13, An Unlucky Number (FULL LENGTH!!!)

My book 13, An Unlucky Number is quite a long novel about a case worker named Angela. Her life is scarred by the need for revenge of a man named Steelo and his accomplice Skull. Together they try to settle a century old score, striking at Angela in any way they can. Victims piling up, Angela tries to run but whether Steelo and Skull succeed or fail at their path of destruction, 13 will turn out to be Angela's unlucky number.

22. Together Again

t had been fifty minutes since Kyle had taken the two cats and Ashley away and there was still no sign of him. Angela was still curled up in the corner of the cell, awaiting the news of the cats and Ashley. She was still in enormous pain but she fought to keep herself strong. For Jamie, she told herself. Still wrapped in grief for her loss of her son, Angela tilted her head up as the door to the basement flung open. There were two guards dragging a uniformed body towards the cage. The cell door opened and the figure was tossed in. The new prisoner wasn't breathing, a cloth wrapped around his mouth. The two guards slammed the door shut and left, their chuckles echoing throughout the basement. Angela rushed forward to the body lying still on the floor. She unwrapped the cloth from over the newcomers mouth. Sure enough Angela's thoughts were proved right. It was Kyle. She leaned over him, desperate to see his green eyes flicker open.. but they remained shut. A clenching started in her stomach as she placed her hand on the back of his head to support it. She then held him closer and prayed for him to return. "Kyle.. Kyle, don't leave me.." Angela pleaded in whispers, her voice small and drained. She moved her hand from the back of Kyle's head to hug him, but found her hand was smothered with blood. Her eyes became teary, her breaths now small gasps. "No.. Kyle.. what have they done to you?.."

The body began to shake beneath Angela's arms, Kyle's mouth moving slowly. He gave a small cough, causing light spasms to run through his remaining body, but his eyes still remained unopened. His eyes then squinted as he started to gain life and movement. Angela let out a breath of small relief and smiled slightly as Kyle's breathing returned to normal. His eyes fluttered open to show his moss green iris'. His vision was a blur but he knew where about he was and that Angela was staring down from above him. "Angela.." he smiled, "It's nice.. to see you.. again. I'm still very sorry.. but I hope.. you can try.. to forgive me.." Angela pulled Kyle close, hugging him with arms wrapped around him. "Kyle.. I'm the one that should be sorry.. and I am.. and I forgive you.." Angela sighed, "You will be alright won't you?.. What about Ashley and the cats?.. They're all right aren't they?.." Kyle smiled, his eyes glinting. "They're fine.. they're safe now.. and I should be fine.. now that.. now that I can be in peace.. now I've been forgiven.." Tears started to collect at Angela's eyes. "No. Your not going to leave me are you? I need you.. your all the company I have now.." Kyle looked up at her with eyes soft and comforting. "It's not.. my choice.. to make.. but if you are stuck.. with me.. you have a poor excuse.. for company.." he gasped, his words still briefly intervened by short breaths, "I just need.. to let you know.. I've been set on you.. since the day we met.. and your the only one.. I've ever let get close.. to any injury.. I've ever had. And I love you Angela.." Angela hugged Kyle even tighter, her eyes now closed, and whispered in his ear, "I love you too.." She buried her face his warm, black clothing and together they slept deeply until the next morning, the last taste of daylight Angela would ever see..

Jamie was sitting beside Angela, his grin huge and healthy. He stood up from the fresh grass and chased a small child around, laughing hard. The little girl turned to face him and scampered towards Henry, her silver eyes filled with excitement and joy. Jamie walked backwards quickly and the young girl decided to give chase, tumbling after him playfully. The girls hair was blonde, her pigtail bouncing up and down as she strode. She wore a frilled blue floral dress that blew lightly in the breeze. Under blue pumps she had on light pink socks that were rolled over at the top. Her name was Ashley. Ashley and Jamie continued to play until worn out, but neither stopped laughing. The two then collapsed to lie down on the plush, soft grass next to Angela. Jamie tilted his head to look up at her, his laughing continuing as she leaned forward and rubbed at his head, messing up his chocolate hair playfully into a scruffy bush-like mess. Angela then leaned into the figure next to her. Graham. He beamed down at her, his coffee coloured eyes full of love and affection, then down at their son. Beside the couple sat another; Ashley and James. Their forms merged as one as they cuddled close, watching their daughter laugh and play with Jamie. A bright blue sky hung above them, no longer torn.

The two figures of Adam and Kyle appeared, at the bottom of the hill, one carrying a picnic basket and the other holding a red and white blanket under his arm. When they got to the top of the hill and approached them Angela could see they were both smiling wildly. Adam laid the mat down, then Kyle set the picnic basket down beside it. They both sat next to it, Kyle leaning back to lie down. Reaching inside Adam pulled out an assortment of delicious food and treats. He then signaled for everyone to help themselves and the large group opposite them descended towards the blanket. The group sat in a circle, all facing in to eye at the tasty morsels waiting for them. Angela sat between Graham and Adam, who sat beside Kyle. Kyle positioned himself beside Ashley and James who sat next to little Ashley. Beside little Ashley was Jamie and Jamie sat next to Graham. The circle was small, but full of both love and friendship. Each were friends with each other in what seemed like this perfect world. Together they shared the glorious picnic, basking in the sunshine and birdsong. This was definitely a dream, Angela told herself, but she didn't want to ever wake up. Everyone she cared about was here and back in the realness of the cage in which she slept she only had Kyle. This was, to Angela, a blessing. She still had someone who cared about her, and honestly she cared for him too. But she had him here too, along with everyone else. Soon the brightness faded and the dream melted away with it. She woke up to feel Kyle's rhythmic breathing, his chest rising and falling beside her. Although she did not know it, this was an important day. This was the day she died..
