7. Indecent Introduction

We stared at each other for what seemed like forever until he moved and sat on the chair next to me. He put his hand over his mouth and looked shocked.

“If I…If I had known it was you in the cab…I would’ve, I would’ve said something,” he stumbled over his words as he tried to get them out.

“I didn’t know it was you,” I whispered.

“Clearly,” he sighed and sat back.

“What happens now?” I asked him, not wanting to hear the answer.

“Well, what do you want to happen?” He looked at me; yet I could not look at him.

“I don’t know,” I sighed. “I guess I’d like to get to know you. You’re the only family I have left and I don’t even know who you actually are.”

“Well then, we can spend time together over the next few days and weeks, and get to know each other, yeah? You know, you’re the only family I have left too,” he smiled and took my hand.  “I have a daughter. My own little girl,” His smile spread across his face and I couldn’t help but giggle.

“And I have a Dad; I can be a Daddy’s Girl now.” I smiled.

“From now on, you’ll always be Daddy’s Girl,” he gave my hand a squeeze. We turned our heads in unison as the big door opened again. M and Q walked in with timid smiles on their faces.

“M, why didn’t you tell me she was here?” My Dad asked him. I smiled to myself as I looked at my dad. My dad. No one else’s. Mine.

“Well, I thought it would be a nice surprise for you if I hadn’t had told you,” M smiled cautiously.

“Well, I knew Elizabeth’s daughter was in England, I didn’t know she was here, so a little heads up would’ve been nice,” he chuckled as he looked back at me.

“Bond, did she tell you that she had agreed to work for MI6?” M asked him. I shook my head.

“What?!” Dad looked at me, his eyes as wide as saucers. “No, she didn’t.”

“I was going to, but I thought I could get to know you first before I told you, because I didn’t know if you wanted me to stick around or not.”

“Of course I want you to stick around! But this job’s too dangerous!” He almost shouted.

“Bond,” Q interrupted.

“What Q?!”

“You might want to see her at the Range, then make up your mind whether she will be in danger or not,” he said nodding towards the door.

“Or, you could just listen to what she has had to endure for the past 17 years of her life,” M added. I looked timidly at the man who was my father.

He sighed and got up from the chair.

“Come on then, show me what you can do,” he smiled at me and walked towards the door. Q gave me the thumbs up and gestured me to go before him. I nervously stood up and followed my dad with Q and M walking behind me.

I walked into the Range first and saw Will polishing some guns.

“Back again?” He winked at me.

“Yeah,” I laughed. “This time to prove I won’t be in danger out in the field.”

“You’re a danger to everyone else love!” Will laughed. He handed me the gun he had just finished cleaning.

“No thanks, I have my own,” I smiled as I took my Walther out of the back of my jeans. I put it on the table as I got a pair of ear muffs and a pair of goggles. I turned to see my father holding the gun.

“I remember I left this with your mum, just in case,” he said as he looked up at me. He turned the safety off and handed me the gun. “Show me what you’ve got.”

“I will,” I replied walking over to the booth. I waited for Dad, M, Q and Will to put on a pair of ear muffs before getting into the position. BANG!  The first shot rang out as a target popped up from behind a wall. It hit the first target dead centre in the chest. Another target popped up; another shot blasted through it, this time it hit it on the forehead. Another target, another shot. Each time I shot, I hit the target in a lethal zone. I carried on until I needed more ammunition. I removed my ear muffs and turned around to see my father looking absolutely amazed.

“Where on earth did you learn to shoot like that?” He asked removing his own ear muffs and walking over to me.

“In a forest in Russia,” I said placing the muffs back on their shelf.

“Russia?” Dad asked.

“Yeah, I’ve been on the run all over the world,” I sighed as I turned to face the guys.

“We told you she was good, Bond!” Q said patting me on the back. I smiled up at his geeky face and then looked at M whose face beamed with proudness.

“Wait, you were on the run? Why?” Dad had a confused expression.

“I’ll tell you in a bit. I want to go get something to eat first,” I said as I reloaded the Walther and placed it back into the back of my jeans.

“Woah young lady,” M said holding out his hand.

“What?” I asked.

“You don’t have a weapon license. You can’t be carrying that around London.” M wiggled his fingers. I sighed and reluctantly gave him the gun.

“I’ll put it in my safe in the office okay?” He said giving me a small smile.
“Okay,” I sighed.

“Bond, I need to see you in my office,” M said to my father.

“Sure, okay,” he said. His face still looked confused.

“Q, take Cat on a tour of London please,” M smiled at me, nodded at Will and walked out of the room.

“I’ll…urm..I’ll see you later, Cat?” My father looked at me, his brow creased.

“Yeah,” I smiled. He gave me a quick hug and followed M.

“On the run, huh?” I heard Will say from behind me.

“Yeah, long story,” I smiled at him. He laughed.

“I bet it is. Maybe you can tell me it sometime?”

“Yeah, of course,” I smiled at him. His eyes lit up as he smiled back. Q cleared his throat. I looked at him and remembered that he was going to take me on a tour of London. “I’ll see you soon, Will.” I smiled at him and walked towards the door with Q walking slightly in front of me.

“Bye!” I heard Will call.

Q and I took a detour to his office before leaving.

“So, do you want to walk or get a cab?” Q asked as he took his jacket from behind his leather chair.

“Let’s walk, I’ve never been on the tube,” I said. Q held his arm out and tucked mine under his.

“Then walk we shall,” he smiled and led me out of MI6.

The rain from the previous day had disappeared and the sun was shining. I smiled as we walked along the Vauxhall Bridge.

“Look there’s the London Eye,” Q stopped and pointed towards the giant wheel.

“Can we go on it?” I asked. Q smiled and nodded. I smiled back excitedly.

“It’ll be quicker getting a cab though,” he said.

“Okay.” Q flagged down a cab and we got in. Q told the driver where we were going and we were on our way.

“Tell me Cat, what is your favourite thing to eat?” Q asked.

“I’m not sure, the food I’ve had in the past few years has been limited to basically bread and water and the odd tin of rice if I was lucky,” I laughed.

“Was it that bad?” Q asked with a hint of sympathy in his voice.

“Yeah, but you get used to it. It was fun at times.”

“Why did you come back?”

“They found me again.” The memories flooded back and my eyes filled with tears.

“We’re here,” the taxi driver said. Q paid the man and opened the door for me. I stared up at the enormous wheel in front of me.

“Come on then,” Q smiled as he took me by the hand. He went up to the security at the ticket booth and showed his ID. The man smiled at Q and then at me. The next capsule that stopped was opened and Q pulled me into it. As soon as we were in the door shut and it started moving again; Q had managed to get a capsule for just the two of us. I walked to the window and gazed over to the Houses of Parliament.

“That’s where our Government meet.”

“It’s huge.” I said.

“The clock tower is called Big Ben; well, the bell inside it is called Big Ben.”

“Is it because it’s huge?” I asked with a smile on my face. Q let out a small laugh.

“Yeah,” he said. His eyes were bright as he smiled at me. Q carried on showing me landmarks of London such as St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Shard, Tower Bridge, Wembley Stadium and Buckingham Palace. We got off the wheel and headed towards Covent Garden for dinner.
