Rescue Me

Lia has lived in the slums of Rio, Brazil all her life and when Lia steals from a shop one night, two boys chase her and pin her to the ground. But what Lia doesn't realise is that this one Irish boy with kind blue eyes will be the one to show her new things and teach her about the world. Maybe even teach her about love.

47. New Years Eve

Niall's POV

It's New Year's Eve and I'm getting changed whilst Lia straightens her hair. I watch as she frowns at her appearance in the mirror that sits on the dressing table.
"Why are you frowning?" I ask, coming up behind her and placing my hands on her shoulders, leaning my chin on her head.
"My hair," she picks a piece up and drops it again.
"It's perfect," I tell her, kissing the top of her head lightly. She smiles then, her white teeth gleaming. We were all getting ready to go out to celebrate; Harry had hired a hall and there were going to be a lot of people there. Lia had been nervous all day and I could see the nerves in her beautiful face now.
"Don't look so scared." I whisper and kiss her head again before going over to the wardrobe and pulling a hoodie on.
"Ready?" I ask and she nods quickly, standing up. I take a picture of us together and she smiles as I kiss her cheek.
"Come on," I tell her, taking Lia's hand and leading her down the stairs. She looked stunning with a deep crimson skater skirt, a satin black top with diamond crosses over it, black heels and her straight hair flowing down her back. She had little make up on and that's how I preferred it. I didn't think girls needed to hide behind a mask of makeup to feel pretty; they just needed someone to tell them that they looked beautiful for them to feel confident. She walks infront of me down the stairs; careful not to trip in her shoes. I chuckle to myself as Harry argues with B about her outfit. He's telling her to change her shoes as she might fall and hurt herself.
"I'll be fine," she says with a dismissive flick of her wrists.
"I've been walking in stilettos since I was seven years old." She winks at Lia as we reach the bottom of the stairs.
"That's not the point, B." he argues, exasperated. Eventually, Lia and Harry convince her to wear Vans instead but she's still not 100% happy. The girl was a fashionista sometimes.
"Everyone ready?" Liam calls as we all assemble in the hallway. I nod ad take Lias hand, waving goodbye with her to Iva as we leave. My mum was looking after Jelly and Aaliyah tonight so we were able to stay late. We climb into he limo and we drive through the dark night until we reach the venues. Hundreds of people were gathered outside; signs, pictures and cameras in hand. We rush past, stopping for a few fans before entering the large hall.

Zayns POV

Everyone promptly heads off in different directions so I walk towards the bar. People were milling about, chatting excitedly about the New Year. I wasn't that excited really. I had nothing to look forward to apart from spending it with the boys. Seeing them all happy and loved up got a bit much for me sometimes and I missed when it was just us boys. Don't get me wrong, the girls were all lovely; so were the young ones. But sometimes when we were all watching a film or eating and they were all sitting together it made me feel a little bit... Forgotten.
"Penny for your thoughts?" A voice asks. I realise I've been sitting on the barstool staring off into space for the last five minutes, lost in thought.
"Daydreaming," I shrug, smiling, I look up and meet the eyes of a very pretty girl with dyed purple hair.
"I do that an awful lot. My teachers used to ring my parents constantly about it," she giggles at the memory as she taps her long nails on the bar.
"What can I get you?" She asks.
"I'll have a beer thanks," I reply, watching intently as her smooth fingers grab a glass and pull the tap. I almost forget to say thank you as I'm staring.
"Thank you."  I finally say, blushing and handing the money over. She smiles shyly and hands me back my change.
"Why aren't you out there with everyone?" She nods at the dance floor where masses of people are swaying and moving to the music.
"I'd rather stay here, thanks." I say, shaking my head. She raises an eyebrow at me, colour rising to her cheeks.
"Oh no! I didn't mean it like that, I-" I stutter, trying to regain my composure. She thought I was hitting on her.
"It's fine," she shakes her head and smiles impishly, her dimples coming to life.
Maybe I would.

Lias POV

I make my way around to everyone whilst Niall does an interview. I wasn't too keen on having cameras and microphones shoved into my face so I excused myself. I spot Zayn talking to a girl behind the bar so I leave him to it. Brooke and Harry were being interviewed too; they were planning to announce Brooke's pregnancy tonight. I see Liam talking to a few boys so I head over to Belle. She was like me; sitting to the side whilst the boys were being interviewed.
"Do you want a drink?" I ask her. Luckily, the music was still quite low as it was only half nine.
"No thanks," she smiles up at me. I take a seat beside her in one of the large booths that surround the hall.
"I applied for a job at a dance school, teaching classes three times a week." Belle tells me excitedly.
"That's great, Belle! Congrats," I smile and hug her.
"Thanks. I can't stand staying at home any longer. Especially with Brooke and her weird cravings. I think I'll leave Harry to deal with that," belle laughs and I chuckle, casting a glance over at them as tons of cameras swarm on them. Looks like they had announced the baby.
"Hey guys," Brooke jogs over to us, escaping the press.
"It's manic." She says out of breath, slumping down into the seat beside me. She tries to conceal herself and after a while, they fail to notice her. Most of them had gone by eleven; probably to write the headlines on the 'One Direction Baby' as fast as they could.
"Lia!" Niall calls, heading over to our table. The music was louder now and the lights had been dimmed. A huge flat screen television had been set up in the middle of the dance-floor so that everyone could watch Big Ben announce the New Year.
"Come on," he says, taking my hand. I wave to Belle and Brooke as he weaves me through the hall. He opens up the back doors and out into the cold night. He hands me his hoodie and I wrap it around my cold arms as we make our way across the large garden on the back of the hall.
"Oh my god," I whisper, looking up ahead.
