Broken But Still Sparkling

There's a story behind every person. There's a reason they are the way they are. They aren't just like that because they want to. Something in the past created them, and sometimes it's impossible to fix them. Aria is still grieving after her sister's painful death. When Zayn comes into Aria's life they immediately click, the only thing holding them back are lies, past drama and secrets.

4. Digging Up The Past

Zayn’s POV:

Aria cried into my shoulder, I could smell her strong perfume and a smile spread to my face. I softly patted her back, wondering what I should do. Suddenly, she pulled back, her eyes still glossy and she faked a smile.

“I am so sorry,” Aria said, looking guilty.

“Don’t be, It’s fine,” I replied trying to comfort her. “I don’t mean to be nosy or anything, but what’s going on?” I asked, trying to sound kind and sweet.

“Oh, um, it’s … nothing, nothing that you have to worry about… its just, well, never mind,” she stuttered out quickly.

“I won’t judge you…you can tell me anything,” I said, trying not to sound too pushy.

“No, seriously, I’m fine,” she replied back in a soft tone.

“Look I don’t mean to sound pushy but something’s wrong,” I suggested, wondering why she wouldn’t tell me.

“Zayn, what happened, it shouldn’t matter to you, and I am not sure why you even care!” she yelled back, clearly annoyed.

“I care what happened because I really like you and I want to protect you-“ I cut myself off, I couldn’t believe what I had said, the words seemed to spill out of my mouth.

“The truth is -“ she started off. “You know what, why don’t we just forget this ever happened,” she said, storming out of my bedroom.

“Aria-“ I yelled as she ran out the front door. “Aria,” I yelled again, my voice a little bit louder. Knowing she wouldn’t listen, I watched as she wiped tears from her eyes and drove away. I turned around to see the boys facing me, with their arms crossed and stern expressions clear on their faces.

“What was that?” Louis exclaimed. I explained to the boys what happened from the time she began to cry to her storming out of the house.

“Zayn, you were too pushy with her, if she wanted to tell you, she would have,” Liam said.

“You’re right, I was too nosy and pushy with her,” I replied, realizing what I did wrong.

“Besides the point, you are totally falling for her,” Niall stated with a smirk on his face.

“I am not falling for her, will you all please stop interfering with my love life?” I yelled fuming with anger.

Aria’s POV:

I pushed Zayn away; I pushed him out my life like everyone else. After Serena died I pushed everyone away, from the people who tried to comfort me to the curious people wondering what was wrong. I guess Zayn made me frustrated; the way his life was perfect and full of beautiful girlfriends and mansions. But I was also confused, why did Zayn care about me? I was a “nobody”, not even a fan. I was tempted to call him, but I couldn’t find the strength to. I sighed and worked on my write up for the Russian History Project.

Zayn’s POV:

I know it’s wrong; to snoop around trying to find answers and secrets. But for some reason, I felt obligated to find out the deep scar in Aria’s life. I logged on to Facebook and searched “Victoria Bradford,” Aria’s best friend. I looked on her profile and it listed her phone number for some odd reason. I guess it was new to me since I was a “worldwide sensation,” and posting my phone number on my profile would be a total act of idiocy. I re-entered the number on the computer screen into my iPhone and saved Victoria Bradford as a new contact. I felt anxious and almost guilty, but I pressed the call button and the phone started to ring.

“Hello?” Said a sweet voice I guessed was Victoria’s.

“Uh, hello,” I replied, my voice shaking, “It’s uh, Zayn,” I finished.

“Oh, this is Victoria…” she replied back awkwardly and confused. “May I ask why you are calling…uh Zayn?” she hesitated.

“Well I know you may not be the right um person to ask but I was just wondering about Aria,” I finished off, probably sounding like a creep.

“What about her?” Victoria questioned.

From there, I explained Harry’s awful dare to grab Aria’s butt to Aria coming over and leaving in tears. Finally I finished telling her what happened and how I was wondering what had gone wrong. Then Victoria replied.

“ The thing is, this really isn’t my place to tell, it seems if she didn’t tell you, she wouldn’t want me to,” Victoria replied. “But, I can tell you this, she got frustrated because it’s hard for her to talk about what happened,” Victoria finished off.

“Thanks so much Victoria!” I replied back, glad she had told me that much.

            “Bye Zayn,” Victoria said.

“Bye,” I replied hanging up the phone.

Aria’s POV:

“…And that is why the war started” I finished typing. I looked at my phone again, tempted to call Zayn and apologize, spilling everything. I was startled when my phone started to ring; I saw that it was Victoria so I picked up. I couldn’t believe what she said, Zayn had asked about why I suddenly burst out crying. I felt good that he cared but still angry; would he ever give up his nosiness on the subject?

“Bye Victoria,” I replied, hanging up the phone. I felt even worse about Zayn, but I was happy he didn’t totally hate me. I went outside to get the mail, hoping for a coupon to Delia’s. I sorted through the mail, when I spotted an envelope addressed to “Miss Aria Harrison.” Confused, I immediately ripped it open to see an invitation to what appeared to be a “Birthday Bash”. I looked at where the party would be hosted to read “The Home of Perrie Edwards (32 Stamford St.).” Knowing I was on the guest list for one of Perrie’s parties, I figured the whole school would be there, except for the total losers. Looking through my closet, I knew there would be nothing suitable to wear so I immediately drove to the mall.
