Life After One Direction

Hiiii! My name's Rebecca, Becca for short, I'm 17, and my father is Niall Horan. I have an older brother, Josh, who's 19, and who's dating my best friend Audrey. My boyfriend is Derek Styles, yes, Harry's son. He's my age, and has a little sister, Darcy, who's 9. Luke, Zayn's son, is dating my other best friend, Charity. They're both 17, too. Derek, Josh, and Luke are all in a boyband, just like our dads, plus Louis and Liam, who are also included in this story, along with their families too. Audrey, Charity and I are in a band, and are kinda getting known, through YouTube. We've done a mini-tour thing before and opened up once for the boys. We all work at Starbucks, which is how we met. Anywaaaaay, here you can read about my life and everything that goes on it, through the ups and downs. Sometimes it may not be very exciting, but, that's life so. Enjoy:) xx.

5. America's Got Talent

“Hmm… Right leg broken, right wrist fractured, Mr. Malik. Just a few weeks with your leg in a cast, and your wrist bandaged, and you should be good as new!” The doctor said, a little too happy about the situation.

“Alright… I guess I kinda have, to don’t I?” Luke said, more as a statement than a question, “Does that mean I can’t play guitar for my band?”

“That’s it! I thought you looked familiar… But yes. I’m sorry, but while healing, you won’t be able to do much of anything.”

“I look familiar to you?”

“Uhm, yes. My daughter’s a huge fan of you boys. Her dream is to see you in concert and meet you all. Whereas, I know who your fathers are. I was a big fan of them, back in the day,” he said, looking at all the boys.

“Really? It’s not very often we hear about ‘Boy-Directioners’ anymore... I guess, we never really heard about them at all… They weren’t very popular, I’m guessing?”

“No,” the doctor laughed, “When I was your fathers age, about 17, 18, 19, somewhere in there, when they were getting REALLY popular in the U.S., if you liked One Direction, and you were a boy, you were considered ‘gay’. But that’s not it at all. I didn’t like their looks, because, well, I was a boy, and I wasn't gay, but I thought they had good music, and they were fun to listen to.”

“And you said your daughters a big fan of us?”

“Oh my, YES. She has your posters all over her room, she has your albums, she just… She’s obsessed.”

“Wow… Is she here?” Luke asked, getting an idea.

“Actually, she should be getting off school any minute now, and she walks here. She always- Oh! There she is!”

“Do you think I can go stand in that corner?”

“Uhm, yes, I suppose. Why tho- Oh! I get it… Yes, yes, yes! Hurry though! She’s coming!”

“Derek! Josh! Come here! Girls, stand in that corner and don’t say anything, okay?”

“Alright,” we laughed. Being girlfriends to one of the biggest boy-bands in the world, we met a lot of fans, and surprisingly, a lot of them loved us. Well, most of them. I just hope this fan did…

The doctor smiled, and then quickly got a serious look on his face as he went to the hallway to get his daughter.

“Skylar! Come here! I have something I want to show you!”

“Coming, dad!” We heard her holler back. We all stayed completely quiet, as we heard her footsteps coming quickly down the hall. Her voice made her sound about 14 or 15 years old… Typical for her to love the boys. Not that it’s a bad thing, it’s just that was their usual fan age range. Fans were usually anywhere from 12 to 19 years old, with the exceptional 4 or 5 year old, or on extremely rare occasions, the 70 or 80 year old… It was crazy, but we loved meeting them all.

“Alright Skylar… I need you to close your eyes, alright?”

“Dad… What is this?”

“Just close your eyes, honey. You’ll love it, I promise.”

She sighed, but then obeyed. He gestured for the boys to walk up behind her. They came up to her, stood directly in front of her, as her father said to her, “Alright, open up!”

“AHHHH! OH MY GOSH, OH MY- WHAT?!” She screamed. She was very loud, but very happy, as well, which made me and the girls smile.

“And one more thing, Sky. You know how you’re always talking about how much you love Rebecca, Charity, and Audrey? Well,” He gestured for us to step forward, and we did. The light from the few lamps gave off enough light for her to see that it was really us.

“Oh. My. Gosh. You’re… and you’re… and… AHHHH!” She ran up to us and gave us all hugs, then ran back to the boys and did the same. “I LOVE this, dad! I can’t believe this is really happening!”

The doctor smiled, and then said, “I’ll just leave you all alone now. I have more patients to tend to anyway,” he said, slightly laughing, and then walking out.

Skylar stood there with a huge smile plastered on her face. I found it quite amusing; as I’m sure I looked the same when I met my favorite band, Emblem3. Although, Emblem3 are my father’s age, I really loved their music and thought they were very talented.

“So, how old are you, love?” Josh asked her.

“Uhm… Uh… 15.” She managed to say.

“And your dad told us you were a huge fan?”

“YES. Of all of you! I LOVE you guys, and I think you girls are very, very, very, gorgeous and talented!” Audrey was a very famous guitar player, so famous, she sometimes got to go on tour with the boys and play guitar with them! Charity and I were singers, and we were getting to be fairly well-known. It took us a bit by shock, because we started out just making videos on YouTube of us singing covers and uploading them, and the next thing we know, BAM. We’re having people in the street ask us for a picture or autograph. But I loved it.

“Well thank you very much!” Charity said.

“You girls are very lucky, too. I’d love to date a member of a world famous boy-band. I think it would be amazing,” she sighed, just thinking about it for a few seconds before remembering what exactly was happening.

