17. Duet

Zayn’s POV

I brushed through my hair one last time and then I clomped down the long staircase. To my surprise, I saw Paul and the boys sitting on the couch, chatting intensely.

“…We need someone who is willing to do a duet since-“ Paul began to say.

“Usher bailed?” I questioned, plopping down next to Niall.

“He didn’t bail, he sprained his ankle recently,” Paul replied.

“Oh,” I replied, disappointed. Paul, the boys and I sat down trying to contact available stars and yet we had no luck. Suddenly, an idea popped into my head.

“Hey guys, I have an idea,” I exclaimed.

“WHAT?” the boys and Paul screamed in union.

“Aria could do a duet with us, she has an amazing voice,” I said.

“Why don’t you call her over?” Paul asked.

“Okay,” I said, dialing up Aria’s number. The phone rang in my ear until finally Aria picked up.

“Hey Aria, can you meet me at my house?” I asked.

“Um, sure, but Victoria is over so I will have to bring her,” Aria replied.

“See you in a minute then,” I replied hanging up the phone.

“She’s coming,” I told Paul. After only a few minutes, I heard the doorbell ring. I quickly rushed over to the door and let Aria and Victoria inside. Paul immediately introduced himself and asked Aria if she was interested in singing a duet with one direction.

“Zayn, can I talk to you,” Aria asked me.

“Um, sure?” I replied, dragging her into another room.

“Zayn, I don’t think I can do this,” Aria said.

“Why?” I said. “You have an amazing voice,” I finished.

“Because…you are the only who has really heard me sing,” Aria murmured.

“I get it, but I think you would do great,” I said.

“Okay, fine, I will do it, but only if Victoria can too,” Aria replied.

“Deal,” I said, smiling. Aria and I walked back into the room, hand in hand.

“I will do it,” Aria said to Paul, “But my friend can also sing,” Aria finished.

“Perfect!” Paul said. Victoria shot Aria a smile and all of us walked towards our cars to drive to the recording studio.

Time Pass

“…And let me kiss you,” we all finished singing.

“Great Job!” Paul said, high fiving all of us. After we finished, I could have sworn I saw Harry and Victoria flirting. By the time we left, Harry’s arm was around Victoria and they were both giggling. I smiled over at Aria and wrapped my arm around her waist. As the boys and Paul spilled out, Aria and I stayed behind.

“Sing with me,” Aria said, “I need practice singing in front of people,” Aria finished.

“Okay, how about Stay by Rhianna?” I asked.

“Sure!” Aria replied. Aria and I walked into the recording room.

“Round and around and around and around we go

Oh now tell me now tell me now tell me now you know

Not really sure how to feel about it.

Something in the way you move

Makes me feel like I can't live without you.

It takes me all the way.

I want you to stay…” We sang in perfect harmony. I sang, looking into her eyes. As we finished the song, I heard clapping.

         “That was great!” Paul said.

         “Thanks,” Aria and I replied.

“Would it be okay if I recorded this?” Paul asked. I glanced at Aria and she nodded.

“Yeah,” I replied to Paul. I smiled over at Aria and once again, we began to sing as Paul recorded.
