7. Guilt

I took a deep breath. I wasn't sure about any of this. I really wanted to tell him yes, but my stomach twisted and I fought the urge to hurl. I stared at him for awhile, trying to keep my emotions in check. My eyes stung with tears, and instead of butterflies I felt wasps stinging at my insides. I stared at his red eyes for awhile, and he begun to look nervous and uneasy.

"Ravenna?" He urged silently. His eyes were starting to hold fear within their depths.

"Yes, I will marry you, Alex." I smiled, even though smiling was the last thing I wanted to do. For some reason, this didn't feel right.

He smiled, and laughed with relief. "For a second there I thought you were going to say no," he slipped the ring onto my finger. I took a deep breath and brought my hand to my face so I could study it.

Basically, it was a gold ring with three rubies embedded into a beautiful web of more gold. I smiled.

"So...you're my fiance." He winked at me, and I couldn't keep up my fake smile anymore. He immediately lost the humor in his eyes. "Are...you okay?" He asked.

"Yeah, I'm perfect." I forced a laugh.

"You seem a little...off focus." He stared at me in concern, and slowly rose from his knees. "Are you sure you're okay?"

I went on my toes, and kissed him on the lips. He put his arms around me tenderly. I pulled away slightly, and took a deep breath. "Yeah, I'm sure." I whispered while looking into his eyes. He smiled, picked me up, and started running with a new found strength.

I actually starting laughing. "You're totally awesome." He didn't reply for a few seconds, until we reached the oak tree that has been growing outside of my bedroom since I was a little vamp.

"And we're totally home now." He set me down, and took my hand. "Shall we process into this lovely establishment?" He asked sarcastically.

"Yes, I think we shall." I replied in the same mocking tone. He lead me inside, and as soon as we were through the threshold began to shout his "wonderful" news to the world.

"We're engaged! Mother, father come and look at my beautiful bride! She has made me the happiest being on this entire planet!" For the hundredth time that day he picked me up and swung me around.

My mother busted through the room. "Your what?" She shrieked. "I planned weeks of careful dating and witty flirts, just for you to ruin it all by falling in love too fast? I forbid this, I absolutely forbid it!"

Alex's mother came in, looked at the ring on my finger, and then looked at my mother in complete shock. "You will forbid nothing! With their wedding day that much closer, the joining of the covens is closer as well. We will have the upper hand in the war against the wolves. While they're sorting out their ceremonies, we will be attacking!"

"Mother, if Ravennica's mother would like to postpone the wedding, it's okay."Alex laughed. I took great notice of the fact that he never let go of my hand.

"Thank you, Alexander, for having enough common sense to realize that people of my coven are not just going to start drinking human blood. I'm very sure Ravennica can not only relate, but explain the the horror and cruelty we find in drinking blood from a human being."

Alex's mother rolled her eyes. "You're wicked instinct really are slow. Can you not smell the change in your own daughter?"

"What are you talking about?" My mom asked cautiously. "What change do you smell in my daughter?"

"I...I drank human blood mommy." I muttered under my breath.

My mom gasped, and sank to the floor. "I...I thought you were going to be our spokesperson, our defender, our leader in the new pack! You were supposed to look out for us!” She roared, coming closer and closer.

I dropped Alex's hand to back up against the door. “I'm sorry! I don't know what I was thinking, I'll fix it!”

“There's nothing to fix Ravennica! You let your father down! You disobeyed his wishes, and turned your back on everything he taught you!” There were tears coming down my mother's cheeks, and I couldn't take it anymore. I exploded.

“I said I was sorry! Papa would never yell at me the way you do! He would never force the blame on me! You're just mad that he's gone your stuck with a disappointment like me!” I ran out the door.

I heard someone calling my name, but I didn't care. I had enough problems to deal with, I couldn't stand anymore feelings of guilt.

I already felt extremely depressed ever since I said yes to Alex's proposal and I had no idea why. It felt like I gave up a whole big chunk of my heart, and I have no idea how to get it back. Killing that human had already ripped out a big chunk, and now my mother was trying to make me feel even guiltier than I already felt? It felt like there was an empty whole where my heart should have been, and there was no way to fill it back up.

I just kept running. There was nothing to do anymore, my head was a big blur and 'I had no idea what to do.

My feet pounded against the ground, and I could smell the flowery scent of the forest.

Wait...I know that flowery scent. It's the fucking werewolf.
