Freedom Isn't Only Physical(One Direction Fanfic)

Mary(also known as Mars Bars) was one of the girls you would consider popular. She had a normal life, better than the average person would--but when her father is murdered during a day at work, her mother becomes an empty shell. After a night the both regret, Mary leaves her house in search of a new life--and just so happens to run into five boys that change her life.
(Fanfic about One Direction... and a specific boy. Taken at a realistic pace(I hope). I don't own the cover image!)

24. The Beginning

Beep, beep, beep... My alarm clock blared beside my night-stand. I groaned, rubbing my eyes and turning over.

"Shut up already," I muttered, eyes still closed as I grouped along the plastic surface until I pressed the off button. Slowly sitting up, I grabbed my phone and squinted at the bright screen. I sighed lightly. No new texts. It's been about two weeks since the boys left on tour again, and I was hoping we'd keep in contact. No such luck.

And it sucks, because I've gotten really attached to those five boys. I should have expected this, anyway. No one ever stays in my life for too long. And even more-so because these are the most popular boys in the world.

Rubbing my eyes again, I quickly jumped up off my small cot and stumbled to the bathroom to wash up and get ready for work. I had gotten a jump the week before the boys left and saved up for this small, old apartment in the ghetto. It was worse than the hotel room, but it was mine, and I felt accomplished. I worked at as a waitress as Cotton Patch now. The cold breeze blew in and people traded in their summer clothes for fall clothes. The leaves hadn't begun to change yet, not that I'd know.

I lived, like I said, in the ghetto. Even the park was crummy. There was paintings on the wall (which I admired, I didn't believe it was vandalism), trash littering the ground. I won't go into much detail in my living habitat at the moment... It's not the prettiest.

I still had no car and didn't want to waste so much as a coin for transportation until I had enough money saved up to be stable, so I walked three miles to and from work everyday. I'll admit, sometimes I have a hassle with guys watching me, but none have actually done anything.

I wasn't very social at work, I hadn't made friends. I really didn't even know anyone's name. Yet. I was planning on working on that today, but something else came up...

"Mary! Go to that table, you haven't taken their order in over 10 minutes!" my boss snapped. I quickly jumped out of my trance and scuttled over. It was obviously a double-date, and they made me feel awkward with the way they were so open and whatnot with their relationships. It made me squirm, I wasn't used to obvious affection.

I scribbled down their orders and returned to the back room, clipping the order on the wire. We weren't busy right now so I hung around the back, staying away from others unless I was needed to go serve someone or take an order. For a few hours this went on, until I got a text message from my back pocket around 9 P.M.

From: Nialler and the Potatoes

"Get on Skype quick !"

I scowled, quickly clicking my fingers on the screen. My heart pounded. Why Skype? Why was this the first time I've been contacted? Oy!

From: Me

"I can't. I'm at work."

From: Nialler and the Potatoes

"Now or never !"

I looked around the everyone. Work would let out in an hour, it wasn't busy... Why not? Taking a deep breath, I ran to the bathroom and pressed 'Skype'.
