If You Hate Me, Hate Me, If You Love Me, Tell Me

About Natasha, a girl bullied for her good looks, her bright blue eyes and long strawberry blonde hair. Until she meets Joey, a tall thin boy with long brown hair and almost black eyes. The boy all the girls love. Then, when it seems like it might get better, the tunnel closes and the light disappears.

14. The longest walk of my life

As I walked home girls came out of their houses to shout at me. I took my phone out and called Joey.

"Joey?" I cried

"Tash? What's wrong?"

"Everything's wrong. I can't do this anymore, I can't"

"You can't do what?"

"Everything. My life is bad. I can't do this anymore"

"Where are you?"

"At the end of your street"

"Stay there, don't move, I'll find you" I could hear him sigh sadly

I could see him walking quickly towards me. I got up to walk away but he began to run. I didn't have the energy and I felt his hand grab my wrist. He pulled me round to face him.

"Tash?" He said, concerned

"I'm fine" I turned to walk away but his grip tightened

"Fine doesn't mean you're ok. Fine means your not good."

"All the people.... They came out.... To call me names..." I sob into his shoulder

"They did what?"

"The bullies, came out to call me names when I walked past," I took a deep breath and tried to stop shaking.

"Look Tash, you're coming to live with me," He said

"But I'm only 17!"

"I can't let you go, I feel responsible for you"

"What will my mum say?"

"If she cared, she would notice"

There was truth in his words. My parents never cared about me. They wouldn't even notice I was gone if Joey hadn't phoned.

"Fine, I'll stay with you" I sighed

"You can go and pack a bag while I talk to your parents" He smiled at me. "It'll be fine, don't worry"

We walked to my house and I packed a bag. School uniform, jeans, hoodies, shirts, skirts, a few dresses and some shoes. I took my laptop as well and when I came down mum was smiling. I waved as I went out the door and Joey was leaning on a car outside. He jumped into the drivers seat and I crawled into the passenger seat.

"You'll be fine, you're strong," He held my hand and smiled before he drove to his house.

"I'm not strong, I just bottle everything up," I sighed

"Don't do that anymore, just tell me, I won't judge."

"I can't promise anything, but I really will try"

That night I crawled into bed next to Joey feeling safe, at least he would protect me. I hope life gets a little better now, I could really do with a break
