8. Chapter 8 - Niall

I awake to hearing voices above me whispering. I open my eyes and find myself facing a tiger. At that sight, my eyes widen and i shout in alarm , jumping up from my place on the floor. I look around and see Megan in the arms of Joe staring at me confused.

"You okay, Niall?" Megan asks, sitting up from her place in her boyfriend's arms.

"Yeah, just not expecting to wake up to a tiger in my face." I explain.

"Oh, that's Azure. He's a leaving present from my Uni mates in Aberdeen." She tells me. Thundering footsteps sound outside the door before it bursts open, revealing Harry, Louis, Liam, Alfie and Charlie.

"You okay? We heard a shout." Harry says.

"Yeah, it's fine. Just saw a tiger." I report calmly. Harry, Louis and Liam shoot me confused looks while Alfie and Charlie nod and walk off. I point to the large cuddly beast that scared the wits outta me and realisation dawns on their faces. They then all wander back to the guest room, back to sleep, I'm guessing. I turn to look at my sister. "Nice to know they care." I tell her. She smiles and lies back in Joe's arms.

"Well, back to lazing til the alarm goes off." She says. I smile at her.

"You haven't changed a bit." I tell her.

"Course I haven't. Were you expecting me to?" She asks.

"No, but I figured going to University would make you want to get up earlier."

"You kidding?" Joe says. "She never gets up before her scheduled alarm goes off at... what time does it go off at?"

"Uh," Megan scrabbles for her phone which sits charging on her bedside table. She pulls the charging cord and the phone falls into her hand. She unlocks it and checks. "It goes off at 7 and then again at half past." She then chucks the phone onto the table and pulls the blanket up to her neck.

"What time is it just now?" I ask her innocently. She groans and reaches for her phone again. "Really, Megs?" She looks at me confused for a second. "You just saw the time on your phone and you've already forgotten."

"Yeah, but I wasn't paying attention to the time." She shoots back, finally grabbing her phone again. She turns it on and speaks, "It is 6:52." Then she puts her phone back and snuggles into the duvet. "Eight minutes of precious sleep."

I chuckle at her and sit down on the floor. I lift the blanket that I slept under and examine it. The edges are only slightly frayed which means that she uses it more than I use my own. Most of the blanket is made of different brightly coloured patches, each with a story to tell. I run my fingers over it and trace over a patch that has an image of a beach with a little blue dolphin jumping from the water. I immediately remember that day. It was a day when Megan almost died, almost drowned. My heart clenches as I remember.

"I remember that day." Megan's voice comes. I look up and see both Joe and Megan watching me. "You saved me." She says.

"I also almost killed you." I tell her.

"No, I was and always will be older. I shoulda known better." Megan slips from the bed and kneels next to me. "Quit blaming yourself or I'll disown you as my favourite brother." I look up at her, mock shock on my face. "That's right, Greg will be my favourite brother."

"But you hate him." I point out.

"I do not! I just don't like him as much as I like you."

"Whatever." We then fall quiet, listening to the peace.

Music breaks the silence. A song playing from Megan's iPod docks. I listen carefully and hear that I recognise it as McFly's new song, Love Is Easy.

"There's the alarm. Time to get up." She smiles. She stands up and walks to her chest of drawers. She grabs some clothes and skips out the room to, I'm guessing, the bathroom.

I turn to Joe and we both look awkwardly around the room. I walk towards Megan's chest of drawers and look at all the things she's placed on top. It looks like a shrine or collection of all the things fans might send her with packets of unopened sweets from across the world and letters and pictures stuck to the wall. I smile, glad that my sister has support from people outside the family and from people who don't know her. I go towards her desk where an iMac sits in front of the window.

Around her desk area are a couple of photo frames of her and YouTubers from all over. I spot a pink framed picture of Megan with Joe hugging her from behind. I lift the picture and examine it. Her face shows true happiness. From that simple picture, I can tell that Joe is a perfect match for Megan. A door closing causes me to turn.

Megan has reappeared, her hair damp but she's dressed in skinny jeans and white top with black sleeves which has a picture of a yellow mouse thing that I recognise as a Pokémon of some sort on the front. She smiles and sees the picture in my hands.

