1. Strange Occurrences

Prologue:

There was heavy breathing in the hot air that filled the room with despair. She sat there franticly and desperately knowing she was next to die. ''Do I have to think about my horrible death that awaits my fate in the end?'' Certain she was next after her friends had died in the mist of the realm they were stuck in. She didn't know of the horrible things that wait for her. Having the perfect opportunity on earth to live an honest and respectful life was too hypocritical to her ears. Oh but death is something like sleep, not for the eyes of your body, but the eyes of your soul to rest. What is so dreadful to us that we cannot bare? Is it the thought of death, or is it the very act of death....that very instant we are snatched from the earth that rips our fellow spirits into pieces.

Chapter 1: Strange Occurrences

Melody, Melody Jack is my name. I ran and ran until I couldn't run anymore. Then I hear a faint child's voice crying in a distance that made me curious. I wanted to see what lie before me. I walked around the corner where the light was dim, and even dimmer as I left the pathway. A little girl about five or six hid her face. She wore a dress that was so familiar to me. And she carried a doll that hangs by her side. I then coward in fear, as I felt a shadow enter my presence and hers; I didn't know what to expect from this thing. There was silence all of a sudden. Then the next thing I heard was a loud bang! It was a voice that wanted me to be very aware, yet afraid of its existence.

The voice yelled, '' FEAR ME INDEED, I AM THE DARK PAST THAT HAUNTS YOU SO LITTLE ONE. YOU DON'T RECOGNIZE EACH OTHER NOW BUT SOON YOU WILL, AND WHEN YOU DO YOU SHALL BE IN CEASE OF EXISTENCE! CRY NOT LITTLE ONES I WILL COME BACK FOR YOU IN DUE TIME....''

I ran to the girl as fast as I could, holding on to her. She then looked at me like as if what just happened before didn't happen at all. So we stared into each other's eyes as if nothing had just happened and it was time to introduce ourselves. I asked the little girl what was her name with a smile, and she replied DeDe.

Her parents use to call her DeDe.

I asked another question, ''Well where your parents are now, why are you in this dark place wandering around alone?''

She then said, '' I don't know, I was outside playing then all of a sudden I was here, with you. Hey isn't your name Mel?''

I looked at her totally blind to the fact about her parents; now I was curious about how did this little girl know my name. Now she can see that I am absolutely frightened by her words. Then she points at my bag that has my nickname on it. I wiped my forehead and smiled. So then I told her I would help her get home.

Looking around, I see the entrance from which I came. I told her to follow me. As we make it to the outside world that awaited for the both of us a loud clap of thunder sounded off. It started raining extremely hard, as the clouds got darker. The power was down I knew because there was no streetlights on at all. It was as dark as death, and I couldn't see anything. Neither of us had jackets so we decided to go back into the strange building.

I pondered my brain, around & around in circles I roamed. Who is this little girl? She seemed fragile but determined. Something bothered her deeply, but yet she kept an absolute smile on her face. I dug into my bag and grabbed some cookies, I gestured for DeDe to take some, but she shook her head no.

Then it hit me, “Hey, how old are you?’’

She looked at me and held up seven fingers.

“Wow DeDe, you must be in the what, 3rd grade now?’’

I could see she had other things on her mind, & I noticed a bruise on her arm. I didn’t say anything to her; I brushed it off, maybe she fell. I could see outside now. Maybe the storm had let up. I grabbed DeDe’s hand and told her to come on. The rain was no longer a threat to us, we were happy to get out of that creepy old building. As we walked down the street, DeDe told me she knew her way from that point on. I was kind of worried, & afraid to let her go on by herself. Then again, she assured me that she would be alright, & she thanked me and headed off. I stood there in the calm wind as we parted further away from each other into the unknown. I stood there calmly until I couldn’t see her shadow any longer. Before I could turn around to walk away, my cellphone vibrated.

[Beep…beep…zzzz…BEEP!]

I reached into my bag to get it, & the message I received was my boyfriend’s Sammy. He was inquiring where I’d gone, & he was looking for me. I walked to the nearest bus stop & waited. Head lights flickered ahead as I propped myself up. Leaning forward unto the heavy stop, I was relieved & happy. I was finally going home.
