"Sometimes I have the luck that every girl wants, but not the life..."

32. Mixed Up.

Carter's POV:

The past few days have been such an experience for me. The gang and I had so much fun, you wouldn't even believe it. Other then the fact that Zayn and I have no one to be with for any of the clubs and parties, we decided to be each other's dates. Of course, with Perrie's approval.

Today, the boys had their concert tonight. Everyone was getting ready to leave for sound check, whereas I, was already finished getting dressed before everyone else. I watched as the girls frantically checked their purses for everything they needed; sunglasses, makeup, wallets, keys, and you know.. all the other girly items.

"Okay! Paul just called. We have to go!" Zayn announced.

I sat on the couch in the boys' dressing room while the boys went to sound check. The girls and I were basically left alone for a while. We heard the muffled singing from the closed door, signalling that they were just starting their rehearsals.

I grabbed a cup of water before sitting back down with Jasmine. We all started talking about random things, like how our lives turned out to be like, girl stuff, makeup, and y'know... others.

Eleanor glanced at me as Louise started to talk. I didn't seem to notice that much, because I was too lost in thought. Louise snapped her fingers at me numerous times to capture my attention before I looked up. "Huh? Sorry, what?"

"Are you alright, Carter? You seem a little... distracted.."

I tapped on my cup. "Huh? Whaaat? No.." I scoffed. "W-Why? What makes you think that?"

"Because you're shaking more like that time in 6th grade when you found out your third marking period report card grades."

I let out another scoff, followed by a little hand-wave. "What? Heh. There is nothing wrong with me." I chuckled dryly. Jasmine, Louise, and Eleanor were just staring at me with confusion in their eyes. "Heh Heh.. no?" I calmed down. "..okay.."

After a few seconds of complete awkward silence, I knew that they knew something was up with me. I stood up and hurriedly excused myself. I opened the dressing room door, just in time to see that the boys were finished with rehearsals. I walked past everyone, especially Niall and Harry. I looked at nobody in the eyes and just rushed past everyone passing me, until... I bumped into someone.

I let out an 'oof' and stepped back to hold my balance. "Carter, better watch we're you're going." Louis.

I rubbed my forehead and looked at him. "S-Sorry." I tried to continue to walk and avoid eye contact, but Louise just kept following me.

"Carter.." He grabbed my wrist. "What's wrong?"

I stopped and looked away. "Nothing, alright?"

He put his hands up in defense. "Sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel angry. Are you... in.. your week?"

I looked at him with disgust. "Louis!" I playfully slapped his arm and chuckled a bit.

"So you are!" He pointed at me, his smile appearing.

I crossed my arms. "No, I'm not."

He softened up. "Then...? What's the matter?"

I let loose of my arms and looked straight. "Everything."

He was confused. "Excuse me?"

I pulled him aside away from the dressing room to avoid anyone from coming out. We stood by the snack table and couches backstage. I leaned closer to him. "Everything..." I scratched my head. "I uh... kind of.. sort of... have...mixed... emotions."

I nonchalantly looked away, "Harry and Niall." I mumbled.

"What?" He said as if he didn't hear me. I could already see a smirk forming in his face.

"Harry and Niall, okay!?" I said a little louder.

He crossed his arms in disbelief, "W-Why? You know they have girlfriends."

I ran my fingers through my hair, "I know... I just..."

"Yeah, yeah. I know mixed feelings. We got through that. But why? HOW?"

"Wanna know how? It's hard, Louis. They're all giving me all mixed signals. Niall took care of me, helped me with my toughest times, and even came onto me like a best friend. I-I love how he treats me. Jasmine is definitely a lucky girl.. but my conscience says that I should be with him." I sighed, expressing everything that's been bothering me. "And Harry... he's been with my through everything. He stayed with me when I needed to get away from Derek, protected me, and has been extremely sweet to me."

"I'm awfully offended, Carter. I thought I helped you with Derek." Louis scoffed.

"This isn't funny, Louis. I know you're mad at me for having mixed emotions with them." I murmured, burying my face in my hands. "Please.. I don't know what to do.." I collapsed on the couch.

I felt his weight sit on the couch as I stayed hidden in my hands. "Carter.. I don't know what to tell you. How long has it been?"

"That day you were interrogating me about me and Niall. Y'know, the day he took me to see Ed." I told him.

I heard a snap, "I knew it! See.. I told you to be careful, Carter. Niall has moves every girl loves." I heard him sigh, "Look, Carter. I know you; you can make decisions. I know you can make the right one."

I looked away, resting my elbows on my knees as I slouched down on the couch. I felt his hand rub my shoulder, "Why don't we hang out together to get your mind off of things?"

"Be careful, Lou. I might fall for you then." I sarcastically joked.

I saw him smirk, "I do have that effect on girls."

I stood up, "Thanks, but I think we better go back before everyone gets all panicky on us." I grabbed his wrist and led him back into the dressing room, just in time to see everyone grabbing their things to go.

"Hey, is everything okay?" Niall asked.

I let out a weak smile, hoping nobody would notice. "Yeah. Everything's fine."

I grabbed my bag and eyed Louis, where I saw him take a glance from talking to Harry. His eyes told me to calm down, which I did. I eyed him back and sneaked a 'thank you' to him as everyone made their way out of the arena.
