Why not us?

A story of how four friends spend their summer apart.

40. Isabella.

"Where are we?" Isabella giggled.

Eddy laughed and refused to tell her, his hands over her eyes as he lead her along. It felt like she was walking on grass and she was definitely outside. Eventually, they had apparently arrived and Eddy let her look around.

They were at Clumser, at Eddy's special spot. They hadn't been at night time before. It was dark but there was a glow from the moon and there were a few fireflies floating around. She smiled at him, blushing.

"What are we doing here?" she asked. "I mean, it's beautiful, but what are we here for?"

"Well, the last time we climbed trees, it was a disaster." they both laughed at the memory. "So let's do it again."

She raised an eyebrow. "Ed, I don't know, it's dark and slippery and-"

"It'll be fine! Go on, that one we went on last time!" he grinned, enthusiastically.

Isabella frowned at his enthusiasm but laughed, shaking her head and began climbing. She climbed up to where he'd engraved their initials to see that there was something stuck to the tree by the carving. It was an envelope. She frowned curiously, holding it in her hands as Eddy caught up to her.

"Open it then!" he encouraged her.

She did, her hands shaking, and inside was what she'd been dreaming of seeing since she was younger. Taylor Swift tickets. However juvenile it sounded, they meant the world to her. All she wanted was to go to that concert and experience the concert of someone who meant so much to her but she never dreamed it would happen. And now she was going with Eddy. She was speechless for a moment and Eddy chuckled.

"You happy?"

"Obviously!" she said, trying not to cry. "Eddy, how did you do this? It must have cost you a fortune!"

He shrugged, smiling at her happiness. "I've been working over time for a while to afford it, it's all okay."

Happiness overwhelmed her as she pulled him into a tight hug and said "I love you."

It went silent and Isabella cringed. She hadn't meant to say it, she was just so overwhelmed with happiness about the whole situation and now she'd messed everything up. It wasn't a lie, she did love him, but she didn't want to say it. What if he didn't feel the same way?

He pulled away, looking at her seriously and Isabella's stomach clenched and then he grinned and everything felt okay.

"Really?" he asked.

Isabella laughed. "I guess so, yeah."

"Well." he took her hand in his, glancing down and then smiling at her. "I love you too, Iz."
