6. Zayn's POV 3

She's gorgeous. Even when she's in pain, a man can't help but fall in love with her. But I don't want to take it there yet. After all, we just met, and I don't see us like that anytime soon.

I let her put all her weight onto me as I helped her down the sidewalks. Cassidy did nothing wrong to be hit like that. I felt like a hero, but at the same time, I felt like I let him hit her. If I never left the library, this would have never happened. But then again, I would have never had her in my arms at this moment if I had stayed.

I was careful to watch over my shoulder and watch in the shadows as I helped her along. If Mike or Shaq were waiting to pounce, they would have to get through me if they wanted to hurt her. I doubt they would want to hurt her though, as I was the one who had punched Mike. But it didn't matter now. Cassidy was my top priority, and to get her to my apartment safe was most important.

Once we got into my apartment, I sat her on the couch. I plopped down right next to her. I did this because when Ii was little, when someone sat next to me I felt safer. I asked her if she felt better or needed anything, like an ice pack. Her sparkling eyes looked up at me in such pain and grief, I felt an instant rush of sorrow course through my body. She hesitated before she answered. "An ice pack is fine, thanks." She was still playing hard to get. I smiled and took off into the kitchen.

Man, this is crazy. I thought to myself. I don't know what would happen if I were to let her down. I opened the freezer and grabbed an ice pack. I tossed it in the air and caught it before walking back to the living room. "I hope this helps," I whispered towards her. She held it on her cheek and I placed my hand gently over the top of hers.

"Thanks, you've been a great help." She said sweetly with a cute smile. It was the first time she really smiled and meant it. I put my arm around her shoulder and gently pulled her closer. She just went with it and rested her head on my shoulder and slowly drifted to sleep. She needed it from a day like today. For a moment, everything was perfect.

Then, disaster struck again.
