8. Second Sacrifice

Goliath jumped up in a trice, Septimus pointed to the Sea Serpent and Diolace turned and screamed. The serpent breathed fire, but when Diolace ducked, the fire flew into the water. Goliath stuck his sword in the beast’s eye, and the snake squirmed. Septimus seized the moment to climb back aboard the rocking boat, dripping wet with fear as well as water. The Serpent turned to its tail again for defence, and swung it again, Septimus grabbed Diolace and pushed her onto the wood. The end of the sharp scales cut Goliath’s cheek and it bled. Diolace got up with a sword and tried to fight the villain, she jumped and cut the serpent’s torso, but then was pushed aside as from the balcony, and Brazeedas began shooting arrows. The arrow also flew into the serpents skin and it screamed.

“You beast!” Shouted Septimus, and only Brazeedas laughed.

Goliath got up and jumped into the water, then swam to the snake’s body and lacerated it as many times as he could, until the tail whipped him out of the water. It was now Septimus’s turn and as the sea serpent lunged toward him, he tried to stab the serpent in the other eye, but made a deep cut just below it. From behind three arrows flew into the side of the small wooden boat, Brazeedas was at it again.

“Dam it I missed!” He shouted in the distance.

“Septimus! Please be careful!” Diolace crawled across the boat to some rope. She tied it around her waist, and as she did this sea serpent struck Septimus down, and Goliath climbed aboard. Diolace whispered to disorientated Septimus:

“Pull me up” She whispered, Septimus stared at her in confusion, and then she faced the demon with a heart of fire.

“Wretched demon! It was me who you came for! It was me who you were called to devour flesh, not these two brave men, and if I was any sort of person I would shout that I was a sacrifice to you, and now me and only me, I shall end your reign of terror!” she threw the rope at Septimus who tried to grab her, but she had already through herself into the water.
