Atonement

The sequel to the short story "Coming Home," some time has passed since the incident between Simon and the doctor which resulted in their deaths. If you haven't read the first story "Coming Home" I suggest reading it first to clear up any confusion about the beginning. The aim was to answer questions left in the short story; please comment, and enjoy.

1. Prologue

In the following days of the suicide of Dr. Murdoch, the Johnston Institute for Troubled Women and Children was in a state of chaos and dishevelment; people from the police department investigating the death of a blond boy who was found in a cemetery garnered an investigation of the entire institute and Dr. Murdoch’s study in particular. Luckily any incriminating evidence of the doctor’s secret projects had been covered up by the assistant director Ms. Trudy Tenmore a few days prior. Investigations aside the institute desperately needed a replacement for Dr. Murdoch’s studies and they found such a replacement in the name of Dr. Duquesne, a young psychologist from a nearby town. The events of the following months that would lead up to the destruction of the ‘Johnston Institute’ and the disappearance of Dr. Duquesne is a mystery to those only not privileged to this knowledge.
