Lissy's Patchwork Life

Liss has everything she wants- three brilliant friends, loving parents, a boyfriend, and school is going well. She has a patchwork quilt on her bed. It is her favourite thing in the world. But one day, her quilt breaks. Torn in pieces. Which is what happens to Liss's life when her best friend's boyfriend tries to kiss her. And afterwards, he posts it to Facebook, turning it round so that it sounds like SHE came onto HIM. And so, her boyfriend Jake, dumps her and so do all her friends. She cracks under the added pressure of GCSE's. Her life, like her quilt, is falling apart.

9. Relief

Still smiling with my arm around Jake, we walk around to my next class. Jake is in the year above me and has a free period and no homework, so he was going to talk to Tom and try and get the truth out of him. I stretch up on my toes to give him a quick kiss, and he says "Bye, Lissy. See you later!" He blows me a kiss.

I turned and headed into Geography, no longer caring what anyone thought of my high energy, happy demeanour. I plopped down in my seat next to my Geoggy buddy Lucy.

Lucy looked at me as if I was mad. "You're in a good mood today! Didn't you go on Facebook last night?"

I sighed, not really wanting to be reminded of that. "Yes, and I lost all my friends to it. I'm just happy for now because my boyfriend decided to take me back!" I suddenly realise how bad that sounds.

But then we are forced to shut up, because my Geoggy teacher walks in and says "Right, Year 9. We are going to begin preparations for the World Geography section of our GCSE exam!" Although I groan, he seems genuinely excited. He probably knows that world geography is my major Akhille's heel.

A very long 100 minutes later, I grab a sandwich and a cookie from the canteen, and take it outside to meet Jake. When I finally see him, he doesn't look happy. In fact, this is what I envisioned his face would look like if he didn't think I was telling the truth. I can only come to one logical explanation, and that is that Tom was a lot more convincing than I had bargained for.

Deep breath. Calm yourself, Lissy. "Hey, baby! How was Tom?" I decided to play it dumb.

Jake just looked at me. "Tom told me everything. He told me how you came up to him with no explanation and started pulling him. Is that true, Liss?" He says the word Tom like HE was the one who told him everything!

"No! Of course it's not true! That's exactly what he did to me!" I didn't know how to convince him that I was telling the truth. "Jake, look. He came up to me, stuck his tongue down my throat, and then I forced him off me. I explained to him how much I love you, and then he seemed to show some real, genuine remorse as soon as I mentioned Lola. So you can see exactly why he did it, to protect his relationship with her!" But this time, Jake can't be convinced. His face set in stone, his voice hard like concrete.

"No, Liss. It's not going to work out if you lie to me. And to be honest, Tom was a lot more convincing than you were. I've known him forever. So, honey," he sneers the word "you're on your own now. It's over."
