Life After One Direction

Hiiii! My name's Rebecca, Becca for short, I'm 17, and my father is Niall Horan. I have an older brother, Josh, who's 19, and who's dating my best friend Audrey. My boyfriend is Derek Styles, yes, Harry's son. He's my age, and has a little sister, Darcy, who's 9. Luke, Zayn's son, is dating my other best friend, Charity. They're both 17, too. Derek, Josh, and Luke are all in a boyband, just like our dads, plus Louis and Liam, who are also included in this story, along with their families too. Audrey, Charity and I are in a band, and are kinda getting known, through YouTube. We've done a mini-tour thing before and opened up once for the boys. We all work at Starbucks, which is how we met. Anywaaaaay, here you can read about my life and everything that goes on it, through the ups and downs. Sometimes it may not be very exciting, but, that's life so. Enjoy:) xx.

13. Reunited.... Almost.

Becca’s POV

I blushed as Derek said that and kissed me, realizing how cheesy he is. Just like Harry. I smiled to myself, and pulled away to give him a hug.

“You know, you’re exactly like your dad, whether you like it or not.” I told him, smiling. I felt him laugh and hug me tighter.

“Yeah? Well you’re just like your dad, too, you know.” I snapped straight up, and tried to keep a straight face.

“I resent that! How do you think that, Styles?”

“Hmm… Well, same eyes, same hair,” he said twirling a piece of my long, blond hair in his fingers, “same laugh, same smile, same love for food,” he paused and looked me in the eyes. “Same ability to love people for who they are… not what they look like, or where they came from, or how they were raised… You both love people for what’s on the inside. And that’s one of the many reasons that I love you.” This took me by surprise. That was the first time he had said ‘I love you’. And sure, we’ve been dating for a while now, but we both agreed to wait until we were completely and fully ready before saying that. I guess… He was ready. And… I think I am too.

“I love you, too, Derek.” I smiled, and he did the same. He pressed his forehead to mine and we stayed like that for what felt like an eternity before he kissed me once more.

“Eww! Mom, dad! Derek and Becca are kissing like, right in front of me and it’s kinda grossing me out,” Grace said, looking at us.

“Uh, actually, squirt, we’re BEHIND you, and why are you listening?!” Derek said, smiling.

“Hey, who are you calling squirt? I’m only 3 inches shorter than you!”

“How do you know its 3 inches?”

“Educated guess. Duh. But, I guess you wouldn’t know… You didn’t get a chance to attend Truman State University for 3 weeks and take college level classes with college students!” She practically yelled. Grace was always insanely smart for her age, and to get a chance to go to Truman State, even if it’s just for 3 weeks, is an incredible thing!

“Oh my gosh! Did you really… No way! That’s so unfair! How?! Why?!” Derek kept asking her all these questions. Truman State was a good college, one that Derek had thought about attending for some time, so I can understand how he’d be a little jealous.

“Uh, yes way, and because of my end of course exam scores from last year! I got 97% on the entire test!” She squealed, bouncing in her seat with joy.

“That’s amazing! Congratulations!” I hugged her.

“I know! And dad said I could actually go! It’s SO much money though!”

“How much is it?” Derek asked.

“For everything I’ll need, about 2,000 dollars.” Derek whistled in shock, and began laughing.

“You sure you wanna do that, Mr. Payno?”

“If it means my daughter getting all the education she can get, then yes.” Liam laughed. Derek laughed slightly, as Grace turned back around. We were pulling into the parking lot of the hospital when I noticed Derek getting nervous. I took his hand and kissed his cheek.

“Everything will be fine,” I whispered to him as we got out of the car. He gave me a small smile, and we began walking to the doors.

We walked to the desk, only to find, once again, Katelyn. It seems like she's the only receptionist in this entire building. And that makes me angry. Derek and I stayed behind a few feet while Liam and Danielle talked to her for what seemed like hours, and Grace walked around in circles on her phone. I couldn’t help but notice Katelyn giving me mean stares, each time Derek tightening his grip on my waist until it almost hurt.

“Here you go, sir,” I heard her say to Liam, “Room 224.”

“Thank you,” Liam kindly replied. Katelyn stared at me with evil eyes as we walked down the hallway.

“Liam, why’d you have to be so nice to her?” Derek asked, slightly annoyed with the fact that he had to look at her again.

“What do you mean? Do you two know her?” Liam asked curiously. Derek and I explained our whole encounter with her, and he completely understood.

“Well, she shouldn’t have done that, but being rude is never the answer. Kill her with kindness,” he said opening Harry’s door to find 2 nurses around his bed and the rest of the group on the far side of the room. It seemed like he was just now about to go into his surgery.

“Excuse me, but is it alright if I have a quick little chat with these two?” Harry asked the closest nurse, his question directed toward Derek and me.

“Sure, but make it quick. We need to stay on schedule.” She replied sweetly.

“Of course,” He said, as he pointed to us, telling us to sit next to him. We walked over next to him and waited for the two nurses to leave so we could have some privacy.

“Derek… I know you’re nervous… I am, too. But trust me, son, it’ll be alright. I promise you. I’ll be fine.”

“I-I know, dad… It’s just… I don’t want to risk losing you. I don’t want anything to happen,” Derek said, tears forming in his eyes.

“Derek…” I softly said, while rubbing circles on his back.

“Son, I’m going to be perfectly fine. The doctors and nurses know what they’re doing. Besides, I’m Harry Styles; man who can get hit the balls over 100 times with the craziest of things and live,” Harry said, laughing and smiling at his son, trying to cheer him up.