“It’s actually hard, sometimes. Especially when you’re like me and Becca, who aren't famous singers. You have to be able to work around schedules to spend time together, and you’re always on the road. I honestly think this is the longest we’ve been able to actually spend time with them since we came home from our small tour back in December. Audrey’s only been here for about a week, but she’s enjoying being home, and since the boys are between tours right now, and since their next tour starts in California, they decided to just spend some needed quality time with us, I guess,” Charity explained.

“That’s exactly right,” Derek said, coming to my side and putting his arm around my waist, “We needed some time with our girlfriends before starting fresh. But like Charity said, since we’re starting off in California, we decided to just stay here. And, to make it better, our families came with us,” he said, looking at the other boys.

“Yeah! I heard about your dad, Derek… I’m so sorry,” Skylar said, with a sincere look on her face.

“Oh, it’s alright. He’ll be fine. He’s got a surgery on Tuesday, and then two days recovery and he’ll be good as new!”

“Well that’s good news! Hey, uhm… I know you guys get this all the time, and it must get annoying, but can I have a picture?”

“Sure, babe,” Luke said, limping over to her side, followed by the other boys.

“Do you mind taking the picture, Rebecca?” she politely asked me.

“Not at all! And you can call me Becca,” I said, smiling. I took the picture, and then she asked for one with us girls. Derek took it, and then handed her the phone.

“Thank you so much! And, I’m not sure if you get asked this a lot, or, even at all… But I've always wanted to be a singer, myself, so… Do you think I could maybe sing a little for you all and you might tell me what you think?”

“Sure! We've never had a fan sing for us… So this should be fun!” Josh said, with a huge smile on his face.

“Hey, aren't you and Becca brother and sister?”

“Yes, we are. I’ve had to put up with that little twerp since I was 3,” he said, playfully hitting my arm. Josh was 20, but I’m the more responsible one, and it’s been that way since I was about 7 years old, when Josh was always messing around; leaving his toys out around the house, and I’d pick them up and put them away. I guess it’s just stayed that way since.

“I have two older brothers; Max and Aaron, but I don’t really see them very often because they’re in the military. But I’m really proud to be their sister…” Her sentence drifted, and she smiled, and then realized what she was supposed to be doing.

“So… What are you going to be singing?” Luke asked.

“Hmmm... The A Team by Ed Sheeran.”

“Oh, yeah! We love that song! All of us do… He’s like an uncle to us… We love him,” Derek stated.

She laughed slightly, and then took in a deep breath and began to sing.

White lips, pale face

Breathing in snowflakes

Burnt lungs, sour taste

Lights gone, days end

Struggling to pay rent

Long nights, strange men

And they say she’s in the class A team, stuck in her daydreams

Been this way since 18, but lately her face seems, slowly sinking, wasting;

Crumbling like pastries, and they scream, ‘The worst things in life come free to us’.

Cause she’s just under the upper hand

Goes mad for a couple grams

And she don’t wanna go outside, tonight.

Cause in the pipe she flies to the Motherland

Or sells love to another man

It’s too cold outside

For angels to fly, Angels to fly.

As she finished the song, I felt my eyes begin to blur, and squinted to hold back the tears. That song was my all-time favorite, and she put so much emotion into it; I never wanted it to end. When she finished, she took in a deep breath, and opened her eyes. We all began to clap, and I went up and hugged her. She hugged back, tightly. I told her that I loved it and that I could’ve listened to her sing all night long.

“What?! Oh my gosh, thank you! That means the world to me!”

“You were good! I really enjoyed listening to it! Have you ever thought of auditioning for X-Factor or American Idol, or something?”

“Well, I’ve thought about it, but… I don’t know if I’d be able to do it… I get really nervous.”

“You should! Would it help if we were all there?”

“You would come?!”

“Yeah! If it means getting to hear you sing again, I’d jump from a plane!” I laughed.

“Wow… Well…. Yeah, I guess, I can audition for America’s Got Talent, I mean… I’m not old enough yet for any other talent show,” she said, thinking it over.

“What’s going on?” Derek asked.

“Skylar’s auditioning for America’s Got Talent!” I told him. He smiled, and then gave her a hug.

“I told her we might be able to go and watch her. Considering they’re holding auditions next week, and the only thing we have planned is your dad’s surgery, which I still plan on going to… But maybe like, Wednesday or Thursday?” I said glancing back and forth from Derek to Skylar.

“Yeah we could definitely do that!”

“What are we doing?” Josh asked.

“On Wednesday we’re all going to watch Skylar audition for America’s Got Talent!” I explained.

“Ooooh! That sounds like fun!” Audrey and Charity both said.

“Yeah… I’m just hoping I don’t get stage fright or anything…” Skylar said worriedly.

“You’ll be fine… Just remember to go out there and have fun!” Luke told her, giving her a slight squeeze around her shoulders for encouragement.

“Yeah! But actually, now, Skylar… If you’ll excuse us, we have to get going, and Luke has to rest up,” Derek told her.

“Alright. That’s fine! But, if you don’t mind me asking, what are you guys doing here anyway?”

“Oh, well, see… We were at Six Flags earlier, and we were all off doing our own thing, but then Charity called me and said that some random girl came by and pushed Luke off of the railing! He fell wrong, and know his right leg is broken and his right wrist is fractured,” I explained.

“Oh my gosh! Who would do that?! You better get your rest! Go, go, go! Go lie down!” She said, pushing him carefully along to the bed.

“Well, Skylar, I guess we can give you our numbers and you can call or text us on Wednesday when you’re ready to go, yeah?” Josh suggested.

“Yeah, that’s fine.”

We exchanged numbers and then left. Charity stayed behind to make sure Luke would be alright, while the rest of us went home. Josh dropped me and Derek off at my apartment, and then I’m guessing him and Audrey went back to his place.
