*Chapters 1-12 are switching POVs, the rest are Cassidy unless it says differently.*

27. Chapter 26

We opened her door and an apartment very similar to mine welcomed us. She sat down on the couch and I sat a cushion over. I still wasn't fully comfortable with her, and I could tell she was still sort of frightened by my bad boy appearance. We sat in an awkward silence for a good ten minutes as I scanned her apartment.

"So," She finally said, breaking the silence. "What's bothering you?" She sat comfortably with her hands folded in her lap.

"Cassidy's in the hospital." I managed to say after a few deep breaths and a hard swallow.

Her mouth fell open. "What?" She asked in disbelief. "I was just talking to her before though?"

"I know," I sighed, starting to cry again. "it was an old friend of mine. He hurt her. His name was Mike." I threw my head in my hands. Carissa slid over and gently wrapped her arm around me. Her arm was warm and comforting, and I gave in a eased up onto her shoulder. She put her head on top of mine.

"It's okay Zayn." She said reassuringly. "I know there's nothing you could do about it now, but it's sweet you're so worried about her. She'll be fine." I could tell she was nervous for Cassidy too, her arm was slightly shaking.

"You don't know that." I whined. "Not even the doctors know if she'll make it. Mike really messed her up, and he's going to pay." I cracked my knuckles as I picked my head up. Her arm was still around me.

"Stop thinking like that!" Carissa got defensive. "You need to stay positive, or else the smallest thing will set you off."

"I'm scared of myself." I admitted. "I'm scared I will hurt myself if I don't do something about Mike."

"I'm not scared of you." She whispered. She put her hand on my cheek and moved her face close to mine. I pulled away.

"No." I raised my voice, the color drained from my face. "I can't do that. You wouldn't do that." I shook my head and got off the couch. "I think I'll..I'll go back to the umm.. the hospital." I stuttered, walking out of the house.

"Let me come with!" She yelled over. "I'll drive you!" She offered, picking up her keys.

"Whatever." I growled. "Just stay away from me." I said angrily. "You're just going to cause trouble if you do anything to me, I can just see it happening." I raised my voice as I stepped in the car.

"Alright, just calm down." She said aggravated as she put the key into the ignition. "We can sort this out," She started. I cut her off.

"Just drive." I fell backwards and pushed myself against the seat, allowing a heavy sigh to escape my mouth. She rolled her eyes and concentrated on her hands and the road. I blocked out all the other noise when I popped my headphones into my ears. There, I entered a world of my own. A world that only me and Cassidy shared.

I slipped my headphones into my pocket as we pulled into the hospital parking lot. We entered through the main lobby doors. A lady I never saw before was at the front desk.

"Hello, sir. How may I help you?" She asked, not making any eye contact with me or Carissa.

"Cassidy Holt." I said coldly. She scribbled down on her clipboard and pushed her glasses higher up so they were resting on the bridge of her nose. She moved her short red hair off her cheeks and looked up at me with sparkling green eyes that seemed to pierce straight through you. She stood up and clicked a button. The heavy door swung open and allowed us access into the hospital.

We walked down the long hall for what seemed like forever. We finally reached Cassidy's room, Room 19. Or, what I thought was her room. We continued walking down the hall. "Excuse me? Cassidy's room was back there?"

"No, honey. Her room is farther down this way. She was moved a little over two hours ago according to her records." We walked farther until we reached a doorway with a hanging sign above it. 'Psychiatric Unit'.

"No. She can't be in there." I froze in the doorway. Above me were people with such low mental capabilities and mental illnesses that it made me sick to be in there. People acting like animals, jumping on tables and chairs, making strange noises I never heard before. I grasped both edges of the doorway as Carissa tried to push me through. "She's not in here. You're lying to me. Cassidy is perfectly fine."

"Sir. Cooperate or don't see Miss. Holt. That is my final offer." She said sharply. I gave in and Carissa held my arm tightly. I felt my hand tense up and clenched my fists. I wanted to punch something, anything..

We continued walking in the Psych Unit until we reached room 15P. I'm guessing it stood for psychiatric. I shuddered at the thought.

"It seems her room is locked right now. However, I will allow you to look through the window." The nurse stood on her tiptoes to see what was going on. She moved out of the way and I peeked through. I felt my stomach drop at the sight. Cassidy, MY beautiful, perfect Cassidy, was strapped down in the bed around her midsection, flailing her arms and legs so wildly that four male nurses had to keep her down. I heard her screams each time a nurse touched her.

"Get me out of here!" Was the only muffled sound I heard from the tightly locked room.

"I can't take it anymore!" I shouted angrily, placing both hands on the cold metal handle and turning it violently. "Why won't this door just open already?" I screamed as sweat started pouring down my forehead. I felt the nurse and Carissa grab my waist to hold me back, along with Cassidy's screams suddenly stopping. I stopped pulling and shook their hands off me. I put my ear against the door. "Cassidy? Are you alright? Cassidy!" I yelled again.

"Zayn!" She yelled happily. I heard a faint whisper going around the room and one of the male nurses yelled.

"Only Ms. Holt's boyfriend is allowed to come in at this time." He said calmly. I heard the lock click and I slid through the tiny opening. "You must not make any physical contact with Ms. Holt as she is under strict surveillance and monitoring." I sighed and sadly nodded my head.

"Cassidy." I said, forcing the smile back onto my face. "What happened, my love?"

"I'm honestly not sure." She shook her head. "My body doesn't hurt any more though." She smiled faintly. Ii could tell at that moment, she was clueless. A nurse looked down and slowly shook her head. Tears came into my eyes and I forced them back. Not here, not now. The male nurse that called me in pulled me to the back corner of the room as Cassidy twirled her hair.

"Sir, we have some bad news. Ms. Holt has multiple serious head injuries. I can reassure she will most likely fine, but she may have  some mental difficulties ranging anywhere from slight to major. She was hit pretty hard, and I'm sorry to say that things may never be normal again." His words danced in my mind like an echo in an empty room. I felt light headed and dizzy, as if my whole world suddenly fell apart in one night.