“Oh gosh, dad... Let’s not start that conversation, please,” Derek said, laughing.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about, but I’m just gonna go stand over here while you guys talk,” I said smiling.

“Wait, Becca,” I heard Harry say. I turned back around as my eyes met with his green ones. It then hit me how much Derek looked just like him… The curls, the eyes, the laugh, the smile, the dimples… Everything. “Derek, can I talk to Becca for a second? Alone? It won’t take long, I promise.”

“Yeah, sure, dad.”

“Alright… What’s up, Harry?”

“I need you to do me a favor. Please,” I could tell this was important by the look he had on his face.

“Yeah, sure… Anything.”

“Make sure Derek’s alright, okay? Just… Take care of him? Don’t let him get too stressed out about all of this. I don’t want him to think like he is.”

“Like what?” I asked, even though I more than knew the answer.

“Thinking that something’s going to happen to me, or that he might lose me. I don’t like hearing him talk like that.”

“Harry, I’ve tried telling him that you’ll be fine, but he just won’t listen. Those thoughts always come back to him. I don’t think he’s gonna be convinced until he sees you after the surgery, and sees that you’re just fine.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right… Just be there for him until I’m back, okay? Can you do that for me?”

“Of course, Harry! You’re like a best friend to me; I’d do anything for you and the rest of the boys and anyone else in this ‘family’,” I said, putting air quotes around the word ‘family’. He smiled and took my hand in his.

“Thank you, Becca. Thank you.” He said, smiling the biggest smile I’ve seen on his face in a while.

“No problem,” I told him, as I turned to walk to where my parents and Josh were sitting. I meant everything I said to Harry… I WOULD do anything for them, especially Harry. He’s always been there for me and my family, and I feel like I’ve always been there for them.

“Becca? What did Harry say to you?” My dad asked me, standing up as soon as he saw me. I thought about whether or not to tell him what Haz had really said, but before I could make a decision, words were already coming out of my mouth. “He told me to make sure that Derek doesn’t keep freaking out about the whole situation like he has been lately. I told him I would, and that I’d do anything for him and the other boys. Or anyone in this whole group.”

He seemed happy with that, and then he and the boys went to give Harry one last hug and reassuring smiles. I watched them share a few more laughs and smiles, as the nurses told them it was time for the surgery.

“Excuse me? I’m sorry, but we’ve got to stay on schedule. Are you ready, Mr. Styles?” the tall nurse said. She had blond hair and blue eyes. She seemed to be about my height, if she took off those high-heels she was wearing.

“Oh, I suppose I’m about as ready as I’ll ever be,” Harry laughed slightly. “Derek?” He said as he was wheeled past Derek and me.

“Yeah, dad?” Derek replied shakily.

“Don’t worry, okay? It’ll be alright. You should go visit Luke or something to get your mind off of this.”

“Yeah… Alright, dad. I’ll see you soon,” Derek said, as he grabbed my hand while watching his dad being wheeled down the hallway and out of sight. We told the others that we were going to visit Luke for a while, and we walked the short distance to his room.

“Luke? Are you awake?” I asked as we entered his room.

“Hmm?” We heard him mumble.

“Hey, man,” Derek said as he gave his best friend a pat on the shoulder.

“Hey, Derek. What’s up? How’s your dad?”

“He just left for his surgery.”

“Oh…” there was a pause before he spoke again, “Hey Becca! How’ve you been?”

“Good, Luke. Pretty good… Charity says hi and that she loves you,” I told him with a smile plastered on my face.

“Really? Well tell her I said hi and that I love her, too.”

“I will,” I laughed. I heard my phone start to ring, so I went to the corner and looked at the caller ID. Nick… There’s no way… How did he get my number? I’ve had it changed since we broke up… Which was almost 2 years ago? I hesitantly answered, making sure Derek or Luke didn’t hear.

“What do you want?”

“Rebecca? Is that you? Oh gosh, okay first of all I just want to say I’m sor-“

“Nick, shut up. What. Do. You. Want?”

“Okay, fine. You obviously don’t want to talk to me, but this is an emergency. I know you and my sister have always been close, but something happened,” he drifted off. I started to get nervous; Hannah and I were always like best friends, so I can’t imagine what could’ve happened.

“What? What happened? Is she alright?”

“Well, see that’s the thing… Uhm… She kinda…”

“Nick! Tell me what happened or I’m hanging up!” I knew I wouldn’t really hang up; I was too anxious to know what happened.

“Alright! She got in a car accident earlier today… The paramedics said she’s fine, but she broke her ankle, and got a scratch on her head. Nothing TOO serious, but I just thought you’d like to know… I guess I’ll leave you alone now. Oh, and Becca?”

I paused before answering, “What?”

“I’m sorry. I really am. I shouldn’t have done what I did… I’m sorry. I hope he treats you better than I ever did.” I could tell he was sincere with his words by his tone. I felt tears forming in my eyes, but squeezed my eyes shut to stop them from pouring onto my cheeks. “Goodbye, Becca.”

“Wait! Nick! Uhm… Maybe we could just talk it out? I mean, you and I both know we won’t get back together, but maybe a friendship?”

“Sure. Alright, yeah. How about… lunch tomorrow? Mexican? I know it’s your favorite.”

I laughed slightly before replying, “I’d love to, but I can’t tomorrow. I’m going with Derek and some friends to watch someone audition for America’s Got Talent. But I’m free Thursday.”

“Alright. Thursday it is, then. See you then, Becca.” He said before hanging up.

“Yeah… See you soon, Nick.”
