22. Late Night BBQ's.

Carter's POV:

My eyes widened in surprise. "REALLY?"

They both smiled and nodded. "We would come with you, but we can't leave our jobs yet. It's important business for us to stay here for a while. But we will be calling you from time to time." Dad mentioned. I stood up, smiling uncontrollably.

"GOT IT. OF COURSE. When am I leaving?"

"Two days. So, you better start packing." Dad pointed towards the hallway, letting me go. I kissed them both on the cheek and squealed in excitement. I was actually being allow to go halfway across the US without any supervision. I ran upstairs to my room and grabbed my blue suitcase out of my closet.

I had to pack a summer's worth of clothes. So I threw in my shorts, sweaters, shirts, bathing suits, makeup, some summer dresses, and undergarments. Just us I started to pack more things, my phone started to ring.

"Hello?" I said, a little too excitedly.

"Word on the street is you're coming to LA in two days with us!" Niall cheered. With us? I just realized they were leaving to go to LA in two days too.

"Oh my gosh, I know! I'm so happy!" I jumped in excitement. "It's such a coincidence!"

"Not exactly. Just thank us." Niall smiled.

"What do you mean?" I raised my eyebrows.

"We set it up with you so you can come to LA with us!" Zayn suddenly said on the other line.

"REALLY?" I gasped.

"Yep. It was all Harry's idea." Louis told me. Harry? Aw, how sweet.

"Aw, is Harry on the line? I wanna thank him." I asked, dropping my clothes on my bed.

"Funny you should say. You should look at your balcony now." Liam smirked. I was confused. My balcony? I turned around and saw Harry making his way up the balcony from the tree beside it. I laughed and opened the door for him.

"Harry?" I gasped.

He fell when he tried to land on his feet. I laughed again, helping him up. He groaned, "Hi Carter."

"Oh my.. what are you doing here?" I helped him inside, letting him sit on my bed.

"Came to surprise you! I bought pizza!" He pulled a rope on the tree and a pizza box on top of  picnic basket came up. "Supreme. Just the way I remembered."

"AWWW! NO FAIR." I heard Niall yell from the line. I forgot he was even on the line.

"Bye Niall!" I giggled, hanging up. I looked back at Harry. "So, I heard you set this up for me. Me going to LA, Mr. Cowell." I winked.

He shrugged, smiling. "Maybe."

"Thank you." I said. We walked back inside my room and sat on the floor. We set it up just like an indoor picnic. Before I forget, I locked the bedroom door to prevent my parents from coming in, catching us.

"Oh, and I brought cookies." He took out a plastic bag, smirking. "Chocolate chip, of course." I chuckled. He opened the pizza box, revealing the supreme pizza I've been craving for quite a while now. The smell was mouth-watering.

"Mmm..." I moaned, inhaling the smell of the delicious pizza lying right in front of us. "Let's eat!"

After our small picnic filled with pizza, drinks, and cookies, Harry and I decided to lie down on my bedroom balcony and look up at the stars. We were extremely full, and we needed something to occupy our lazy butts from standing up. I rested my head on Harry's arm, watching the twinkling stars above us.

"I'm so full." I rubbed my stomach. "Ugh, why'd you order a large?"

"Well, excuse me.. From what I remembered, you always wanted me to order a large." He defended, chuckling.

I raised my eyebrows, "Really? I don't remember."

Before Harry could answer, my mom knocked on the door. "Carter, honey. Dinner's ready."

I sat up, starting to panic a little bit. It was too late for Harry to leave, so I gestured him to go to the bathroom and hide. "Uh, hang on.." I called. I shut the door for Harry as he ran in the bathroom, and went back to my door, opening it. "Hey mom.. Uh, I'm not really hungry right now."

"Are you sure? Your father and I were hoping you could join us for a BBQ dinner under the stars in the backyard." Mom offered. Shoot, that's where the balcony is. "I invited Derek over too."

