25. Waiting With A Star

I know you guys have been waiting for a while for this and I apologize.

I got my wisdom teeth pulled and the pain has mostly disappeared. I wanted to update before the surgery but my Internet was down. Then last Friday my cheek swelled up to where I looked like I had a golf ball in my mouth and was in a lot of pain.

Safe to say it was an interesting past couple of weeks and I thank you for being so patient.

I hope you like this chapter and let me know what you think!!

Laurel’s POV

Two hours.

It was two hours after practice should have started when I texted Louis.

Since the competition started, he hadn’t been late to or missed a practice. With no response, I tossed my phone back onto my bag and began conditioning.

Three hours.

I stopped exercising and moved on to perfecting the routine’s choreography. This was easier said than done solely for the reason that I couldn’t do the lifts in the routine without Louis.

“Mark, how is life?” I questioned as I sat next to him.

“Not bad, except right now it is kind of boring.” Mark answered with a smile.

“You’re telling me,” I laughed. “You can take a break; I’m sure nothing interesting will be happening anytime soon.”

Mark thought about it for a minute before standing up. “I think I’ll take you up on that; I’m going to get some food, do you want anything?”

“Nah, I’m good. Thanks anyways.”

Mark set the camera on a tripod and made sure it was recording before he left the studio, leaving me alone.

Four hours.

I dialed Louis’ number, but it went to voicemail. “Hey Louis, it’s Laurel. I’m just calling to see if you’re coming into practice today. Just let me know.”

Mason, on the other hand, actually picked up his phone. “Hey Lo, what’s up?”

“I was wondering if you were busy today; if you aren’t you could come to the studio and we could get started on the routines for Tuesday.” I said.

“I could probably make it there in a half hour or so, but shouldn’t you be rehearsing for the show?” Mason asked.

“Technically yes, I should be. But Louis never showed up and there is no point in me just sitting here doing nothing.” I explained.

“Yeah, I’ll be there soon.” Mason said before hanging up.

While waiting for Mason, I pulled out a few mats and began doing some gymnastics. I was walking around on my hands when Mason strolled through the studio door. “You look just as good upside down as you do right side up.”

“Well thank you,” I replied, bending my legs to keep my balance.

“How long have you been doing that?” Mason asked.

“Uh, check my phone. I’m trying to beat my personal record.”

“You’re face is bright red,” Mason pointed out.

“I would imagine so,” I answered. I saw his shoes coming closer and knew what he was planning on doing. “No, Mason don’t!” I tried moving away from him as fast as I could, but he pushed my legs and I collapsed on the ground. I looked up at him and he wore a shit eating grin. “You’re a fucking dick.”

“It happens,” he shrugged. “Now, get your ass up.”

When he turned away from me I stuck my tongue out at him, before smiling when he turned back around. “How are we doing this?” He asked.

“We could do the two of you together and then I dance with one of you and then all three of us dance together.” I suggested. Mason thought about it before nodding in agreement. “Have you thought of a song?”

“I was thinking The Monster by Eminem,” Mason told me.

“Alright, so you and I will do the choreography and then show it to Logan. Then the two of you can decide between yourselves who wants to dance with me.” I stated. “Have you two chosen a song?”

“Yup, but you’ll just have to wait and see.” He grinned.

I rolled my eyes and pulled up the song on my phone and plugged it into the stereo. We listened to the song a couple of times before agreeing on the section of the song we will be dancing to.

The dance started off a little slower, but once the weird voice started, the dancing picked up. “Yeah, pondering’ll do you wonders. No wonder you’re losing your mind the way it wanders.” By the end of the line, Mason and I were back to back. “Yoda-loda-le-hee-hoo, I think it went wandering off down yonder.” At the same time, Mason turned to the front while I spun to face the wall; then we grabbed each other’s hand and switched places, facing forward again.
Mason and I pretty much had the rest of the routine figured out besides a few sketchy parts that we were working on when Louis walked through the door.

My smile fell when I took in his appearance; his hair is disheveled and there are bags under his eyes, not to mention the fact he looked like he was about to be sick.

“Well, look who finally shows up.” Mason crossed his arms over his chest.

“Shut up, Mase.” I said. I walked over to Louis, “Are you alright?”

“Yeah, I’m sor—hey!” Louis broke off as I cuffed his head.

"That was for making me think you were dying," I explained.

"I deserve that...you thought I was dying?" Louis gave me a weird look.

"What was I supposed to think? You're over six hours late and not even a text to let me know that you were still living." I threw my hands in the air.

"I really am sorry. I was drinking last night and I must've had too much because I didn't hear my alarm. And Eleanor didn't bother to wake me up; she said she thought I needed more sleep. I just woke up twenty minutes ago and hauled ass to get here. I am so, so sorry Laurel." Louis said in one breath.

I stopped myself from rolling my eyes when he mentioned Eleanor and let out a sigh. "I don't mind if you want to come in late one day to catch up on sleep or whatever. This is your competition; I'm just here to help. If you want to win then great, but don't waste my time if you're not going to show up."

"I want to win and I'll work ten times harder to prove to you that I'm in this just as much as you are." Louis responded.

I kept a straight face, but I couldn't stay mad at him for long, especially when he was looking at me so earnestly. "Good," I smiled. "Then go stretch because we've got six hours of lost time to make up for and I don't plan on going easy on you."

"Before was easy?" Louis gaped. "Oh, I'm so screwed."

Mason nodded at his words and grinned, "Mate, all I can say is I'm glad I'm not you right now."
