10. The Animal

It was eight at night when I got home. Dad and Eddie were in the living room. Dad was sitting on the sofa with his legs apart, his elbows on his knees and his face in his hands. Eddie was sitting next to him, patting him on the shoulder. Dad kept sighing heavily. I leaned against the wall, hugging myself, and Eddie game me a sweet half smile. I was sure he was hiding behind that smile all the sadness and bitterness he felt about our parents’ whole taking a break thing.

‘How are you feeling, daddy?’ I asked.

Dad lifted his eyes up, meeting mine. He had his chin on his hands. ‘Your Mom can be very stubborn, sometimes, but I miss her desperately.’

‘You can be very stubborn, too, daddy,’ I told him. Dad smiled at me, but stayed silent. He probably didn’t want to argue with me about what was really going on between him and Mom.

‘Mom shouldn’t have kept uncle Liam’s letter,’ Eddie said through his teeth. His right hand was on Dad’s shoulder, but his left one had balled into a fist. He was angry with her.

‘Uncle Liam’s her best friend!’ I replied, defending Mom. ‘She loves him, but she’s in love with Dad!’

Dad chuckled. ‘It’s as if I’m hearing Bess talking right now,’ he said, shaking his head.

And then, Jimmy Shadows walked into the living room. My mouth fell open. Had he been in my house this while time? ‘Here, Mr. Styles,’ Jimmy said, handing Dad a bottle of cold beer. ‘It'll make you feel better and forget.’

Dad thanked him, got up and left the room. He probably wanted to be alone for a while.

I glared at Jimmy and flipped out, ‘First off, what are you doing here? And secondly, did you honestly just advise my Dad to forget about my Mom right now?’

Jimmy fixed his eyes on me, putting his hands deep into his jeans’ pockets. ‘I’m sorry if what I said offended you, Emma,’ he said all innocently. This boy was a wolf in disguise.

‘Calm down, Em,’ Eddie told me. ‘Jimmy’s just trying to help. He and I were hanging out when Dad came to tell me about Mom.’

I looked at Eddie. ‘Since when are you and Jimmy Shadows hanging out?’ I demanded.

Eddie shrugged. ‘He’s a cool guy,’ he replied. ‘What’s your problem?’

I groaned inwardly, keeping my mouth shut. Honestly, were my Dad and my little brother so clueless? How could they not see how bad Jimmy was?

‘I better get going. I’ll talk to you later, mate,’ Jimmy said and Eddie nodded. Then, Jimmy kissed my cheek, touching my waist, and I froze to the spot. ‘I’ll see you tomorrow at school, Emma,’ he told me, and I blushed, because, he had said my name in the softest tone. Jimmy noticed, so, he winked at me with a grin, walking away.

After Jimmy left, Eddie said, ‘Jimmy likes you, Em. He likes you a lot.’

My eyes widened for a moment. Then, I got all defensive, ‘I don’t care. I’m going to my room.’ As I went up the stairs, Eddie chuckled and went to find Dad. In my room, I stripped out of my clothes and put on my pink silk pajamas, but when I turned round, I gasped. I wasn’t alone. Jimmy was in my bedroom! He had come in through the open window and he had seen me half naked!

‘Thanks for the show, babe,’ Jimmy said, moving closer. ‘I really enjoyed it.’

‘Are you out of your freaking mind!?’ I yelled at him in whispers. I didn’t want to make a scene and upset Dad. He already had enough on his plate. ‘Get out of my room! NOW!’

Freaking?’ Jimmy grinned, taking my hand. ‘Is fucking too bad a word for your innocent lips?’ he asked, staring at my mouth. He was only a few inches away.

I yanked my hand away. ‘You’re an animal!’ I told him.

‘You got that right, babe,’ Jimmy said. ‘I am an animal and I want to eat you up.’ And then, I started crying. Jimmy turned serious, pulled me into his arms and held me tight. I wanted to pull away, but his arms were so strong and so comforting. ‘Don’t worry about your parents, Emma,’ Jimmy said sincerely, cupping the back of my head. ‘When two people are as much in love with each other as your parents are, they can’t stay away from each other for too long.’

When I lifted my head up to him, Jimmy took my face into his hands, stroked his thumb on my cheek and smiled sweetly at me. He showed me another side of him, a side I never thought existed. ‘Thanks,’ I mumbled, wiping my tears away and stepping away from him.

Jimmy shoved his hands into his jeans’ pockets, looking me up and down. He chuckled at my pajamas. ‘You’re such a girl,’ he said, smiling, shaking his head.

‘I don’t get it,’ I told him. ‘One minute you’re this arrogant, cocky bad boy, and the next, you’re the sweetest guy ever.’

‘You bring out a different side of me, babe,’ Jimmy said, shrugging.

I blinked. ‘Me? Why?’

Jimmy looked at my face for a moment. Then, he replied with a mischievous little grin on his face, ‘Because I want to have sex with you.’

I narrowed my eyes at him. ‘That’s not going to happen.’

‘Oh, it is going to happen, babe,’ Jimmy said, crossing his arms across his chest. ‘And when it does, I’ll make sure you’re having a good time, too.’ At that, I blushed terribly, and Jimmy grinned, amused. When my phone rang, I jolted. It was Niall. I hit answer immediately.

‘Hello?’ I said, turning my back to Jimmy.

Hey, angel, how are you feeling? I wanted to check up on you,’ Niall said from the other end of the line.

‘I’m fine, thanks,’ I replied with a smile on my face.

‘Who are you talking to, babe?’ Jimmy asked from behind me and Niall fell silent.

Is someone there with you, angel?’ Niall asked.

I opened my mouth, but before I could say anything, Jimmy asked, ‘Is it the Irish old man?’

‘He’s not an old man, Jimmy!’ I protested, turning round.

Is Jimmy Shadows in your room, Emma?’ Niall asked, worried. ‘Okay, that’s it, I’m coming right over.’ Before I could object to that, Niall had hang up and was probably already on his way over. Jimmy was smirking. He looked so satisfied with himself. He had done all that on purpose.

‘Why are you doing this to me?’ I cried, all frustrated, and tried to hit him on the shoulder, but he grabbed my wrist. He put his other arm around me, pulling me against him.

‘I think I told you why, Emma. I want you,’ Jimmy murmured with his lips hovering over my forehead.

‘You should leave before my Dad finds out you’re in my room,’ I told him through my teeth, struggling.

‘Fine,’ Jimmy said simply, kissed my forehead and let me go. ‘I’ll be dreaming about what’s underneath your pajamas, tonight,’ he told me with a wink before he climbed out of my window. Argh! Jimmy made me so mad! But it wasn’t long before the doorbell rang. Niall was here.

I don't know, but I'm really torn between Niall and Jimmy. :/

Thank you all for the lovely comments! They really make my day!

So, what do you think of the new chapter? Which guy do you prefer? Irish man Niall or bad boy Jimmy?
