Summer Love

Summer hasn't thought about what happened all those years ago for a very long time, but those memories are forced back to her when her 17-year-old daughter, Darcy, needs to write a story based on something that actually happened. As these memories come back, will Summer have to re-think everything she did that summer and in the end, did she make the right choice?

Summer Love

Chapter Twenty-Three – No Looking Back

I am getting married in two days. The girls and I, as well as Noah and his friends and family have all arrived in Miami. One Direction, minus Harry, were all coming down tomorrow. I was currently home alone. My dad, Sandra, Noah and some of his friends were all out getting some final things for the wedding and the girls were getting their bridesmaids dresses fitted. I had already heard back from three of seven publishers that I had sent my book to. Two wanted my book and one didn’t, but none of the letters were from Hay House.

The mail probably already came, so I decided to go see if any more letters came. I walked outside and opened the box. Sure enough, there it was.

The letter from Hay House Publishers UK.

I was too nervous to open it. What if they rejected me? What if they thought my book was garbage?

I quickly sprinted into the house, sat down at the kitchen island and opened the letter,

Dear Ms. Summer Mason,

Hay House Publishers UK has received the submission of your novel, A Choice To Make and we must admit, we quite enjoyed it. Hay House Publishers UK would love to publish your book.

You are required to come to London for meetings, book tours and other tasks before and during the publishing of your book. HHPUK will pay for a flat for you to live in.

If you accept, please email us at and we will send you flight information.

Thank you,

Hay House

Oh my god. They want me. Hay House Publishers UK wants to publish my book. This is perfect… well almost. They want me to move to London? I mean, they didn’t say how long, but if they are going to pay for a flat, it must be for a while. I want to accept, but if I am getting married, I guess this is something I should discuss with Noah.

I heard the door open,
“Hey babe! I’m home!!!” I heard Noah call.

“In here!” I replied and he instantly strides into the room.

“What’s up?”

“Um…” I began, hiding the letter behind me. I guess it’s best to talk about it now, “So, when we get married, where do you want to live?”

“Hm, I think it would be nice to live in a small town, ye know? Good for raising a family.”
“Well, yea, but I more meant where? Like what state… or country?”

“Well, I defiantly don’t want to leave the country. I think it’d be hard to be that far away from our family, plus moving to another country would be hard, ye know? We would have to get visas and citizenships and all that crap.”

“What if say, work, moved us?” I asked

“Then honestly, I think that the job should be rejected because it could be hard and cause problems.”

“Oh.” was all I was able to say. So he was really against moving to London. I let out a sigh and walked up into the kitchen with the letter with me, threw the letter in the garbage and walked out. I will accept another publishing offer. I just can’t believe I was that close to my dream come true, but there and then it was destroyed. I love Noah though, and we will have our own dreams together

**Wedding Day**

Someone knocked on my door,

“Can I come in?” a familiar British accent asked.

“Yup, come on in Lou.”

Louis walked into my bedroom and sat on the bed beside me, “You almost ready?”

“Yea, I’m almost ready.”
“Are you nervous?” he asked

“A little. Is there something you need Louis?”

“Um, well… I… uh… I just want to make sure you are 100% sure you want to do this.”

“Because though Harry said he was totally fine, he defiantly wasn’t ready for this to happen.”

“Yea. Look, Noah seems like a good guy, but he just, he doesn’t love you like Harry does and I know that you don’t love Noah as much as you loved Harry.” He said.

“Louis, you’re right. I don’t love Noah as much as I loved Harry, but I LOVED Harry, I don’t currently love him and I want to marry Noah.”

“There is something wrong in your voice. I can hear it.”
“It’s nothing.”
“Summer, its Louis you are talking to, remember? Just tell me.”

I let out a deep sigh, “Hay House Publishers wanted me, but they need me to move to London and Noah didn’t want to-”

“Wait,” Lou cut me off, “he told you he didn’t want you to chase your dream?”
“No, I didn’t tell him about the publisher, I just asked him about moving to another country and he said that he didn’t want to.”
“Oh… well, honestly, if I were you, I’d go live my dream before getting married. But I only think I’m saying it because I don’t want you getting married.”

I was about to respond when I heard a knock at the door and I saw Noah poke his head in,

“Hey Louis, can I talk to Summer alone for a sec?” he asked

“Sure.” Louis said and got up. Noah came and took Louis’ place beside me. Louis closed the door behind him.

“Are you sure you want to marry me?” Noah started the conversation.

“Wha- why would you ask that?”

“Because I think there is something else you want to do.”
“And what is that?” I asked.

“You want to move to London and publish your book.”

“How did you find out?”
“I found the letter in the garbage and I want you to do this.”
“What about us?”

“Look babe, we are still young. We still have lots of time to go and chase our dreams.”

“So today we aren’t getting married.” He said.

“No, no, no, why the hell would you say that?” I almost screamed.

“Because you know in your heart that you don’t want to marry me, or at least you aren’t 100% sure.”

“So? No one is ever 100% sure. Is it that you just don’t want to marry me?”
He let out a laugh, “No. I want to marry you more than anything, but keeping you from your dream? That is something I would never do.”
“But-” I started, but he cut me off,

“But nothing.”
“So are we breaking up?” I asked

I noticed we were both crying now and he choked a little on his words as he said, “Yes. But only for now, if we are meant to be together, then at some point, we are going to be together.”

“I love you so much.” I cried.

“I love you too.” Noah said and pulled me in for a hug. We sat there and cried for a moment in each other’s arms then I finally pulled away,

“So what now?” I asked

“You change out of your wedding dress and go downstairs, get in a cab and go to the airport and go to London. Now.”

“But what about my stuff?”

“I already packed a bag for you. I also replied to Hay House and they sent me flight information for you.”

“Are you sure that you’re okay with this?” I asked

“Defiantly. I will miss you a ton and I’m sad to see you go, but I want you to live out your dreams before you get married.”

“You could always come too.” I offered

He just shook his head, “Nope, London isn’t the place for me. I’m going to stay in New York. Now let’s go. The cab is waiting. I will tell everyone that the wedding is off.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

We walked down the stairs in silence and when we got to the front door, Noah turned to face me. He leaned down and we shared a long passionate kiss, and though the thought made me sad, I had a feeling this would be our last. When we pulled away, he smiled at me,

“Make sure to send me a signed copy of your book. It’ll be worth more when I sell it.”

I playfully hit him on the arm, “Hey!”

“Kidding. I love you so much Summer and I am so proud of you.” He said with a sad smile.

“I love you too Noah. You were so good to me. I defiantly didn’t deserve it.”

“No, you defiantly did, but I’m not going to start a fight with you. You have to go or you will miss your plane. I love you, I will miss you and good luck in London.”

I couldn’t respond because I was crying to hard, so I just smiled, gave him a hug and I kiss on the cheek, grabbed my suitcase, got in the cab and didn’t look back.
