The diary of an Evaccuee

The story of an evacuee in the second world war.

1. Just leaving

2nd September 1939 Dear Diary,  Today was the best day of my life.  First thing in the morning, I woke up and whispered to myself “Today is the day”.  I felt like I was going to explode!  Mum was hurrying me downstairs to eat my breakfast. I couldn’t believe it was bacon!  The last time we had bacon was my birthday!  I was hugging and kissing Mum as if this was the last time I would see her, which it nearly was. The first bite was so good, I almost fainted!  It was so good, I can’t describe it with words.  I ate the rest with glee, savouring each mouthful. When I had finished, Mum rushed me upstairs to get ready.  I got dressed and ran down the stairs; Mum was already waiting at the door.
