Facing The Truth (A OneDirection Fanfiction)

Everyone I knew moved on with their lives.

Jake stayed with me through summer. Holding me when I needed to cry. Putting up with me when I needed to scream and yell. Helping me laugh for those small moments of forgotten joy I had left. And talking to me when I lost touch with reality.

But he had to leave too. No one was going to stay and wait for the lost girl with the broken smile.

Eventually, I sold our house. And left for England. I had too many broken memories and lost dreams in California.

I could lie and say that I was excited. Or I could tell the truth and say my cheeks weren't dry from the tears the whole flight. Bittersweet memories and nostalgia flooded my shattered heart.

14. Surprise

*Harry's POV*

She looked so peaceful when she slept. Her curly hair tumbling down the sides of her face, her eyelashes perked up her closed eyes. Me and the lads giggled at her parted lips and the soft breaths she inhaled and exhaled patternly.

"She's going to kill us guys." Liam whispered.

"All the funnier." Niall chuckled.

"Niall get the water balloons!" Louis scream whispered

"Zayn plug the iHome in." I whispered.

He plugged it in my iPhone and pressed play. It blasted our voices singing happy birthday.

She shot out of bed and screamed, looking around. When she realized it was only us, her face contorted from a surprised expression, to a fuming mad Scar.

"What's wrong, princess?" Louis said with a sly smirk.

"Feeling a bit hot?" Zayn chuckled.

"It's ok, we'll cool you down." Niall smirked as he pulled water balloons from behind his back.

"Guys..?" Scar's face was priceless. Her eyebrows shot up and she sounded scared.

Before either of us could process what was going on, she sprinted from the bed and ran past us. Damn she was fast.

"After her!" Zayn screamed. And we all ran after her. She sprinted towards the front door and we all threw a balloon at her. Lucky for her she had already opened the door and hopped outside before the balloons could get to her......

But they got to someone else instead....

"Oh El... Hehe, heeyyyy..." Louis stifled his giggle while the rest of us burst into laughter. Scar was rolling on the ground with her head thrown back in laughter.

*Eleanor's POV*

I was just about to ring the doorbell when the door swing open and a very frantic Scarlette rushed outside, I turn back to face the doorway and was showered with water.

What. The. Hell.

I opened my eyes and saw five pairs of eyes wide in shock before bursting out in laughter.

Oh it is on.

We all ran out to the front yard and a full on water fight erupted. Harry was holding Scar against the wall while Liam dumped a bucket of water. Zayn and Niall were chasing me and Louis with the hose. And we continued on like that for a good half hour before realizing that people were staring.

*Scarlette's POV*

Harry's curls tickled my neck as he rested his head on my shoulder. I was sitting on his lap at the table with his arms rested around my waist.

A very large cupcake lit up with a candle was sat in front of me. Louis, Zayn, Liam, Niall, Katie, and Eleanor finished singing happy birthday to me.

"Happy Birthday Angel." Harry whispered into my my ear before leaving a kiss on my cheek. I still got shivers every time we made contact.

"Aw thank you guys. You didn't have to." I smiled at them.

"But we wanted to." Katie pinched my cheeks. She giggled as I slapped her hands away.

"I say we go to that new club that just opened!" Louis yelled.

They all nodded and exclaimed in agreement.

"So how about it Scar?" Niall asked with a grin.

"Oh uh you guys go ahead, I'll just chill here."

"No way. It's your birthday today!"

"You have to come!"

"You've never gone clubbing with us!"

"It'll be fun!"

They all shot objections all at once. Harry was pouting with his puppy dog eyes. God he was cute.

"Nah it's o-" I was just about to say something when Katie stopped me.

"You're coming and it's final. No ifs ands or buts."

I looked at each and every one of them and they all looked hopeful.

"Ugh fine, I'll go. But I'm not drinking." I gave in.

"Haha of course not. We wouldn't want a repeat of California now would we?" Harry smirked at me. The boys giggled.

"Oh god don't bring that up." but of course he and the boys went off into full detail and explanation of the horrid night. El and Katie burst into laughter.

"Jerks." I muttered.

I was wearing a tight black dress that came six inches above my knees with velvet button black stilettos. My hair was in it's usual curls but it was pinned back from the side and my bangs curled back out of my face.

El and Katie insisted I wear makeup. So my usual full lashes were now even fuller and thicker, my waterline was lined with deep kohl, and my lips were a dark red.

Can you say unusual?

"You look stunning." El gushed.

"Eh." I didn't think I looked too good. It was more like I was just winging it. El on the other had was gorgeous.

"Oh shut up. Harry is going to freak when he sees you." Katie giggled as she curled her lashes.

"Girls! Come on! You're taking ages up there!" I heard Louis yell from downstairs.

