Lissy's Patchwork Life

Liss has everything she wants- three brilliant friends, loving parents, a boyfriend, and school is going well. She has a patchwork quilt on her bed. It is her favourite thing in the world. But one day, her quilt breaks. Torn in pieces. Which is what happens to Liss's life when her best friend's boyfriend tries to kiss her. And afterwards, he posts it to Facebook, turning it round so that it sounds like SHE came onto HIM. And so, her boyfriend Jake, dumps her and so do all her friends. She cracks under the added pressure of GCSE's. Her life, like her quilt, is falling apart.

7. Pleading

After a particularly agonising English lesson, my body full of dread for what was coming, I headed out to the yard. I had decided to deal with Lola first, seeing as I would see her a lot more, and I had known her for so much longer than Jake. I nervously scanned the yard for Lola. I decided to try our usual spot, the corner of the yard next to the pile of coats. I spotted a huge black lump of coats in the corner of the yard, and then, a couple of paces ahead of it, was the three blonde heads that I knew so well. Kitty's soft, light blonde, Tillie's dirty blonde, and Lola's light brown with blonde highlights. I wanted to put this off for as long as possible... but I had to do this, if our friendship had any hope of surviving. So I started to walk over. Breathing slowly. In. Out. In. Out. Life seemed to slow down as Lola turned and caught my eye. It was the same look of intense hatred as I had seen this morning. But I am strong. I am brave. I can do this. I did nothing wrong.

And that's when I realised that one little detail that I had overlooked before, and never given any thought to. I didn't do anything. I held onto that thought for as long as I possibly could. It made me strong. I approached Lola. She looked as if she were about to walk off.

I called out after her. "Lola! I need to talk to you!"

She turned around, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. "What?" She said, sounding bored, but I could just detect the shake of anger in it.

I took a deep breath in, and began my pleading. "Lola, I know you saw the picture, and I need you to know that it's not what you think. Tom is a liar, he just walked up to me and stuck his tongue down my throat! I know it sounds like I'm lying, abut I'm not, I swear I'm not." She just stares at me with the same expression of bored anger on her face. "Lola, please. We've been friends forever. I could never do that to you! I have Jake. I love him! There's no reason why I would do that to him - or you. Especially you!"

"Liss, why do you think that Tom would do that to me? And then lie about it?! I can't believe that you actually think I'm stupid enough to believe that!!" I don't think I have ever seen my best friend this angry. Well, not with me, at least.

I decide that a sensible tactic is to try calming her down. "Lola. Please listen to me. I haven't done anything, I have never even thought about being involved with Tom!" I gaze up at her with a puppy-dog expression.

That seems to strike a nerve, though. "Don't try and guilt me into believing you're not lying! I know that NOTHING you're saying is true!" Oops. "And I don't know why you aren't happy with Jake, but its no excuse to go after MY BOYFRIEND." She yells.

 I start. "Lola-"

"No, Liss. We're done. Stay away from me. And stay away from Tom." Lola walks off, taking all my hope with her. Kitty turns on her heel and flounces after Lola, and Tillie slowly follows. I feel as though my world has crumbled to the ground.
