Rescue Me

Lia has lived in the slums of Rio, Brazil all her life and when Lia steals from a shop one night, two boys chase her and pin her to the ground. But what Lia doesn't realise is that this one Irish boy with kind blue eyes will be the one to show her new things and teach her about the world. Maybe even teach her about love.

32. Aaliyah

Lias POV

I crack open my eyes to the sound of Brooke snoring. I lay there for several minutes, finally deciding that I'm not going to fall back asleep anytime soon. I check the clock on the bedside table. 7:16. I give a small sigh and heave the covers off of me. I swing my legs round and stand up. I pad over to the bedroom door and crack it open. In just Niall's shirt and fluffy socks I trot out of the room and into the hall. It's silent but I can hear the faint noise of chatter and cutlery from downstairs in the cafe where breakfast is being served. I head into Niall's room and find him fast asleep in his bed. Not wanting to disturb him, I leave and head to Louis' room instead. I heard something smash in the early hours of the morning and it sounded like it came from his room. I knock on the door softly but there's no answer so I creep inside. The living room is empty and so is the kitchen area but I spot the glass and carefully tread around it. As I'm about to leave, I hear a muffled cry from the bedroom. I pad over and nudge the door open. I poke my head in and see a cot at the foot of the bed.
A cot?
What the?
I shuffle over and lean over the edge. Lying a the bottom is a small baby girl, probably only two or three years old. I gape at the child.
Why was there a baby in Louis room?
I glance at the bed. Instead of Louis, I spot a girl with blonde hair curled up beneath the duvet; sleeping soundly. I bite my lip in confusion and look over the side of the bed to see Louis asleep on the floor. I glance back at the girl and once more at the baby, then I head out of the room.
What the hell?!
I literally run back to Niall's and crash in to his room.
"Huh?" He asks, tired and confused as I flop down beside him. He sits up and takes me in before smiling and lying back down, wrapping an arm around me.
"Niall," I hiss.
"Niall, why is there a girl in Louis' room?" I ask him as his eyes drift shut again.
"Maybe he liked her," he shrugs, eyes still closed.
"Then why is there a baby in there with them?" I ask and this time, his eyes fly open.
"Bloody hell, that was fast!" He exclaims.
"No, Niall! It's obviously not Louis' child but I have a feeling that it is the girls." I chuckle as realisation washes over him.
"Well, why is she in there then? I didn't see her last night," Niall squints at the ceiling and I lay my head on his chest.
"Shall we go find out?" He suggests and I nod.
"We have to be quiet though, we don't want to wake the baby." I remind him as we both creep along the hall. I nudge open the door again to find it empty so Niall heads in to the bedroom. A few seconds later, a now awake Louis is being carried on Niall's shoulder towards me. He takes Louis in to his room and plonks him on to the sofa.
"What was that for?" He groans, half asleep.
"We want to know why there is a girl and a baby in your bedroom!" Niall exclaims and I hit him to remind him to keep his voice down.
"I.... Oh we'll I was hoping that you guys wouldn't find us like that. Anyway, I broke a glass last night," he starts.
"I heard you," I tell him and he nods.
"So I went down to the lobby to find a cleaner as I couldn't see a mop anywhere. I knew I wouldn't get back to sleep so I couldn't leave it till morning. I went down and asked the security guard and he told me there was a night cleaner on duty on the bottom floor. He gave me the room number and I wandered about, then I heard crying. I went into the room and found Belle there crying on the bed holding her little sister. She told me the manager had sacked her and said that she had to be out by morning. I couldn't leave her homeless with a younger sister to care for. So I took her back to my room and we fell asleep." Lou shrugs and I smile, satisfied. He really was compassionate.
"But I need you to talk to her for me, Lia. She was really sobbing last night and I have a feeling she's not going to be happy this morning. I have no idea how to care for a baby either." He admits, looking at me hopefully. I nod and smile, promising that I will.

I leave the boys in the living room of Niall's room and I head to my own to get changed. Brooke is awake, straightening her hair. I spot Iva still fast asleep in her bed so I creep around the room to the chest of drawers. I get changed into a pair of black leggings, fluffy purple socks and an oversized purple jumper. I pull my long hair into a messy bun and help Brooke decide on what she should wear.
"I'm going to talk to someone, i'll be ten minutes." I tell Brooke but she pulls me back by the arm.
"Talk to who?" She asks, her blue eye wide. I take a deep breath and tell her about Louis and Belle. She raises her eyebrows at the last part and I shrug.
"Do you want to come with me?" I ask and she nods.
"Sure, lets go."
We both head across the room and gently knock on the door to Louis' room. We both head into the bedroom where the girl is standing over the cot, looking down at the child.
"Excuse me?" I ask, keeping my voice soft.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I just I- i'll leave." She stutters, obviously scared by our presence.
"No, no. It's okay, darling. We're just here to talk to you. We're Louis' friends." Brooke says and the girl's face becomes confused. She was a little older than us, nearer to Louis' age than ours.
"Louis?" She furrows her eyebrows.
"The boy who's found you last night," I inform her and she nods, understanding.
"I'm just about to leave so could you tell him that I said thank you," she says, beginning to pick up the baby from the cot. Her green eyes are terrified so I set towards her and ask to see the child. She nods slowly, cradling the child in her arms. Nestled in a blanket is a small girl, probably about three years old, with blonde hair that matches the girl and stunning green eyes with freckles of blue in them.
"She's beautiful," I say and Brooke joins me.
"Is she your sister?" She asks and the girl bites her lip.
"No, she's mine."
"How old are you?" I ask and she tells us that she's twenty.
"What are your names?" I nod at the child.
"I'm Belle and this is Aaliyah." She tells me, stroking the cheek of the girl.
"Hello Aaliyah, you have a beautiful name." I play with her small fingers and she cracks a smile. Me and Brooke coax information from Belle for the next twenty minutes and she finally agrees to come back to my room. We lead her inside and Iva comes dancing in. She spots the child and immediately asks all about her.
"She's going to be my new bestfriend," Iva declares and I chuckle.
"This is Iva, or Jelly as she's better known. She's my younger sister," I tell Belle and she nods, smiling at Iva.
