I'm...different. Most people are out to kill me.
And not in the classic cat-fight way.
Like, with a knife, or gun.

Jake is my only friend.

I trust no one.

This is what the mark (#) has given me.

The group of people I belong to are hunted, killed for things we do not know. Just because you possess special powers doesn't mean you are evil, right?

I sure as heck hope not.

This is what I am.

I, Fire Rose, am an Allure.

12. Chapter Twelve

And just a little side note for reading the texts. Fire= ' Zak= "  K? K.(:

Zak's POV

I stare at the old text messages, four years waiting on my phone.

'Meet me at the cafe in an hour? I figured it out x'

"I'll see you there. x"

I sigh. I should have told her to leave. I should have told her we were being watched. I should have told her Destiny...

She's back. It's okay. None of that matters now.

Jake stirs in his sleep. I flinch and look at him rolling over. He goes right back to snoring. I let out the breath I have been holding, looking back at the dimly lit screen.

"Please tell me you're okay."

"Tay are you there!?"

"Tayllor tell me where you are."

Four days passed before I texted her again.

"Do you know who I am? Can you remember my name?"

"Please tell me where you are Tay. I'll get you out of there."

"You don't remember me do you?"

A tent zips to the left of ours. I hold my breath as it zips the second time. I look out of the little flap that's our window. It's almost dark. Where did Fire leave to? I shake the thoughts of worry out of my head. She is stronger now. She can take care of herself.

Three weeks later.

"I miss you Angel." She never responded.

A year later.

"I left the camp, can't stay with Destiny in depression and you gone. Too many memories. I really hope whoever took you kept you safe."

A year after that.

"They tell me you're dead. I don't believe them Tayllor. I know you. You are out there. I'll find you eventually."

And the last text message I left her.

"Destiny and I saw you today. You were with Jake. You were in the castle. We sent a boy after you, but he didn't do anything but help you escape. I hope you remember us, Tayllor. Tell me you still have this phone.  Please tell me someone else doesn't have it. I also figured other things out about you. It really did change you. They call you Fire because of it.

You're an Allure now, Tayllor.

And it's all my fault."

I shut off the phone and rest my head against the wall, staring at the top of the tent. There's a small flutter in my head and I sigh of relief, the flutter letting me know Fire is in range to talk.

Fire? You coming back anytime soon?

I was getting our dinner.

It's getting dark.

You aren't my mother.

And you aren't as tough as you act.

Open the zipper my hands are full.

I stand up and hold open the tent flap for her, as she walks in with a slingshot and knife in one hand, and four squirrels in the other.

"Damn." I mumble. She was only gone for a few hours. There's no way she could have caught those. My Fire wouldn't have hurt a thing.

"Here." She hands me the squirrels and walks to the wall, throwing her bag and weapons on the floor next to her as she sits. "We can make a fire when everyone goes to sleep." I sit the squirrels on a little shelf in the corner and shake mud off my hands from one of the dirtier ones. I turn to look at her, sharpening her knife slowly. She looks up, meeting my eyes. We stare at each other for a while. Not a word. Just silence. It's not an awkward silence. It's like the silence is saying all the things we need to say, without us saying them. It's saying them for us.

"Jake asleep?" I whisper. She looks at him, softly snoring.

"What do you think?"

"I mean deep sleep. Not-hear-our-conversation sleep." She looks at him again and then pokes him with her knife softly. I flinch, expecting him to wake, but he doesn't move at all.

"Yup." I shake my head and walk around him to sit next to her against the wall. It's quiet for a while, just the sound of her sharpening her knife. "You have a cellphone?" I nod. "Me too." I look at her. She could see those texts I sent, and she never said anything back? "I just got it last month. Geo gave it to me as a birthday present. Said it would keep my loyalty to him even stronger. He also said someone might text me on it. Someone I didn't know. And if that happened, I wasn't aloud to respond." I stare at my hands. If it's the same phone, she saw the message about the castle. "I got a text a few weeks later." She sets her knife down and looks at me. "Someone sent a boy after me. He saved our lives. And they knew Destiny. And they were talking about someone named Tayllor. And how they mixed her up with me. I must have looked like her. They said she was an Allure. They said it was their-"

"Fault." I look up, meeting her eyes.

