Derek is a jock, the star basketball player of Brentwood High School. Derek knows what he'll soon become, but just doesn't know when. Werewolves have been in his family for generations, and he knows he won't be able to stop it. He knows about imprinting, and knows he's just not ready for it. When he comes back to realization, he imprints on someone faster than he'd predicted. Emma.

4. Chapter 4: Emma

I run into the bathroom and lock myself in the closest stall. I sit down and pull my knees up to my chest. The dam in my eyes finally breaks and tears spill down my cheeks. Why am I always so bullied? What did I ever do to deserve it? I really didn't know what to do. I was at a loss. I am alone in the silence—the still, silent emptiness of the bathroom. I hear the door creak open and hear footsteps. "Emma." It was my best friend, Natalie. She gently taps on the bathroom stall that I'm in. I stand up quickly, swiping away the warm tears from my face. "I heard about what had happened," she whispers gently. "I'm so sorry. People are such jerks." I unlock the door to come face to face with my blonde friend. "Oh Emma," she wraps me into her tight embrace and hugs me tight. "Just a few more hours and it's the weekend," she smiles. I smile and nod back. I walk to the bathroom sink to wash my tearstained face. "Let's just get the rest of this day over with," I say as I dry my hands on a paper towel. Exiting the bathroom, we hurry to lunch.
