Waking up to the sound of an airline announcement that we were about to land in America almost made me cry. It was so nice compared to waking up to abuse. I sighed and looked out the window as we started descending.

“Are you excited?” Perrie whispered to me. I looked over at her and smiled weakly.

“I am…”

“And we actually have a safe place to stay and live…”

“With who, again?”

“My aunt, uncle, and cousins; and possibly my grandparents…I’m not totally sure about them.” I smiled weakly again and turned back to the window.

“Thank you so much Perrie…”

“How many people have you met that would do this for you?”

“None…” I whispered after a long pause. Perrie grabbed my hand and squeezed it, making me actually smile. I was finally happy.

After they made the announcement that we had officially landed, the boys and I grabbed the little we were able to bring and started walking off the plane. Harry had a tight grip on my hand while Perrie and Zayn walked in front of us. They were close, just not too close.

“Do you feel safe here?” Harry asked me as we walked through the airport.

“Somewhat.”

“Why not fully?”

“G always finds me…always.” I whispered, looking away from Harry.

“We’re going to be okay here; I promise.”

“Don’t make promises you can’t keep.”

“I’m going to keep you safe then; how about I promise that?”

“You still really can’t keep that promise…”

“I can promise to try.”

“If you want…”

“I do.” Harry leaned over and kissed my head. I leaned into his body, wanting more of his touch.

“Come on you two; hurry up! My Aunt Shelly should be here by now!” Harry and I both nodded before picking up our pace to keep up with Perrie and Zayn.

When we got to the car, Perrie’s aunt greeted us happily, like having four teenagers, three of which were strangers, staying in her house. I couldn’t complain though; it kept me safe for a time.

“So who in all are all of you?” Shelly asked us.

“Bethany…”

“Zayn…”

“Harry…”

“Well nice to meet you kids; you can call me Shelly.” We all nodded and glanced awkwardly at each other. “So are all of you from England?”

“Yeah.” Zayn and Harry said together, making Shelly turn to me.

“I move around every few months or so…” I whispered.

“Why’s that?”

“It’s…a long story and I really don’t feel like going that into it right now. I’m too tired.”

“That’s alright dear. Let’s get you back to the house so you can sleep.”

“Thank you.”

“No problem sweet heart.” I glanced at Harry and rested my head on his shoulder. I started to doze off for a bit since this drive seemingly took forever.

“Bethany…we’re here.” Harry whispered into my ear, shaking me a little. I groaned and sat up. Sure enough, we were pulling up a driveway.

“Where are we?” I asked slowly.

“Chicago…” Shelly said happily. I nodded and looked back out the window as we stopped at a house. I was guessing we didn’t live exactly in Chicago; it just made more sense to say it since you could basically see the Chicago skyline from the house we were at. “Welcome to your new house! The cousins are crazy in there so I hope you don’t mind!”

“Of course not…” Zayn said, breaking the silence. Shelly grabbed some bags as an older looking man came out.

“UNCLE JOE!” Perrie screamed, jumping in his arms.

“Hey doll face!”

“I think that’s the uncle…” Harry said, making me giggle.

“Silly…” I whispered, nudging him.

“Are you all ready to come set up in your rooms? The boys will be sharing a room, and the girls will be sharing a room.”

“That sounds great.” Harry said, forcing a smile. I giggled again as we were led into the house; and what we got bombarded with was not what I expected.

There was about seven or eight kids running around, three or four were lounging on the couch, and another few sitting in the kitchen eating.

“Uhm…do they all live here?” I whispered to Perrie who nodded happily.

“They’re all my cousins!”

“How many are there?” Zayn asked slowly.

“Sixteen!”

“Oh…” Harry said, wide-eyed. I giggled again as we were lead through the halls. The boys had the last bedroom and Perrie and I were led up to the attic that was transformed into a bedroom just for us.

“I hope you don’t mind.” Joe said.

“Not at all; in fact, it’s very cute.”

“Thank you; we tried very hard to make it clean and livable.” Perrie and I both laughed as Joe left the attic.

“So…what do you think?”

“I think it’s nice.”

“Do you think you could stay here for awhile?” I shrugged and looked around.

“Maybe.”
