Will You Hear My Heart?

Like music, I can sad and beautiful. Like rain, my love comes slowly, then all at once. But if my heart beats loudly and you don't hear it, then does it exist? coypright (C)

4. That's Nice to Know

Dawn's P.O.V.

"Hey. Why are you here?" I said after opening the front door.

"I needed to talk to you. Do you think you can let me in?" asked Hoya. Letting him inside, mom welcomed him in and the both of us went up to my room.

"So, what is it you wanted to talk about?" I said.

"Guess," he said. "Fine, don't say anything. How could you just leave after the play on Friday? Do you know what day it is today? Sunday. I've been texting you and calling you but you're not answering me."

"I just don't know what happened and I don't know what to do. I don't want to talk about it," I confessed. Holding me with both hands on my arms, he looked straight into my eyes.

"Look, this is going to sound cheesy, but I'm your friend. If you have anything that's troubling you, talk to me about it. Can you stop making me worry about you?" Hoya asked.

"I'm not a baby," I replied crossing my arms in front of my chest.

"I never said you were one." A smile lit up on his face. "You know what? I'm going to take you to see them today. Maybe that should clear up what happened between the three of you. I was going to see them after I came over here but I guess we can go together!" he said cheerfully.

"What? Hey what happened with the whole 'I'm you best friend and if there's something bothering you, you can talk to me' speech?" I said. "Can't I talk to them at school instead?"

"No, we're leaving now," he said, grabbing my bag and shoes, and dragged me out of the house.

"Just calm down, Dawn," said Hoya holding the café door open for me. I thought I'd face them sooner or later. Smiling, I went inside. At the far end of the room were the other six members of Infinite. How was I friends with one of them? To my surprise, Seth and Mason were sitting beside one another. Making our way towards their table, I walked behind Hoya.

"Hey, Hoya. Why are you late?" said the one named Sterling Giles.

"I had a little business to attend to," replied Hoya. He stepped aside, revealing me to the rest of the group.

"Why is she here?" said Mason coldly. Ouch, that hurt.

"Hi, I'm Dawn Livic. Um, I'm Hoya's friend. I just had some questions to ask L and Seth," I said nervously.

"Dude, why is she so awkward?" whispered David Follman to Hoya.

"She's not usually like this," he replied taking a seat beside him. Trying to cool down, I took a deep breath and continued.

"L, Seth, can you please tell me what happened during the play? Do you know how confused I am?" I said almost yelling.

"That's how she's usually like," whispered Hoya back to David. "Dawn, why don't you sit down?" I took the seat he offered beside him.

"Do you want to know?" said Mason. I nodded my head. "I did what I did that time because I thought it would make the play more interesting. Make the play seem a bit more real. But, it was all for the play."

"So, you never meant anything so said that night?" I said. My hands curling into fists.

"No, I didn't," he replied cooly. I knew that would he his answer. I guess I had to hear it from him. Why would I think he meant any of it? "Why, did you want it to be real?" he said smiling, raising his eyebrows. God, how good it must feel to punch him right about now.

Confused, embarrassed and a bit hurt, all the questions I was going to ask slipped my mind. "Thanks for listening to me. I'm so sorry for disturbing you guys," I said smiling. Hopefully it would hide my embarrassment. Getting up from my seat, I almost ran for the door.

"Yah, what's wrong with you?" I heard William Winters say to one of the other members named Lance Rockwell. I dared myself to look back and saw him punch Mason on the arm. I don't know if it hurt him. I hope it does.

Finally outside of the café, I leaned against the brick wall. I felt my eyes burning. I guess the tears were going to form now. But I wouldn't let that happen.

"Um, are you ok?" Turning to my left, I saw that Seth was standing beside me. Clearing my throat and fixing my skirt, I stood up from the wall.

"Um, yeah. Sorry about what happened back there," I said softly. Then I remembered what I wanted to say. "If you don't mind me asking, why did you act that way?"

"Haha, about that..." he said running his hands through his hair. Was he nervous? "Yeah, about that, I guess I got caught up in the role of the prince."

"Oh, I see," I said nodding. Why was nodding all I could do in awkward situations?

