Imprinted

Emma was just a normal, average 16 year old girl bullied by her schoolmates. Something she wished would just stop, but has no courage to stop it. Derek is a jock, the star basketball player of Brentwood High School. Derek knows what he'll soon become, but just doesn't know when. Werewolves have been in his family for generations, and he knows he won't be able to stop it. He knows about imprinting, and knows he's just not ready for it. When he comes back to realization, he imprints on someone faster than he'd predicted. Emma.

39. Chapter 39

The following Monday Derek and I walk hand in hand to lunch. My stomach rumbles and I wince. I should've eaten breakfast this morning. Derek glances nervously at me. "Are you okay Emma?" I smile up at him. "Of course. I'm just hungry." He grins. "Well lets see if I can change that. I giggle and he kisses my forehead. "Watch the PDA!," Mr. Kingsbury calls from behind us. Immediately we separate, and after Mr. Kingsbury turns the corner, we quickly couple again. Derek leans down and whispers in my ear. "Give the guy a break. He's never had a relationship in his life." I giggle aloud.

Things were awkward as Derek ate lunch with me. Every single girl at my table were staring at Derek, including Natalie. I kick her leg gently, but firm enough to catch her attention. She jumps and looks down at her plate of chicken salad, flushing red. I lift my eyebrow at her. Relax, Em. No one's going to take me from you.
Derek knew exactly what I was thinking. I glance at him and he's smiling big. Has a little bit of jealousy gotten to you? I smack him playfully and he laughs. Finish eating your burrito. He nods. Yes mam. I look back at Natalie, her fork frozen in her hand as she was about to take a bite. The bite of salad slips off of her fork and back onto her plate but she remains still. "What is it Nat?" The look she was giving me was scaring me. "What the hell were you two doing..?" I frown. "What do you mean?" She puts her fork down. "It was as if you guys were talking to each other, but not aloud." I look at Derek and watch as his eyes widen in surprise. "Nat that's insane. I don't think anyone can do that." I shake my head, trying to cover what had just happened. She shrugs and returns to her salad. I exhale the breath I had been holding for a while now. Does she know..? This time we don't look at each other so we don't catch suspicion again. No, I don't think so. Lets hope not.
