"Sometimes I have the luck that every girl wants, but not the life..."

14. Forcing Dates.

Carter's POV:

The next morning, my mom and dad were finally home from their long days of work to relax. Apparently, since they both worked really hard; they had a few days off. That meant no freedom for me. "Mom, you have got to stop setting me up with Derek. He's a total jerk." I seethed, making my way towards the kitchen counter. My mom was trying to set up another date for me and Derek. I refused a thousand times, but they never listen.

"Sweetie, that isn't the proper way of complimenting people. Derek is a lovely guy." She told me politely. This wasn't the 1970's. I hated Derek. He wasn't 'lovely' (what my mom calls him) nor 'polite'. (what my dad calls him). He's a self-absorbed, desperate jerk who doesn't even care how I feel about him. He doesn't even know he was set up with me. He just knows that we were met by our parents. Did I mention clueless too?

"Carter, Derek is a really good guy for you. He's smart..." Yeah, not really. "He's got a driver's license..." Yeah, but he drives so slow... "and... he volunteers at the hospital to help sick patients." How did he get that job?

I took a bite out of my apple. "But dad, you should see him whenever we go out for dinner. He plays with his food! Are you even sure he's 18?!" I don't mean to be rude, but that was the truth.

He plays with his food like a 3 year old, he throws food to other customers, and he makes me feel insecure and embarrassed that I'm dating him. I don't even like the sound of that.

Carter and Derek dating... Carter and Derek dating... Nope. Don't like the sound of that.

"I don't believe any of that nonsense, honey. Derek has all the charms you were looking for when you dated that Harry boy." My mom mentioned. Oh, no. Not again with that lecture. I threw my hands up in the air in annoyance. Do they ever find a new topic to think of than that?!

"Mom! It's been four years! When are you going to let that go?!" I turned to my dad, hoping that he would defend me. "Dad!" But he didn't.

"Listen to your mother, sweetheart. She just wants what's best for you." My dad took off his glasses. Trust me, whenever he did that, he was dead serious.

"Now, go get ready." My mom suddenly said. My eyes widened when I replayed what she said in my head. Please tell me she didn't. "You have a date with Derek in one hour. He's coming to pick you up for another date."

"Mom, dad. I beg of you to stop controlling my life." I clasped my hands together. "I can control my own life! I'm 18!"

"You said that when you were 14 but you went running off to date some 18 year old boy." Here we go again.. "Now hurry up. Derek will be here in 50 minutes." She waved me off with her spoon.

I mumbled a few mean words as I made my way up the steps and into my room. I slammed the door behind me and felt my phone buzz in my pocket. I slid down against the door and hugged my knees, ignoring the buzz. But it buzzed again. This time, even longer.

I picked it up and saw an unknown caller. I picked it up angrily.

"Hello!?" I snapped.

"Whoa, Carter. I didn't mean to make you angry." Niall laughed. I loosened up from my anger and just let out a smile for him.

"Sorry, Ni. I'm just-" I ran my fingers through my hair. "Family issues."

"Ah." He spoke. "Are you alright, babe?"

"I'm fine, Niall. Just a little stressed." I rubbed my eye. "So why'd you call?"

"I was wondering if you would like to hang out. With all of us. We're free tonight, and well he had an amazing time last night." He asked politely. I suddenly felt bad that I had to go on the stupid date my parents forced upon me to go to.

I sighed heavily. "Ah.. I'm so sorry, Nialler. I can't go. My parents are home for a few days off work, and I won't be able to go out except for work and school."

I heard him sigh. "That's too bad, Carter. We're almost leaving for our next stop for some concerts in LA."

"Is this your way of telling me to sneak out on those days I go to school and work?" I implied, chuckling slightly.

He was silent, but I could almost see the smirk on his face as he was talking. "No-yes."

"Do you remember what happened that last time I snuck out behind my parents' backs? I had to move to another place!" I frowned at him.

"But Carty-" He whined.

"Carty?" I raised my eyebrows.

