22. Mistaken Identity (1)

Sophie’s POV

I spent the rest of the day with Lizzy. We talked and teased each other. she told me a story about one of her missions in France and in russia and man it was so crazy! I told her about my life, and she asked me how was life after quitting my spy life. Yeah, I didn’t like talking about my spy life cause it was terrible. It was like committing suicide to be a spy. It was dangerous and my life was always on the brink of death. I admired Lizzy. She was always so strong and she always got her job finished well.

“So,” I looked up to Lizzy who was talking to me. “Do you have a boyfriend now?"

“NO!” I screeched. I don’t know why I screamed at her, but I guess it’s cause I never liked the topic of boyfriends. She laughed at my answer and then sipped her coffee.

“I do,” my mouth dropped. She has one? What the hell, I don’t even have on?

“Really?” I asked with a little surprise.

“You remember Derek, right from the-"

“Spy organisation, I know,” I cut her off. She always wanted to date someone who was fit, alert, smart and good looking, and I guess Derek had it all. He wasn’t my type, cause honestly, I don’t even know what my type is. “I’m happy for you."

“Thanks,” she said. I smiled at her and then she got her phone out. “Here’s my number," she handed me a paper and then checked her phone. I’m pretty sure there was a text since she was reading.

“Who is it?” I asked.

“Derek, he wants me to meet up with him now for our future spy company,” she replied proudly. I was happy for her, but seriously I just wished we could spend more time. “Don’t worry, dear, I’ll be home tonight.” She got up from her chair and hugged me. We said goodbyes, and then she left. So basically, I was alone for now.

Lizzy’s POV

I was walking in the street with a big smile on my face. I was so happy that I was finally free, and that I was back with my sister and family. My parents knew I was alive, but my sisters didn’t. I guess I am so excited what my life will be from now on. I’m not going to school, that’s for sure, since I was already highly educated. All my years of being a spy, I never felt so happy. I was happy whenever I did a job well, but I guess there’s nothing like family happiness. I kept my eyes on the road ahead of me, and finally I spotted the cafe that I had agreed to meet up with Derek and Ava. Ava was my best friend, she was always there for me, and she was the one who gave me my inspirations.

I entered the cafe and quickly spotted them. Ava waved to me and I simply waved back. I went to them, and sat down in the empty seat.

“Hey Liz,” Derek said while kissing my hand. It was like that when you’re a spy, kiss the hand and not the cheek. Ava hugged me and she was really energetic that day.

“So, what did Sophie say?” Ava said while jumping up and down in her seat. Derek was laughing at the way she was acting and I couldn’t help but smile.

“She’s happy,” I replied.

“I haven’t seen her in ages!” Ava said. “Do you guys still look the same?"

“She’s my doppelgänger,” I joked. They laughed and we talked more and more. I lost count of how many drinks Ava drank and ordered.

“Oh my god!” I turned around to see a blonde cheerleader standing behind me with her hands on her hips. I had no idea who she was, so I ignored her and turned back to my friends. “Well, well, Isn’t Miss ‘I-skipped-school-today’ ignoring me?” I looked at her and realised she was no longer alone. There were other people with her, they seemed like football jocks. My eyes studied them, then my eyes fell on the curly haired guy, who I knew was Harry. It hit me, that they thought I was Sophie. I guess I now was the time to put my spy skills.

I knew the cheerleader was Lia, head of the cheerleading group, she was a big mean girl. I looked over to Ava and Derek and gave them a hint to just play along. They understood and then continued drinking their drinks.

“Hello, Lia,” I said.

“Oh, so why did you plan to skip classes today, huh?” she smirked. I knew I had to be careful with my answer, since I knew she was going to use it against me.

“I suffered food poisoning, so that’s why I didn’t go to school today,” I lied. It was stupid. Seriously? Food poisoning?

“Oh I wonder what you ate?” she spat. I noticed Harry’s eyes open wide in disbelief and I realised why. Sophie had dinner in his house.

“Well, I ate spoiled food when I woke up,” I reasoned out and I saw Harry turned relieve.

“Ohh, sad for you,” Lia said while giving me a death glare. I ignored it and then turned back to look at Derek and Ava.

“Who are you with?” Lia questioned. I knew she was referring to Derek and Ava, but I mainly knew she was interested in Derek. She was eyeing him and I noticed Derek feel uncomfortable.

“He’s my-“ I began but Derek cut me off.

“Do you care?” he said meanly. Lia gave him a death glare, and then flipped her hair. She was such a typical cheerleader.

“Of course, I do,” she replied. Her answer shocked all of us, and we exchanged looks. “I am president of the school, therefore, it is my job to know everything."

“Such a busy body,” Ava muttered under her breath, and I thanked god that Lia didn’t hear.

“Anyways, he’s my, umm,” I stuttered, but in the end I got the word right. “Boyfriend.” I felt Derek’s hand squish my hand under the table.

“Boyfriend,” she smirked in unbelief.

“Yeah,” I said while nodding my head.

“I never know you had one,” she pointed out. “Who knew a nerd like you would ever get a boyfriend, as fit as him."

“Well, life is surprising,” I said in a dismissive tone. She rolled her eyes and then snapped her fingers and her little gang followed right behind her. When they left,I let out a sigh.

“Well, it seems like Sophie has a boyfriend now,” Ava joked. We laughed and I realised she was right. What have I done?