We scrambled down the stairs. I glanced at Harry and waited for his reaction.

Well I got it.

His eyes grew wider as his mouth dropped. He shoved his hands into his pockets as he stared at me. He didn't look too bad himself. A navy blue blazer atop a white polo with dark loose fitted jeans. My lovely boyfriend.

Everyone seemed notice his reaction because Louis was the first to comment.

"Close your mouth mate, you'll catch flies."

I giggled as I walked up to him and linked my arm with his.

"I was thinking more along the lines of my soccer training outfit but the girls forced me into this." I whispered into his ear as we piled into his range rover.

"I didn't realize my girlfriend could get any more gorgeous. Until a few minutes ago of course."

It's been over a year and I still couldn't get used to him calling me his girlfriend. I smiled as he leaned down and placed his signature kiss on the bridge of my nose. Ghostlike, sweet, delicate. My insides melted everytime. I never had this feeling with anyone else before.

I instantly felt bad about not telling him the full truth about my parents. He thought my mother died in a car accident and my dad is still in California.

Why I haven't told him? I have no idea. Part of me felt like I couldn't tell him. The other part felt like I had to. It was so confusing.

I knew that if I opened those wounds again, they wouldn't stop bleeding. Katie knew how hard it was for me to talk about them and she never pressured me.

But I'm going to have to tell him soon enough. I already met his mother and sister, they're both amazing people. At some point he's going to want to meet my dad. I have to tell him the truth.

So many thoughts were crossing my mind on the way to the club.

We got to the club and the boys got the VIP section reserved for us.

"Scarlette! Let's go dance! Katie yelled over the blasting music and pulled me and El onto the dance floor.

Most of the night was a blur between the dancing, the drinking and the laughing. It was around 1:30am and everyone, but me and Liam, was drunk.

El and Louis were sitting down in one of the VIP booths, giggling to themselves.

Zayn and Katie were off dancing together. They look a little too happy. I giggled to myself. They were cute.

I lost track of Niall 20 minutes ago.

Harry said he'd be right back 15 minutes ago. I couldn't help but feel extremely worried. I felt something unsettling in the pit of my stomach.

I got up to look for him. I checked the dance floor, the bar, I even asked someone to check the men's restroom, but he was nowhere to be found.

I got a little dizzy so I went outside to the alley behind the club for some fresh air. I opened the door and felt someone pull me harshly. A couple of guys in black suits were standing in front of me.

"I'm sorry, is there a problem?" I asked. The feeling in my stomach grew larger.

The two men looked at each other in surprise.

"She's grown so much." One of them whispered to the other.

"It has been a while." The other replied.

"What are you talking about?" I asked, clearly confused.

"Scarlette Lindough?" One of them asked.

"That's me." I said shakily.

"Hello you can call me Jones, and this is Pete."

My sixth sense suddenly kicked in and sent me bad vibes. I felt it down to my stomach.

"What do you want from me?"

"Nothing. We only want you."

"What do you mean?" My face paled.

"Ms. Lindough, we need to speak with you in private." Jones said with a stern look on his face.

"Why? What's going on?" I was mentally crying.

"You'll find out as soon as we take you."

"Take me where?!" I was just about turn and run when they grabbed my waist hoisted me into a van. I let out an ear piercing scream.

They threw me in the van with a tight grip on my hands and shut the door. The windows were all tinted.

Jones' hand was clasped on my mouth. I saw Harry walk outside with his phone on his ear. 'Harry!!' I mentally shouted.

Before Harry knew what was going on, Pete took one good swing at him and his body went limp as it tumbled to the ground.

My world slowed down as I watched my boyfriend fall to the ground.

I somehow got out of Jones' grasp, opened the van door, and sprinted over to him.

"Harry!!" I was screaming in tears.

I knelt to the ground and put his head in my lap.

"Harry. Harry! Harry please..." I was shaking him so hard.

"Don't worry. He's just unconscious." Jones said as Pete pulled out a gun and pointed it at Harry.

"On the other hand, that can change pretty quickly if you don't cooperate with us." Pete said in a strict voice.

I looked at Harry's closed eyes and my stomach turned.

"Fine. But mark my words, Harry gets hurt the slightest, and I will raise hell on you bastards." I was surprised at the anger in my voice.

"He won't. You have my word." Jones was serious. "Pete, drive him to his house. Make sure he's ok. Leave before he wakes up."

Pete nodded. I kissed Harry's lips quickly but desperately. I almost cried when I didn't feel his lips alive against mine.

I watched as Pete carried Harry to his car and they sped off. I turned around and faced Jones.

"Let's go." he said.

"No. Not until you tell me what's going on."

Jones became quiet and looked at the ground. "Fine...We know the man that murdered your mother."
