34. The Sun Stepped In

Sophie’s POV

Honestly, things have gone really weird since the dinner thing. Harry seemed kinder since then. But some things never change. He is still popular.

It’s been nearly two months, since the night we kissed. I was glad that Harry and I were finally going somewhere.

Although, I can’t help but wonder where Harry and I’s relationship is ever going to go.

Okay. So we decided to date a little more after that night, but honestly, I find it weird. He’s still dating Lia, and he’s dating me. So practically he’s cheating on Lia, and on me, except I know that he is. Confusing.

Let’s just say. Harry is dating a popular cheerleader, and he’s dating a normal nerd-ish girl. Harry has told me that he loved me, but I knew that in the end, this relationship is going to end. In the end, he is obviously going to choose the girl who has a better body, a girl who can understand him and a girl who has everything. And well, I am nothing. So, I know that he is still going to choose Lia. I’m just being pathetic to even think there is going to be something called ‘love’ between us. Maybe, I am falling for him, but I know he will never feel the same.

I sighed and slumped back in my chair. I know that this is really going to take me nowhere.

“Hey,” Harry said, taking the seat beside me and slightly kissing me in the cheek.

“Hi,” I responded. I sat properly in my chair and I watched him as he looked at me. “Okay… so what’s with the secret?” I asked. “I know you want to tell me something."

“I’m auditioning for X-Factor!” he announced. My eyes grew wide at his announcement and I felt happy for him.

“Oh my god! That’s great news!” I said, wrapping my arms around his neck. I pulled away from him and saw that he was really happy. I mean, who wouldn’t be?

“I’m so scared, Soph.” he admitted.

“Hey chill,” I said, putting my hand on is arm. “You’ll do fine. The judges will absolutely love you."

“Thanks,” he said.

“So when is it?"

“When is what?"

“The auditions."

“Next month."

Next month?! Seriously?

“Oh I see,” I said, removing my hand from his arm. “Good luck."

“Can’t you come?” he asked. Yup! I knew this question was coming.

I shook my head, and turned to look at him. “I really wish I could be there Harry, but I can’t. I promised to help my friends out with the yearbooks which are due next month. But I promise, I’ll watch you perform all throughout X-Factor."

“What plans do you have?” he asked. He was obviously sad. There was pain in his voice, he was hurt. Usually, I would have been happy, but not now.

“My cousins from Italy are coming over,” I explained to him. “But hey don’t worry, just know that I’ll be there for you until the end."

“Promise?” he asked looking at me.

“I promise.” I said firmly. He bent down towards me and kissed me. Our lips moved in sync but we both quickly pulled away when we heard footsteps approaching.

“So,” I said quickly opening a book to whatever page. “Do you understand the lesson?”

“Yeah,” Harry said, scratching his neck as if he was so unsure. I turned to see who the person who just entered was and saw some of the popular group members.

I sighed. “Keeping this relationship is quite hard."

“Hey,” Harry said. “We can do it."

“I know, we can.” I said, shutting the book hopelessly. “It’s just that, I don’t think we can do it when you become famous."

“What?” he asked, obviously taken back.

“C’mon Harry,” I said. “You’re going to be famous someday, and, well, you’re going to be really busy."

“So, I guess we might at least savour our relationship while it still exists,” I said.

“I love you, you should know that,” he whispered to me.

“I love you too,” I said.

* * *

Okay, so we did savour our relationship. We had little days left, but at least we had memories.

Harry took me to different places, we went sightseeing together and it was really romantic. He was being to kind to me, and finally he broke up with Lia. Lia was outrageous with it all, but Harry didn’t seem to care.

Our relationship was easier when he broke up with that cheerleader, since we no longer had to hide it. I met his whole family, and he met mine too. I was glad that my parents liked him. But he never met Lizzy though, since she was still a secret. There are some secrets that are meant to be kept forever.

But anyways.. the sun went down and reality stepped in. It wasn’t a fairytale as we all thought.

The time finally came for Harry to leave for X-Factor.

"Good luck," I said, looking down at Harry's luggages. I was feeling really sad right now, it was like a piece of me was leaving.

"Hey," he said, cupping my hand between his face. He moved my head so that it would face his face. On normal days, I would have yelled at him in annoyance but now it was different. "I'm coming back. I promise."

"I know," I said, trying to sound happy. I need to stay strong.

"I love you," he said.

"I love you too," I said as he kissed me one last time. Maybe for the final time

This might be the last time. Might as well savour everything.

We both pulled away when we heard the honk of a car. "Bye." he said, looking at me. We kept our gaze and then broke it.

"Bye Harry." I said in a whisper as I watched him enter the car. The car's door shut behind him, and I watched the car leave and drive towards its destination.

When the car was gone and out of sight, I said the words that I wanted to say. But I said it in a soft voice that it barely seemed audible.

"I'm going to miss you, Harry."
