Later that day, Perrie and I were walking home, enjoying the warm air. We were both silent, listening to the sound of the cars pass us.

“So…you speak fluent french?” Perrie asked me.

“I speak fluent anything…”

“What do you mean?” I shrugged and scuffed my sneakers on the ground while we waited for the crossing light to change for us.

“I’ve been running for so long that I’ve learned so many languages, sometimes I speak in different languages without realizing it.”

“I’m a different person.”

“You’re innocent. What you witnessed isn’t your fault.”

“It doesn’t matter. He’s looking for me and I need to keep running.”

“You know, you could go to the Witness Protection Program…” Perrie suggested as the light changed.

“Yeah, that’s a joke. I can take better care of myself than the fucking government can.” Perrie sighed and stayed quiet. “It doesn’t concern you, so why worry about it?”

“Because I care about you, Bethany. You can’t run forever. How many people have you found while you’ve been running, willing to take you in?”

“Just you…”

“See? I care…and I didn’t even know who you were. Now that I know you, I don’t want to lose the best friend I’ve ever had; not to some douche bag stalking you!”

“Then come with me…”

“Are you crazy?!” Perrie practically yelled.

“I can be.” Perrie groaned and rolled her eyes.

“I can’t just leave. I’m not like you.”

“No one ever will be either.” Perrie sighed again as we walked up the one flight of stairs to our flat. I knew I had upset Perrie, but…I could only stay another month or so before I was back on the road. “I need to leave. I have dance.” I mumbled.

“I’ll see you tonight.” Perrie said quietly. I went to my room and changed into my practice clothes. I shoved extra clothes in a bag and started walking to the rehearsal venue.

“BETHANY!” Juliet screamed as I ran in. She pushed through Zayn and Harry to get to me. I was in shock that they were there but I didn’t have time to process that because Juliet jumped into my arms.

“Hey Skippy; how are you?” I said, using her special nickname for her.

“I missed you. Zayn said you guys go to school together!”

“Yeah…we do.” I whispered, putting her down. She grabbed my hand and pulled me with her back to Zayn and Harry.

“LOOK WHO I FOUND!” Juliet screamed happily.

“Hey Bethany.” Zayn whispered. I smiled at his shyness and then started to blush.

“Hey Zayn, Hey Harry.” Harry just nodded and started looking around. “Okay well…bye.” I pushed around them with Juliet trailing behind me as I took the stairs up to the stage.

“Bethany, you’re good at improvising, correct?”

“Yeah, why?” I asked as I dropped my bag to the ground.

“Bring Me to Life by Evanescence; that’s your next solo. Let’s see what you can do.” I nodded and slipped my shoes off, kicking them to the side. I saw Harry and Zayn take seats to watch but to be honest; it didn’t make me anymore nervous.

The music started playing and I felt it run through me. You know that feeling when you feel at peace with something…that’s me when I dance. I closed my eyes and started dancing, letting my body do all the thinking.

Watching her dance gave me butterflies. The way she moved with the music almost made me cry. I don’t know what it was but…it was perfect. I’ve never found anything a girl did perfect. I’m not a relationship kind of guy but…Bethany? Now…there’s something worth fighting for.

I glanced over at Zayn and realized he was watching her with that glazed eye look. I tensed up knowing that look. He liked her too. I couldn’t let him get to her. I don’t know why I suddenly felt jealous since Bethany would barely talk to me but I wanted it to be me to finally give it all up…I would give it all up for her. I don’t give anything up for anyone…but I would for that girl dancing in front of me.

Watching her brought tears to my eyes, and a couple actually slipped down my cheek. It was beautiful…perfect even. She knew what she was doing and it was perfect. When I glanced over at Harry, I noticed he had that slightly hungry look in his eyes. This made me tense up, knowing I had competition, though, I wasn’t overly concerned. He would break her heart than come running to me; perfect plan, right?

When I finished dancing, everyone in the room clapped. I curtsied and went to my bag for a bottle of water. I downed half of it and went to the back to wash the sweat off my face before I actually went over what I was going to do for the actual show. I wanted this one to be special because after this show…I was leaving.