"Actually, that's not true. I guess I should just tell you the truth. Gosh, How do I say this? Um, Dawn, I think I like you. I mean, while doing the play together, I think we've gotten a bit closer." I'm reminded of the small gestures we'e done to each other. Small greatings, waves in the halls, smiles across the cafeteria. But that was all.

"So, you like me," I said slowly, taking it all in. Was that why Mason said not to get to close to him? Because I might like him back? I could feel my face getting hot.

"Uh, yeah. But don't worry. You don't have to worry about anything.  I was just wondering if, um, we could be friends?" he asked, his face slowly becoming red.

"Friends?" I said. I was already friends with Hoya. If I'm friends with Seth, then maybe I'll be friends with the other members of Infinite? Then maybe I can get close to Mason again. What am I thinking? I'm taking things too lightly right now. But then again, maybe we can actually be good friends? "Yeah, sure," I replied. I think I said that too awkwardly.

"Great! Um, I'm just going to go back inside. The guys are waiting for me," he said. "I'll see you at school?" I nodded. Even after he left, it seemed as though I stood there for ages. What in the world happened? Remembering I left my bag inside café, I turned around just in time to bump into the next person to walk out the door.

"Oh, I'm so sorry about that," said the guy holding his cappuccino. "I didn't see you there." I looked down at my skirt and saw it drenched with his drink. How smart am I to wear a skirt in the middle of November? It's all thanks to Hoya who dragged me out of the house without changing into proper clothes.

"No, it's okay," I said through clenched teeth. Slowly, snowflakes fell down. I looked up and saw a teenage boy with blonde and light pink hair standing in front of me. What was up with this guy? "You didn't do it to me on purpose, did you?" I said raising my eyebrows.

"No! I swear to God I didn't!" he said raising his hands up looking scared. I bit my bottom lip to stop myself from laughing. To think this guy was scary. He took his lavender sweater off and handed it too me.

"What do you want me to do with this?"

"Cover yourself with it," he said shyly. Thanking him, I took it and wrapped it around my waist with the sleeves.

"Can I trust you?" I blurted out. I was desperate. I didn't want to see the guys again. The guy seemed decent enough.

"Um, why?" he guy said confused.

"I left my bag inside the café, but I don't want to go inside because of...well something happened. You're not going to steal it, are you?" I asked.

"There's no other way to leave the store other than this front door. If I did steal it, doesn't mean I would though, how am I supposed to get passed you without you noticing?" he said.

"True enough. Okay, if you go to the back of the café, you'll see seven guys sitting together. There will be one empty seat with them. My bag is there. If they ask you who you are...I don't know, make something up?" I said.

"Fine, buy you owe me," he said smiilng.

"If I'm not mistaken, you, whatever you're name is, are doing this to owe me for spilling your drink on me," I said. He nodded in agreement.

"But, I have a name you know. L.Joe," he said, sticking his hand out. What kind of name was that?

"Dawn," I said shaking his hand.

"Ok, here I go," he said before entering inside the store. Waiting outside, it seemed like forever. Looking through the window, I saw him standing in front of Infinite. When he pointed at me, I waved at him. Finally, he came out, my bag in his hand.

"What took you so long?" I asked as he handed me my bag.

"What are you talking about?" he said, looking at his watch. "It's only been three minutes."

"Whatever. Hey, what did the guys say when they saw you?"

"Well, they definitely asked who I was, so I said that I was your boyfriend. It was the first thing I could think of. They didn't believe it and one of them said they've never seen me with you before. When I pointed to you and you waved back, I don't know but I guess they thought you really knew me. Then I took your bag with me and left," said L.Joe.

"What? You said you said you were my boyfriend?" I almost yelled. "Gosh, how am I supposed to explain myself? Whatever, I'll talk to them tomorrow at school and clear this whole thing up. Do you know where the closest bus stop is?"

"No, I just moved here," he said. Great, Hoya was the one who dragged me here at a place I've never been to before. Now how am I supposed to get home? I guess I'll just walk around the place.

"Well, thanks for everything that you've done," I said. "See you around."

"Wait, you're leaving? Like that? Do you know how vulnerable you look?" said L.Joe. I looked down and knew he was right. "I think I should keep you company. Or maybe even take you home. If you take my sweater home, at least I'll know where to find it."

"Fine, But you're paying the bus fare," I said already making my way down the street.

"Then you'll have to owe me again," said L.Joe smiling.