"Yeah, my new nickname." He chuckled.

"Alright..." I said weirdly. "Go on."

"Right... but Carter! You have to come hang out with us tonight. We're so bored." I heard the phone move around, and a few muttered voice on Niall's line. "Let me talk to her.." I heard in a mere whisper.

"Hey Carter!" It was Eleanor.

"Hey El. Are you trying to persuade me to come there too?"

"If you want.. I mean, I know you have your 'date' and all.." She whispered at the word, 'date'.

My eyes widened as I sat up straight from the door. "How did you know about that?"

"You told me yesterday before we were rudely interrupted by the guys." Oh right... "It was a lucky guess.." She paused. "It's okay. I didn't tell anyone. But that's awful, Carter. Why would your parents arrange a forced relationship?"

"After what had happened with me and Harry, they're afraid I might go running off to an older guy that's 10 years older than me." I sighed, running my fingers through my hair.

"But that's so sad. Relationships are about being with the people you want to be with. Not because you were forced to." She said oh-so romantically.

"Tell that to my parents." I grumbled. "Anyways, I have a dinner date in less than an hour.. so I can't make it. Plus, my parents have some days off, and I won't be able to hang out or go out except for school and work."

"Maybe we could meet you at work then?" She kindly suggested.

"Wouldn't you be afraid? The fans? Plus, my friend, Bella.. She's a huge One Direction fan." I warned her. "She loves you, especially."

"Aw, that's sweet. I wouldn't mind one big fan." She paused as I started to think about it. "So we'll see you at work tomorrow, yeah?"

"Um.. sure. I'll text you the address."

Louis' POV:

When I overheard Eleanor talking to Carter about a forced relationship, I was confused. Was Carter in a forced relationship? Or was Eleanor? She turned around, finding me peeking in our room and she gasped.

"Louis Tomlinson! We're you listening to my conversation with Carter?" I pulled her arm and shut the door behind us.

"I did, Eleanor. I'm not very happy with it either." I confronted. She looked confused. "What's this about a forced relationship? A-Are we in one?"

She started to laugh hysterically. "Oh my gosh, Lou. You're hilarious." She covered her face from her laugh and continued. "Lou, I love you, okay? We're not in a forced relationship.."

"Then...Carter is?" I stated, making her nod. "What? Why?"

She stepped back, "I'm really not suppose to tell you this."

I stopped her, grabbing her wrist before she tried to walk away. "Please tell me.."

She looked away, sighing. "Her parents made her. She's been set up with another guy from her parents. She has a date with him tonight, so that's why she can't hang out with us." She explained. I looked down, feeling guilty and pity for Carter. No girl should ever be in a forced relationship OR an arranged marriage.

"That's horrible." I sat on the bed, looking down at the ground. She sat beside me, rubbing my back. "She's like my best friend, El. She's living a sad life. She doesn't deserve this."

"I wish there's something we could do, Lou. But we can't control her parents.." She whispered.

"Did she say where her date was?" I asked.

"She just said a dinner date." She replied bluntly. "She's leaving in less than an hour." I felt as if a light bulb went off in my head, getting an idea.

"Let's go follow her." I suddenly said.

Eleanor gave me an odd look as if I was crazy. "What? No! Louis, why?"

I shrugged my shoulders. "I'm curious to see what Carter is like with this guy. I mean, she may say that she has a forced relationship, but that doesn't mean she doesn't like him, right? Look, if I see that the guy is nice and sweet to her, I'll leave it alone that Carter is somewhat happy. But if I see something that Carter isn't fond of, I can try and do something about it."

"Louis, that's crazy. What are you going to do if you don't like him?" Eleanor questioned.

"Trust me. I know exactly what to do." I winked. "Are you in or not?"

It took her a while to think about it, seeing her face roaming around the room. But when I heard her mumble a yes with a nod, I knew that the plan was set.

I've been having writer's block for a while, and this is all that I got. :/ I hope you like it! :3
