2. Chapter 1 - Found

The door of the jeep slammed, causing those who were not already staring at the huge monstrosity of a vehicle to turn and stare. The man stood there and dusted some dust off his shoulder, surveying the quiet suburban street he stood in. The inhabitants of the road looked away as the man, dressed in army combatives with buzz cut hair and almost impossibly well-toned muscles, walked away from the enormous army jeep he had arrived in towards the house that stood out. The one with the curtains closed in the middle of the day, the one that all the neighbours looked at with a mix of fear and suspicion on their faces.

The man knocked on the door, and it was pulled open just a fraction, the chain making it impossible for the man to see anything inside, other than the woman who had opened the door.

"Mrs. Goodward? My name is Major Davis. I'm here to see JJ."

The woman nodded, unlocking the door and pulling Major Davis inside, making sure the neighbours were not allowed even a glimpse of the interior of the house.

Once inside, Major Davis could understand why no-one could be allowed to see inside. The house looked like a tornado had hit the inside of it. The walls had been torn to pieces, anything not tied down had been thrown across the house, and it was almost impossible to walk without stepping on something that shouldn't be there.

"JJ's upstairs." said the woman.

"Excellent." Major Davis turned to the woman. "I'd prefer it if I could talk to your son alone?"

JJ's mother nodded, and Major Davis made his way up the battered and broken stairs. When he was halfway up, she spoke again, the desperation in her voice obvious.

"Can you help him?"

"I'll try."

Major Davis pushed open the only closed door upstairs to see a room that was just as chaotic as the rest of the house. On the bed, which was the only thing in the room which seemed to be in its rightful place, lay the silhouette of a boy, juggling 15 balls with ease. Major Davis wasn't sure it was a boy, because the person was moving so fast it was impossible to see more than a silhouette, but he had been briefed on what to expect.

"JJ?" Major Davis asked, but the figure didn't acknowledge his presence until at least a second after the Major had spoken. The figure got up, and wrote something on a piece of paper.

'I'm moving faster than the speed of sound. We can't exactly chat like you would with anyone else.'

Major David raised his eyebrows, and spoke again. "You are JJ then. Can you talk?"

"Of course I can talk." came the boy's voice. "But I can only hear you when I'm still. Who are you?"

"My name is Major Davis. I've come to help you."

"And how are you going to do that?"

"I come from an organisation who would be interested in using your talents. We can help you control your ability, train you to use it."

"You haven't answered my question."

"I'll need to take you to HQ. There they can help you."

"What about my mum?"

"What about me?" JJ's mum asked suspiciously, appearing behind Major Davis.

"I was telling JJ that to help him, he'll need to come and stay at my company."

"How long for?"

"Indefinitely. We don't know how long it will take for him to learn how to control this ability he's developed."

There was silence as JJ and his mother digested this information.

"We have purpose-built accommodation for you, and the facilities to both help you and understand how you developed this ability." pointed out Major Davis, and JJ nodded slowly.

"Sounds good."

"But JJ honey, indefinitely? I might not see you again!"

"Mum, you can't see me at the moment. And if I don't go, we'll never be able to live normally. I'll always be here, destroying things with my every move."

JJ's mum sighed. "Well, I guess you're right sweetie. I'll miss you. Try to keep in touch ok?"

“Of course I will mum.”

"Do you want to pack anything, JJ?" Major Davis asked.

"I already got it while you were asking." replied JJ, a hint of laughter in his voice. "Now let's go. I can't wait to slow down."

Major Davis nodded, and made his way out to the jeep, to find JJ standing outside it already.

"Big car." JJ commented. He was right. The vehicle they would be travelling in was half as big as an 18 wheeled truck, a jeep painted in camouflage colours, with tinted windows and a step into the front seat.

"You'll be travelling in the back, JJ. I don't want you breaking anything."

"Whatever." sighed JJ, and he was gone, the back door of the jeep slamming.

Major Davis smiled. One down, one to go.
