Rescue Me

Lia has lived in the slums of Rio, Brazil all her life and when Lia steals from a shop one night, two boys chase her and pin her to the ground. But what Lia doesn't realise is that this one Irish boy with kind blue eyes will be the one to show her new things and teach her about the world. Maybe even teach her about love.

48. Me?!

Lias POV

I gaze up at the huge structure. I had seen pictures of them before in magazines and on the telly; but never in real life.
"Like it?" He asks, smiling and leading me towards it.
"It's... Niall I've never been in one before!" I exclaim, as he opens up the door to the basket and we step in. I look up at the huge balloon hanging above. The same huge balloon that was about to take me into the air. The man operating it pulls some levers and the flame causes the structure to lift up. I squeal in surprise as the feeling of floating comes over me.
"It's beautiful," I breath as we look out at London beneath us. Lights all around the city are illuminated and it looks straight off of a postcard.
"Ten, nine, eight, seven," we here the countdown being cheered by the people in the hall, faintly in the background.
"Lia?" Niall asks, taking something from his pocket and beginning to lean down.
"Six, five, four,"
"Would you make me the happiest boy in the world," he starts, opening the box. Inside the velvet folds is my mother's engagement ring.
"And be my wife?"
"Three, two, one!" Screams erupt from the hall as I gape at Niall.
Had he just asked me to marry him?
To marry him?
I fling my hands to my mouth, concealing a grin as tears form in my eyes.
"Lia?" He prods when I don't answer.
"You want to marry me?" I ask in utter disbelief, pointing a finger to my chest.
"Of course, you are my everything. You make getting up in the morning worth while and you make going to sleep worth while because I know that I'll be sleeping next to you." His blue eyes meet mine.
"I will," I finally say, flinging my arms around his neck. I grin until my cheeks hurt, taking in his sweet scent.
"I love you," he says, standing up.
"I love you too," I reply, smiling as our lips crash together and Big Ben echoes in the background.

Niall's POV

I wake up to the sound of Lias laughter. I smile immediately and run my hands over my face. I sit up and crack open my eyes; looking out of the window. I spot Lia on top of Melody; Belle on Star. They were racing around the field, Melody pulling ahead just by a fraction. I watch until they stop and the two girls high five. I loved seeing her happy. It had been a week since she'd agreed to marry me and I was the happiest person in the world right now. Everything was going fine. I step out of bed and pull on a shirt, ruffling my hair though my hands and stretching. I rush down the stairs as my stomach rumbles with hunger.
"Someone's eager this morning," Liam notes as I run into the kitchen.
"Hungry," I shrug, opening the fridge.
"I gathered." He chuckles, taking a sip of his coffee.
"When are you ditching us, then?" He asks, eyebrow raised.
"What?" I ask, my mouth full of food.
"When are you dragging poor Lia down the aisle, silly." He chucks a tea-towel at me.
"For your information, she agreed to marry me." I roll my eyes and take a seat at the breakfast bar, taking a gulp of cereal.
"And anyway, it's not happening till next year. Ill be twenty and she'll be nineteen by then anyway." I add. Lots of people had commented on our ages, but we weren't going to get married this instant. The newspapers has called us horrible things; some even claiming that Lia forced me to propose to her. None of it was true though, and thankfully it hadn't seemed to have bothered Lia.
"Hmm," he winks at me before chucking the rest of the coffee down the drain. He leaves and I shake my head, chuckling. The boys had been a bit shocked when we told them, the girls however had immediately jumped into wedding planning mode. It was mad.
"Morning," Lia walks in and kisses my nose. I smile and swallow my cereal.
"How was Melody?" I ask, walking over to the sink and washing my bowl. She lifts herself up onto the counter, bouncing her feet on the cabinet.
"Great. She's really coming along," she smiles, looking over her shoulder and out at the stables.
"What's everyone doing today then?" I ask her and she bites her lip.
"I think they're all going ice skating, I'm not sure."
"Let's go," I take her hand and lead her to find the others.

Lias POV

"I like this one," I exclaim, picking up a small baby dress.
"Are you finding out the sex?" Belle asks B as she searches through the rack with me.
"I don't know, I don't want to. I think Harry wants to leave it a surprise too so probably not." I glance over at B. She was six months along now and was really big now.
"Hmmm, what about this?" Belle pulls out a small baby grow.
"That's perfect, it's white too." Brooke takes it and runs her hands over the soft fabric.
"Ouch," Brooke complains, clutching a hand to her stomach.
"They won't stop kicking today." She rolls her eyes but then smiles affectionately at her bump.
"Let's go pay for these and then we can head home," I say, taking Brooke's hand and leading her towards the tills. The woman recognises us and asks how the baby is. She also asks to see my engagement ring and I proudly show her. The woman hands Brooke the bag and we say our goodbyes.
"See, why can't all people be like that?" Brooke says, casting a glance back at the shop as we head our of the shopping center.
"She was lovely," I agree. Some people were so forceful and demanding. They acted as though we were from a different planet; even though I was a girl from the Favella slums in Brazil.
