Up All Night

Cara's a Directioner. She's one of the minority that won't freak out when she meets One Direction. And that's what makes one of the boys fall for her. But their love story isn't going to always be perfect. That's what makes them real and ready to stay up all night for each other.

7. Same Mistakes~Cara

I just finished my sophomore year of college, but I’m staying in Minnesota for the summer.  I have a job at an animal shelter, and Holly’s parents are letting me stay at their home.  They live in a suburb of Minneapolis, so it’ll be quite the drive to my job on the other side of St. Paul, but it’s better than renting a tiny apartment for three months.  Plus, Jonathan lives in the Twin Cities, so I’ll get to see him.

One Direction is returning to Minneapolis this weekend.  Liam sent me tickets, but I only need one, so I’m selling the other three.  He also got me a backstage pass, and I’ve decided to use it.  Liam keeps texting me, asking me to go out with him after the concert.  It’ll be late when it ends, and I really can’t decide if I should do that.  I’m not sure Jonathan would like that.  He’s already not a fan of me going to the concert alone, but he won’t come with me.

I bite my lip.  Sometimes, I’m a bit unsure about if I should be dating Jonathan.  He’s not supportive of a lot of my interests, and he’s often busy with basketball and swimming.  We’ve been dating exclusively since February, but there hasn’t really been any spark.  I felt sparks with Liam, even though I won’t admit it to anyone but myself.

As I pack up my things and get ready to move into Holly’s guest room, there’s a knock on the door.  I push wisps of hair out of my face and go to answer it.

Megan barges right past me once I’ve opened the door.

“Well, hello to you, too,” I laugh. “What’s so urgent?”

“I’ve got bad news,” she says. “And I hate to be the one to tell you.”

I close the door and sit on my bed.  “What’s wrong?”

“Remember that arts department party I went to last night?  And did you hang out with Jonathan last night?”

“Yeah, I remember, and no, I didn’t.  He said he was going out to dinner with the guys,” I reply.

“Dinner with the guys, my foot,” Megan snorts. “He was at the party.  With another girl.”

“Maybe it was his sister,” I reply. “I’m hurt he didn’t ask me to come, but Jonathan and Marissa are really close.”

Megan shakes her head.  “I wish I could say it was Marissa, but I know for a fact it wasn’t.  Cara…he kissed her several times.  My roommate, Isabelle, who was there with me, says she saw them making out at one point.”

I turn pale.  “Are you sure it was him?” I whisper.

“One hundred percent,” Megan says.  She comes and sits beside me, and then rubs my back. “I really hated having to tell you.  But I couldn’t let him get away with cheating.  I know Liam kissed you, and you kissed him back, but from what Isabelle found out, it sounds like Jonathan was dating this girl behind your back for quite some time.  I’m sorry another guy has let you down, Cara.”

I sigh.  “I’ll go talk to Jonathan later.  I’m going to break up with him.  And I need to stop making the same mistakes.”