"One of my favourite pictures. We were all hanging out in a park and suddenly Joe jumps on me." She explains. I look over to Joe and see that he's fallen asleep again. "He's always doing that. I take a shower and when I return, he's fast asleep. He's lucky I love him." I look at her in slight surprise. She must feel my stare because she looks up at me. "What?"

"You love him?"

"Yeah." She says it like it's obvious. "I wouldn't date him if I didn't love him." She sits at the end of the bed and pulls a pair of old black converse from underneath. She pulls them on and ties the laces as I place the picture back in its place. She stands up and walks to the door. "Come on, I think there's food downstairs." She loops her arm through mine and she pulls me downstairs.

"What about Joe?"

"Eh," She says with a shrug. "He's alright, let him sleep a bit longer."

We enter the kitchen and see Alex and Carrie cooking. They're both dressed and seem to be dancing around the kitchen. Megan stops me from going any further into the kitchen and we just stand there watching them dance to the radio which is playing BBC Radio 1 in the background.

Eventually, Megan clears her throat and walks towards her friends. "Having a wee dance, are we?" She asks.

"Course." Carrie replies, smiling.

"Cool, Can I join?" Carrie nods and Megan starts dancing like a mad person. She dances over to the radio and turns the volume, making it much louder. When I feel my eardrums pound, I start laughing at my sister when she dances every embarrassing dance she can think of.

Then the boys are all behind me, watching Megan dance. Alfie and Marcus join, looking like they've just been awoken and are incredibly annoyed. Megan see as all watching her and starts dancing our dances that we did in the video diaries, like Louis' 'Stop the traffic, Let them through', 'The Sprinkler', 'Pat the dog, Screw in the light bulb', '1,2,3 flick' etc. That makes everyone laugh.

The crowd at the door gets bigger when Joe and Charlie appear from upstairs. They look over our shoulders and see the dancers. Alex suddenly turns the radio down and says "Breakfast's ready." He then passes out a big pile of plates to Megan who salutes and hands one to everyone. We form a line and Carrie and Alex serve out bacon and eggs to everyone.

Halfway through eating, Megan's phone goes off, playing Love Is Easy again. She pulls it from her pocket and checks why it's making noise then she drops her phone onto the table. Her eyes widen and she shovels the last of her egg into her mouth before leaping from her seat. We all look at her, except Carrie who continues eating normally. Megan runs out the room and upstairs. The pounding of her footsteps can be heard as she travels along the corridor. A few door slams and she's back but this time she's brushing her hair with one hand while holding a messenger bag onto her shoulder with the other.

She appears to be looking for something. She searches under magazines, on multiple counter tops and everywhere else where something could be hidden.

"Carrie." She whines, looking up from the fruit bowl on the breakfast bar. Carrie looks up from her food and points to a small plaque on the wall with 3 small hooks, two with keys hanging. "Thanks." She grabs a set of keys and then runs to Carrie, hugging her tightly from behind as she continues eating. She quickly pecks Joe's cheek before running out the house.

We all look to Carrie who's reaching across the table to grab something. "What was that about?" I ask.

"Late for uni." Carrie looks at a clock on the wall. "And three, two-" She mouths the word 'one'. The front door bursts open and Megan runs in. Carrie holds her hand up which holds Megan's phone. Megan grabs it and shouts her thanks before running out again. Carrie sighs. "Every morning. You'd think she'd eventually remember, wouldn't you?" Carrie gets up and grabs her plate along with Megan's and heads to the sink where she dumps the plates.

"Guys, we better hurry. We've got to be at the studio later to record. And I personally want to change and have a shower." Liam says.

"Me too." Zayn agrees.

"I'm alright, but if you guys want to change, I might as well too." Louis adds. Harry just nods in agreement.

"I don't really have a choice so let's go." I pick up my plate and put it by the sink, like Carrie did. The boys copy me and we say our goodbyes. Then we're all climbing into our cars and heading home where we all change and shower and freshen up before leaving almost straight away.
