Chapter 1

I woke up to an urgent knocking on my door, I slowly sat up and looked over my shoulder at Natasla, she simply rolled over and wrapped herself with more of the blanket. I stood and walked over to the door. I opened it a crack to see a Thieves Guild member with a pair of Assassins Order members at either of his sides. I opened the door more and waved them inside. They all came in, the Assassins making the Praying Hands Bow to me and vice versa. The Thief and I hugged, pick pocketing each other. Then we handed each other back our belongings. I sat down at the table in the center of the room. The Assassins and the Thief came over and sat down on the opposite side of me. "What is it?" I asked. The three of them looked at each other. Then the Assassins took off their hoods, one was a man, the other a woman. The Thief looked back at me and then he took a deep breath. "Helcan, Sfargan, and Mishrio have been caught by guards and put on trial for their crimes." He said. My eyes widened and I stood then I began pacing. The three of them watched me until I spoke. "Where are they being held?" I quickly asked. "North of here." Said the male Assassin. "In Herrotera." Said the female Assassin. "Who turned them in?" I asked offensively. I looked between the three of them as they looked between each other. Then they all looked at me. "We don't know." The Thief said. I opened my mouth to shout at them but then quickly shut it again, only to sigh instead. I began pacing again, rubbing my temples at the same time. Then I stopped and looked at them. "Call together the Assassins and the Thieves, I said, tell them to meet me in the Assassins Den." The three of them nodded then they stood and I opened the door for them to leave. They all walked out and I shut the door behind them. I walked over to the bed and shook Natasla awake, she rolled over and looked up at me. "What is it?" She asked? "Helcan, Sfargan, and Mishrio have been caught and put on trial for their crimes in Herrotera." I said. Natasla was out of the bed so fast I though the bed sheets had torn from the force she used when she ripped them away from her slender body. "We have to help them." She said pulling her leggings on. I stood in silence while she clipped her skirt on around her hips and began pulling on her metal plated knee high boots. Then she stopped and looked at me, her shirt in her hand. "What's wrong?" She asked. I shook my head. "I feel like this is my fault, I said as I turned away, if I hadn't sent them there on that contract I wouldn't have gotten them caught." Natasla put her slender, but muscled arms into the sleeves of her shirt and came up behind me, setting her hand on my shoulder. "It's okay, we'll get them freed and out of that city before the guards know what happened." She said. I smiled and patted her hand on my shoulder and then got my leggings pulled on over my pants. I looked over at Natasla as she pulled on her tunic and spaulders, then I looked back and pulled on my own tunic. I sat down on the bed and pulled on my own metal plated boots. They were the newest trend in the armories, so I swiped a pair for us. I sat for a moment and watched Natasla pull on her wrist braces and tie them down to her wrists. Then I grabbed my spaulders and strapped them onto my shoulders, followed by my chest plate. I pulled on the straps, securing the back and front plates together. Natasla came over and sat next to me handing me my father's short sword, I smiled and took it. Then I stood and tied it to my belt as she tied her rapier to her hip. I picked up our Charred Darkness Blades, mine was the one I had found in my father's study twenty years ago. Natasla's was the one she had earned when she officially joined The Order ten years ago. I didn't know why my father had a Charred Darkness Blade. He was never part of The Order, but it didn't matter. I tied the kukri to my belt and watched as Natasla tied her kukri to her own belt. Then I grabbed my dagger and tied it to the back of my belt, followed by my alloy claymore sword to my back and my throwing knives into their sheaths on my belt. Then I picked up my surcoat and pulled it on over my shoulders. Natasla pulled on her black silk cloak I had gotten her ten years ago, it was old but it still held it's shape. I watched as Natasla handed me my arm blade. They were now considered antiques, but it was still far more effective than the common sword or dagger. We were ready, ready to free our friends and ready to go meet the Assassins of The Order.