"How did y-"

"It was me." She narrows her eyes.

"What? How did you-"

"That's the cellphone you had before he took you from the hospital. That's the phone you used to text me with." She looks down at her backpack. After a few seconds, she reaches for it, unzipping it and pulling out the cellphone. I stare at it, dirty, screen barely lit when she turns it on.

"It was you who helped us." She mumbles. I look back at my hands. "Did you send me messages before that? Do you think they would help me get my memory back if I looked over them?" I just keep staring at my hands, not trusting myself to form words. "Zak?" I stay silent, but look at her. She stares at the phone in awe, running her hands over the smooth surface like it's gold. I finally trust myself to say the words.

"You've never looked at your past messages?"

"Geo said if I did, he would find out and send Demietree to kill me. I believed him." I look at her turning it in her hands. I reach out and take her hands in mine, slowly taking the phone out of her grasp. I unlock it and go to her messages. I look at the conversations she has titled. They are listed from most to least responded to.

Mr. Ni (Math Tutor) :P

I chuckle at all her little symbols for everyone as I scroll through her list of friends. Some I recognize, some I haven't seen in years. Some I never met. At the very bottom I run into this:

Baby<3x :* :)

I hesitate,  my thumb over the name, not wanting her to see it, but wanting to look at our old conversations, knowing she never deleted her texts.

"Who's baby?" I look at Fire, reading over my shoulder. She looks up at me. I grin and kiss her cheek softly and slowly, just how I remember she liked it. She shudders, telling me I remembered right.

"That would be me, Lady Fire." I whisper in her ear. She pushes me away. I smile again and she pokes my dimple.

Jake rolls over and groans again. We both jump, holding still until he stops. While I'm staring at Jake, she grabs the phone out of my hand.

"It's mine! And I want to see what's on here! Memory refresher!" We are both standing up, ready to pounce on one another any second.

"Fire, don't."

"Why not? Too scared It will tell me some secrets? Well guess what, Mr. Zak, that's exactly what I'm looking for." She sprints out of the tent. I chase after her, jumping over Jake in the process. He groans. Fire runs towards the woods. I follow the sound of her footsteps in the pitch black.

Soon they are gone. She was always a faster runner, that much is true. I look around, sighing and running a hand through my hair. I decide to walk back to camp, just hoping she won't find anything important. I walk for around five minutes.

Out of no where, I feel a grip on my t-shirt, and someone pushes me up against a tree trunk. I breath in and instantly know the scent. Fire. She still grips my t-shirt, her nose resting against mine, cellphone pressing against my thigh, in her front pocket. I grin.

"Haven't been this close to you in a while." I whisper. I can almost see her rolling her eyes in the darkness. "Did you read them?" She nods, her nose rubbing softly against mine, her breath heavy from running. I sigh. "What did you learn?"

"I learned how weak and girly I was." I chuckle a bit. "I learned my favorite color was green, because it was the color of your eyes. I know what happened at the cafe." I gulp a bit. "I know where I got 'No fear no worries'. And I know..." Her lips brush against mine as she speaks the last five words. "I know what you are." She kisses me softly. I instantly feel goosebumps run up and down my arms. My fingertips brush up her arms, which moved down to my chest. She pulls away when I reach her hands, lacing our fingers and putting my forehead against hers.

"And you're not afraid?"

"No fear, no worries." I smile and kiss her one more time, wrapping my arms around her back, her arms lacing at the back of my neck. I pull away and she rests her head against my chest. I pull her close and sigh.

"Do you know how much I missed you?" I mumble into her hair. She shakes her head.

"I just have one question." She pulls away. I raise an eyebrow. "Why don't you posess people?"

"What do you mean?"

"Well. I just thought."

"I don't posess people."

"But you're..."

"It's only if I want to. Which I don't. That's stereotypical."

"So then what do Demons do?"
