4. The Key of Thought

PART 4

THE KEY OF THOUGHT

QUEUE OPENING TITLES.

HARPAL: Well go you have to stop it!

THE DOCTOR: I know!

AMY: Can someone get through it?

RORY: No, the gaps are too thin.

HARPAL: Anyway, it’s too risky.

AMY: Doctor, what are you doing?

THE DOCTOR: If I can trace back the wires then I can try and disable it.

The Doctor is using the sonic and tracing the wires through walls. He shoves the wall with his shoulders and it breaks away showing lots of wiring. The Doctor begins fiddling around with them.

HARPAL: 7 minutes. We have 7 minutes to live!

THE DOCTOR: If I do this incorrectly, this whole thing could overload, and explode.

HARPAL: Then please try to do it right. I am getting a little freaked out!

AMY: It’s ok, give him some space, let him think.

HARPAL: Sorry.

THE DOCTOR: Harpal, do you have a steady hand?

HARPAL: I think.

THE DOCTOR: Come hold this wire then.

Harpal goes to the Doctor and holds a wire.

RORY: Are you ok?

AMY: Just a normal day with him.

RORY: You sound worried, are you doubting him?

AMY: A bit. He’s under pressure because he doesn’t want to let anyone, die.

RORY: But you’re worried that-

AMY: Him getting pressured might actually cause us to, die.

RORY: Don’t worry. He’s the Doctor.

AMY: Do you think we should go home? We could die tomorrow. I mean, it's hard.

RORY: Well-

THE DOCTOR: I’ve done it! Run!

Suddenly, sparks fly from the wall and the Doctor and Harpal run back ducking.

AMY: I’m worrying!

HARPAL: Get down!

The sparks stop flying and after a while the wall disappears. They laugh.

AMY: You did it! I knew you would!

HARPAL: Which way now?

THE DOCTOR: Follow me!

They all run turning round and darting down corridors.

THE DOCTOR: Not much longer!

AMY: Rory?

RORY: Yeah?

AMY: Just checking you’re with us.

HARPAL: My legs are aching.

AMY: You get used to it!

The Doctor runs into a room, which has the TARDIS in it. It has a stasis lock on it. The Doctor runs to touch it but it shoots him back.

HARPAL: I have never been so pleased to see a police box in my life! We have 5 minutes! Happiness has gone.

AMY: Doctor, there’s a stasis lock. Don’t tell me.

THE DOCTOR: I can’t get in! I can’t get in! No! Not after everything we’ve been through! No!

RORY: Oh no.

AMY: Doctor, wait! Remember the whole thing with Idris, me and Rory had to think of the words, crimson, eleven, delight, petrichor.

HARPAL: Petrichor?

RORY: The smell of dust after rain.

AMY: So if all of us think, destroy the bubble, it would work!

THE DOCTOR: The lock is too strong.

HARPAL: What about the fire you absorbed from the attack?

THE DOCTOR: You are all amazing! Everyone, think of the TARDIS using the energy and breaking the lock!

PLAY “TIME IS MOVING” S6 33

Everyone shuts their eyes and thinks of the thought, here the words echoing through their heads. Zoom to Harpal’s watch; it says 3 minutes on it and counting. After a minute or two, orange energy floods out of the TARDIS light.

FLASH TO JUDOON SHIP.

JUDOON COMMANDER: Sco! Bo! No! No! Prisoners escaping!

FLASH BACK TO THE DOCTOR AND THE OTHERS.

The energy dissolves the stasis lock and floods out.

THE DOCTOR: Absorb it back! Back!

The TARDIS takes the light back in. The friends run into the TARDIS.

HARPAL: 2 minutes!

THE DOCTOR: Everyone in!

The Doctor pulls buttons and levers and the TARDIS disappears from view.

FLASH TO JUDOON.

JUDOON COMMANDER: No! No! No!

He slams his fist against the stasis lock, and he gets electrocuted and dies.

FLASH BACK TO THE TARDIS, WHICH IS ORBITING THE ASTEROID.

HARPAL: 10,9,8,7!

AMY: Let’s go watch!

They run out the door to see the ship explode.

HARPAL: 3,2,1! Whoa!

The asteroid explodes, showering ash everywhere, the Judoon ship hovering above gets caught and explodes too.

RORY: Now that is amazing!

FLASH TO A DALEK SHIP, ORBITING MARS. IT DROPS HUMANS IN SPACESUITS ONTO THE PLANET SURFACE. ONE HUMAN TURNS AROUND AND SEE’S WATER…

QUEUE ENDING TITLES.

NEXT TIME:

HARPAL: So this is just after we minced the Gradean?

AMY: Tracker operational.

RORY: Can’t you leave him alone?

AMY: It’s just a precaution.

THE DOCTOR: It’s a signal coming from Mars.

The TARDIS materialises on Mars.

MADDIE: Is it safe?

THE DOCTOR: Have you touched the water?

They are in the TARDIS.

Maddie takes Brians hand and infects him.

They change underground.

THE DOCTOR: We must strike the Doctor’s friends.

Brian shoots down Harpal’s door.

HARPAL: Argh!

WRITERS TAKE:

This one was tough. It was hard to keep writing it. I was running out of material! This one was built on fact from other episodes. The Judoon have small brains, the TARDIS is based on thought, and stone plus gas equals a choking gas. I wanted to do an episode when my character looked like he was a fast learner too, after that pep talk.

The way Amy questions Harpal at the beginning, shows that Amy doesn’t really get him, and even though his other factors, he is quite a secretive person. Who actually hasn’t revealed that much about himself.

The ending in this episode with the humans on Mars is linked to the next episode, I like things that make you confused, its like a puzzle you have to crack…
