12. All Cause Of A Ball

I woke up and my mind replayed to what had happened yesterday. I shook my head and tried to get rid of the thought. But I just couldn’t. Ugh!!!! I slammed my head with my pillow and realised that it was still 4 am.

I got up from my bed and decided to go to school early. I fixed myself, and decided not to wear makeup today.

After fixing myself, I headed to school. It was 7 am by the time I got there. I decided to sit down outside in the school field and wait until it was 8 am.

***

Ouch!

I looked to see what had hit me. It was a football ball. I grunted. It was one of the football jocks. They were laughing at me, and I really felt like throwing something back.

“If you don’t know nerd, it’s not good to stay out in the sun. It doesn’t help you get any thinner!” It was Lia, Harry’s cheerleader girlfriend. Her friends laughed at me, and as much as I wanted to ignore them I couldn’t. I got the oval ball beside me, and twisted it around my hands. I looked at them, and they were still laughing.

To my surprise, Harry wasn’t there with them.

“Mind giving it back to us nerd?” Lia yelled at me. “And please don’t wriggle your fats."

I shrugged my shoulders and threw it straight at her. To my surprise I sent her flying when it hit her. I sustained my laughter and walked away. I saw all of her friends look at her in surprise, and start comforting her.

I wrote down notes into my notebook. I couldn’t help but notice that the cheerleaders and football jocks in my class were looking at me in great dislike or whatever. I gripped my pen tighter, and forced myself to look at my notebook. When class ended, I ran to the cafeteria. I couldn’t look at anyone. As I passed by some people they called me stuffs like weirdo, nerd, geek, loner, loser and whatever those bad names were.

I sat down with my friends. And they welcomed me with a smile.

“Hey,” I said sitting down beside them.

“Did you actually hit Lia with a ball?” Beth asked me. I nodded my head and they laughed.
“No way!” they chorused.

“Yeah I did."

“Harry, is so gonna kill you when he finds out!” Cindy joked. But I knew it was possible.

“Since when did you get so strong?” Beth asked me.

“I don’t know, I guess I was born to hit her.” I said sarcastically.

“Nice one,” Beth said.

We continued eating, while ignoring all the mean faces I was getting. I hate the cheerleaders and the football jocks. To sum it all up, I hate the popular group. We talked about our subjects, and ate peacefully until someone decided to show up and break our peace.

“Hey can I talk to Sophie?” It was Harry, I knew it was him without even looking up. I was scared. What was he gonna do? Beat me up? Pull a prank on me?

“Umm, Soph.” Cindy stuttered while calling my name. It was so unusual to be called by the most popular guy in school. Beth kicked me from beneath the table so I decided to stand up.

I still didn’t look at him, I kept my head down. He lead me outside of the cafeteria and I noticed that he lead me to his locker. This time I looked up.

“So why did you bring me here?” I asked him. I saw him laugh and I wondered why.

“You hit my girlfriend with a ball?"

“Yup, I knew that would be the topic.” I said sarcastically.

“Did you?"

“Yeah, so what?” I said rudely. I wasn’t intending to be rude, but recently I was tired of hiding and pretending to not care. I couldn’t take it anymore. “Are you gonna hit me? Pull a prank on me? Well I don’t care, give me your best shot or whatever cause I do not care.” I half yelled at him.

“I just wanted to say, how?” I looked at him confused. How? Well duh, I threw the ball. How else am I suppose to hit her without throwing the ball?

“I threw it duh!” I replied in an ‘are-you’kidding’me?’ tone.

“I know you threw it, but was it in purpose or accidentally?"

“How am I suppose to know?” I yelled.

“You should know cause you threw it!"

“Well, fine I was aiming it at someone but it hit her.” I lied. I was actually aiming to hit her but I never expected the hit to be super strong.

“You can get expelled for that you know,” he said.

“Why do you care?” I told him. “It’s not like I myself care."

“Yeah, well cause you’re my tutor!”

“So what? It’s not liken they’re gonna expel me."

“How are you so sure?"

“Cause,” I stopped. I couldn’t tell anyone. I couldn’t. My family owned the school, but I never told anyone. I couldn’t tell anyone. “Forget it.” I sighed. I walked away and didn’t bother to look at him. I was supposed to keep a low profile but lately I just couldn’t hold my temper with almost everyone.