"Cancel it. I'm not hungry." I said, almost getting angry. Probably getting really angry.

"Carter, your father, Derek, and I want to spend as much time with you before you leave. Can't you just eat something before you continue to pack?" I knew my mom wouldn't give up on asking me to join them.

"Fine." I said, feeling defeated. "I'll meet you downstairs, let me just freshen up."

"Don't be silly, you look fine." She smiled, gesturing me to follow her.

"That's okay, just let me use the bathroom for a second. I'll meet you there."

"O-okay then.." She trailed off, walking away. I shut the door again, locking my door.

I knocked on my bathroom door. "Are you doing something or can I come in?"

He swung open the door and got out, embracing me in for a hug. "Gosh Harry, what's up with you?"

"I don't know, I thought you left me to go BBQ." He looked out the door to my balcony. "Now how am I suppose to get out?"

"Don't. Can you stay for the night? I really don't want Derek to be here with me. I have a feeling he might spend the night." I shoved my hands in my back pocket, sighing.

He kissed my forehead. "Of course."

I scurried downstairs, hopefully to not be bumped into Derek. Boy, I was wrong. Why don't I ever watch where I go? I looked up at his menacing smile as he walked through the front door. "Well, hello Carter."

"H-Hi." I walked quickly away from him, going to the backyard safely away from him. I stood by my dad for most of the time, watching his eyes almost burn me, making me completely nervous.

"Are you alright, Carter? You're almost sweating as much as me." Dad asked. "Why don't you help your mother with the place settings?"

I nodded nervously as I walked toward my mom. I glanced back at Derek, who was still staring at me. "Carter? Go hang out with Derek. I don't really need help right now."

"I-I'm good." I stammered. "I'll just go grab the plates in the kitchen." I rushed away towards the kitchen, doing exactly what I told myself; avoiding Derek at all cost.

"Hi." My breath hitched when Derek greeted me. I jumped in fright, backing away from him.

"G-Go away, Derek. M-My parents are here." I snapped. I held the paper plates in my hands tightly, reaching the end of my trail as I backed away. The counter stopped me from backing away, and I held the plates for a small shield. He came closer, his breath hitting against my ear. "I'm not gonna hurt you."

I ran upstairs. "Leave me alone, Derek." I swung open my bedroom door, almost succeeding to close it. But his foot stopped the door from closing. I tried to push harder, but he was too strong.

"You never learn, do you?" He clicked his tongue as I backed away towards my bed. I fell on my bed backwards, quickly sitting up.

"L-Learn what?"

"To love me." He paused, "You do love me, don't you?"

"NO." I told him angrily. That apparently stop him. He pinned me against the wall, grabbed both my wrist, and crashed his lips onto mine.

"STOP!" Harry's voice rang angrily as he came out of the bathroom. Derek pulled away and let go of me as I landed on the floor in pain on my wrists.

"Who are you?" Derek came close to Harry, their faces getting real close to each other.

I quickly ran up to them, stopping both of them from fighting. I couldn't risk my parents seeing Harry or a fight here. "Harry, please don't."

"OH. So, this is Harry!" Derek chuckled. "That guy who you dated when you were 14?" He paused. "Wow, it's finally nice to meet you." I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm.

"Well it's not a pleasure to meet you after what you did to Carter." Harry snarled angrily, yet quietly. I tried pushing him back, but failed. Before I knew it, they were giving each other mad glances, almost ready to take a punch. I couldn't let that happen.

"So, 'Harry', what are you gonna do? Punch me?" Derek threw his hands up in the arm, ready for a fight.

"No, stop!" I tried to reason, but Derek cut me off.

"Come on babe. Don't you want to see who wins?"

"Don't call her 'babe'." Harry grumbled.

"Oh yeah? What are you gonna do about that then?" He challenged. Before Harry threw the punch, Derek dodged it, accidentally punching me in the face.
