly locked the door to her bedroom and carried Carter to her bed, trying to help her with the pain she had on her cheek.

She took her hands away from her face, revealing a purple bruise on her cheek. "I-I'm fine." She croaked. "W-Where's Derek?"

"H-He left. Please, tell me you're alright." I paused, "I'm so sorry, Carter." I apologized softly.

She let out a small chuckle. "I'm fine, Harry. Don't worry about me. It hurts, but I'm fine." She stroked my cheek, "I know you didn't mean it."

"How are you gonna hide this from your parents?" I asked, slowly feeling better from punching her.

"Don't worry about it. I'll figure it out."

Then, someone knocked on the door. Carter quickly wiped away her tears and stood up. "Yeah?"

"Carter? Did Derek leave or are you guys in there?" Carter's mom questioned through the door.

"No mom, he's not in here. He left." Carter replied.

"Oh, he didn't even eat. Are you still hungry?"

"No, mom. I'm not really hungry. I'm just tired. I'm just gonna head to bed, if that's alright. I have classes tomorrow, not to mention work."

"That's fine, sweetie. Go to sleep. Love you." Her mom said, her footsteps leaving a few seconds later.

Carter turned around, sighing of relief. She bounced back on her bed, "Come." She gestured to the empty spot next to her.

I was hesitant. "I don't want to hurt you."

She rolled her eyes, "Don't be a baby. I told you; I know you didn't do it on purpose. Get over here." She giggled.

I sighed, "Okay." I took off my shoes and jacket as I lied down next to her. She closed the lamp beside her on the bedside table and curled into my arm, slowly falling asleep.

I couldn't sleep. I just didn't know why. I looked up at the ceiling, thinking. I checked the clock; 3:30 AM. Carter was snuggled into my left arm, sleeping peacefully. Then, I saw her purple bruise. I couldn't help but feel so guilty that I did that to her. I grabbed my cell phone and checked at my messages.

3 missed calls.

13 new messages.

I looked at all the calls and messages I missed one bye one, with each boy asking me where I was. Unlike Louis, who was thinking so wrong. I rolled my eyes at his messages and pressed delete. I placed my phone back on the bedside table and attempted to sleep again. But, I couldn't.

Why not?

Carter's POV:

I woke up around 9 that morning, feeling a slight pain on my left cheek. Then, all the memories flew by from last night. Oh. I looked over to my side; Harry was fast asleep with his broad arms around me. I couldn't get up.

I sighed, slowly moving his arms around my waist so I could take a shower. I had classes in an hour, and I had to get ready soon.

"Noo.." He whined. "Come back." He muffled against the pillow.

I stood up, tying my hair to a high ponytail. I turned around to see his eyes halfway open. "I can't, Haz. I need to get ready. Unlike you, I have a school life."

He sat up, his back leaning against the bed board. He put his hands behind his head as he watched me grab my clothes out of my closet. "You should wear that."

I froze, holding the dress in my hands. "This thing? Ew."

"'EW'? Why do you have it if you think it's gross?" Harry questioned, looking at me weirdly.

"My mom bought me this. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I didn't like it." I hung the dress back on the rack, shuffling through many more outfits I thought I had in mind. "Now go freshen up before I take a shower."

He groaned as he stood up from the bed. "Fine, mum."

So the hard part of my morning was trying to find a way to get Harry out of my house. My mom was in the kitchen cooking breakfast while my dad was in the backyard, reading his newspaper. I don't even know why my parents like eating outdoors now. I slipped on my boots before I went downstairs, meeting my mom in the kitchen for a quick snack.

"Hey mom." I smiled, kissing her cheek before I searched through the refrigerator. I grabbed a glass of apple juice and placed it on the kitchen counter.

"Morning honey. We're having breakfast outside, if you still have time before class starts." She filled up two plates filled with bacon and eggs and walked outside. I followed right behind her, looking at Harry who was waiting by the hallway, ready to bolt. I waved my hand, letting him know that the coast was clear. He nodded, rushing out the front door to the house in success.

I sighed of relief when my mom turned around, looking confused. "What's wrong, hun?"

My eyes widened, "N-Nothing! I uhm, I think I'm gonna have to skip breakfast. I think Bella and I will get something on the way."

"Alright. Well you don't want to be late then. Have fun in school." Dad smiled as he kissed my cheek. I ran to the living room, grabbing my bag and books before I ran out the front door to meet Harry outside, waiting in his car.

I got in the car, smiling widely. "Success." I winked.

He started the engine, "We're so sneaky. You know, we could be spies."

"Don't push it, Styles. I almost got a heart attack when she turned around right when you closed the door." I scoffed. "Now, I'm off to school."

"Can't you skip class for one day?" He begged.

I playfully punched his arm, "You're really becoming a bad influence on me, Haz."

"Come on. I wanna hang out again."

"You have a girlfriend to hang out with. Go hang out with her." I laughed quietly.

"But she has so much concerts, I can't keep up! Her only free time was when you had to leave early." He rolled his eyes as he watched the road.

"Well I'm sure she'll make time for you. If two people love each other, they'll always make time for each other, no matter how busy their schedules are." I advised.

"Right." He said quietly, his face looking quite glum.

"So, I'm starting to think you're just ignoring my calls lately, Carter." Bella told me. I was scrubbing the dirty dishes when Bella came in the kitchen, wiping her hands with a dry rag.

"I'm so sorry, Bells. I've been crazily busy this past week. My classes, work, home, chores, and packing for my trip to LA." I sighed. "I wish everything would just stop so we can hang out. I really wish I could tonight, but I still need to finish packing. I'll call you when I get there and maybe you can come visit for the summer."

She smiled, "I wish. I'm not even close to the price of a plane ticket with this job." She scoffed.

"Hey, you have Josh, right?" I nudged her lightly.

She chuckled. "I guess."

Louis' POV:

"Hey mate! How was last night?!" I jumped excitedly, smirking at Harry when he came back.

"Nothing happened, Lou. We just had a small picnic in her bedroom. Then we looked at the stars on her balcony. OH. And I finally met Derek. Nice guy." I said sarcastically.

"You met Derek?" Eleanor gasped. "What happened?"

"Oh nothing. We almost had a fight in Carter's bedroom. He almost tried to punch me, but Carter tried to stop us." I sat on the couch. "I might've... accidentally.. punched Carter in the face..." I explained questionably.

"YOU WHAT?" Everyone almost shouted, wide eyed.

I back up. "Guys, it was by accident."

"Why would you punch Carter, mate!?" Liam scoffed.

"It was an accident, lads! I didn't mean to. It was all out of rage. Don't hound on me with all these questions." I buried my head in my hands tiredly. "Look. I'm really tired right now.. I couldn't sleep last night. I'm just gonna take a nap for a few hours." I stood up, ignoring everyone's stares and went to my room, hoping to take a good power nap.
