“Diolace no! Goliath, grab the rope!” Goliath was also standing leaning over the edge of the boat, they turned and saw the Serpent coming, and they darted to opposite sides, Goliath narrowly missing the rope.

“No!” Goliath shouted in pity, “Diolace!”

“Jump into the water! Do something! We can’t leave her!” screeched Septimus. The Serpent dived for Diolace, under the coiling around the ship, and crushing it, it’s mouth wide-open, teeth on show, lunging for Diolace who was drifting to the seabed. Septimus stumbled in, Goliath stumbled over. He grabbed two swords. He plunged. Hard into the serpents coils. The Serpents head flung backward out of the water and screeched, slumped and fell onto the boat which Goliath had just jumped off. Septimus pulled Diolace from the seabed to the surface. Brazeedas still perched at his balcony turned in away in rage.

“No!”

Goliath swam ashore, with Septimus behind dragging Diolace. They lay there for a minute, but then Septimus realised that Diolace wasn’t breathing.

“Diolace? Diolace! No! Diolace! Goliath! Goliath! Help me! Do something!” Goliath leant forward and tried to ressusitate her, after a while, she coughed and spluttered.

“Diolace!” Goliath and Septimus yelled in relief, “Your ok!”

“Thank you”, she breathed, “Thank you both.”
