34. Long Time, No See

The next morning when I woke up, I saw Harry curled up next to me. He was still passed out and half smiling and breathing slowly. I watched his chest raise up and down with every breath and it could only make me smile. I reached over and pushed the curls that had fallen all over his face throughout the night out of his face. My smile slowly faded when I realized that practice was still a thing in my life. I rolled back over, not wanting to wake Harry to drive me there but also not wanting to leave his side to actually run to get there. It was more of the fact that I really just did not want to leave his side.
“You awake?” I suddenly felt Harry’s arms make their way around my waist and pull me close to him.
“Barely…” I whispered.
“Mmm…” Harry moaned into my neck, tickling me a little and making me squirm.
“So…how much do El, Perrie, and Danielle hate me right now?”
“They think you’re scary and El is thoroughly convinced you’ve killed someone before with how hard and violent you fight in the ring.” Harry mumbled. He was clearly still half asleep so he could only half process what he was saying; so basically everything that was said to him, he would repeat back to me basically word for word.
“Killed someone?” I choked out.
“Yeah…they also think you’re hiding something like really big. I wouldn’t take it too personally though.”
“And why shouldn’t I?”
“They’re just paranoid because of my sister. You remember, I told you about her? Right; Gemma?”
“Yeah, you told me.” I started getting teary eyed, knowing I was hiding a lot from him; murder, his sister, and there was still something about Louis I knew but couldn’t quite place it. I just knew I recognized him from somewhere. But the more I thought about where I recognized Louis from, the more concerned I got because I always got a gut feeling he witnessed something really bad and I just looked too different for him to remember it was me.
“Why do you ask what they think of you?” Harry asked, snapping me back to reality.
“I just…I don’t know. I really don’t. I always just feel very uncomfortable around them.”
“You’re always uncomfortable around girls.”
“Yeah…how did you pick up on that?”
“Well, for the simple fact that you’ve only interacted with guys since I’ve met you and I’m sure it was the same beforehand.”
“I hang out with some girls!” I exclaimed.
“Okay, name one.” I was about to say Gemma, but then I stopped myself before I could say anything.
“See, you can’t think of one girl you hang out with.”
“Not true…” I said, weakly defending myself at this point.
“Mhm, whatever you say babe. Look, it’s okay that you aren’t comfortable around girls. I’m not going to force you to go on double dates and to hang out with them for girl nights. I don’t want to force you to go out of your comfort zone. I mean, I’m sure just coming to this side of town is weird enough for you.”
“Well…yeah, it is.” I whispered.
“Exactly. So…I’m not going to force anything on you. They don’t have to like you. The guys and I could care less if they like you, we all like you so it’s okay.”
“Are you sure? I mean…I feel like the girls hating me and the guys liking me could cause tension between them.”
“Babe, if there was an issue, we would’ve told you by now.” Harry whispered, pulling me back to him and kissing the back of my head. “What’s really bothering you?” I took a deep breathe knowing I had to tell him something to push this horrible feeling I had to subside at least for a little bit.
“The girls are right…” I whispered.
“What? That you murdered someone?!” Harry asked pushing me away. I sighed, trying to fight back tears. I pulled him back to me and sunk into his body.
“No…I am hiding something though.”
“Am I allowed to know…?”
“Yeah but…try not to kill me after I tell you since I’ve known this basically all along.”
“Known what?”
“You know when you told me the story about your sister, and what her name was?”
“Yeah, of course I remember.”
“Gemma isn’t dead.” I whispered after a long pause.
“Excuse me? Of course she is. Why would you say something like that?!” Harry asked, almost sounding offended. I reached for my phone and pulled up my pictures and found the most recent picture I had with Gemma, which was the fight the night before Harry and Zayn showed up at my gym.”
“She isn’t dead Harry…she’s my best friend…” I whispered.
“This…this is the day before I met you officially…this is the fight I went to with Zayn…”
“You remember the night that you came into the back room and thought someone else was in the room and I said my friend but…”
“But I couldn’t see her…” Harry finished for me, looking utterly shocked. We fell into a very uncomfortable silence and I forced my eyes shut.
“I’m sorry…” I whispered. “I’m just going to go.” I pulled myself out of Harry’s bed and he slowly pulled himself into a sitting position with a look of shock on his face. I grabbed what little clothes I had, and walked out.

Gemma isn’t dead…
“Hey Haz, Bethany…” Niall said, walking in after knocking. “Wait, where’s Bethany?”
“She went home.” I whispered.
“Why? I thought she was playing hooky from practice today?”
“No…it was probably a good thing she left.”
“What are you talking about?” Niall asked, sounding confused. I paused, still in shock. “Harry?” Niall slowly started walking closer to me before sitting on the edge of my bed. “What exactly happened?”
“She told me my sister isn’t dead…” I finally whispered.
“Of course she is; we went to her funeral.”
“She isn’t dead. She showed me proof that she isn’t dead Niall.”

“Gemma, get your fucking ass out of here.” I demanded when I got to her quote on quote house.”
“What happened?!” Gem asked, sounding confused.
“You need to come with me.” I demanded. Gemma nodded and followed me. I dragged her to the bus station, paid for both our ways back to Harry’s house without telling her.
“Where are we going?” Gemma asked, beginning to sound nervous as we got closer to the nicer part of London.
“We’re going to see your fucking brother. He knows you aren’t dead.” Gemma went whiter than snow and went silent.
When we arrived at the nearest bus stop to his house, we got off the bus and I dragged her to the guys’ house. You could tell she was trying to fight me but I wasn’t about to have it; we all knew I was stronger than her. When we got to the door, I knocked on the door and Louis opened the door.
“Bethany…” Louis said slowly. By the tone of his voice, you knew Harry had told him what I had said.
“I have someone for Harry.” I said, pulling Gemma into view. Louis jaw dropped and he nodded, opening the door more and led us into the living room. Harrys back was to us but Zayn and Liam were facing us and both their jaws dropped.
“Harry…” Zayn said slowly.
“Harry, someone’s here to see you.” I said bluntly. Harry slowly turned around and Gemma was standing next to me, shaking.
“Gem…” Harry said slowly.
“Hey…” She said slowly, noticeably uncomfortable.
“I just thought it was about time for her to stop hiding and for me to tell you since it was killing me on the inside.” I stated, making Harry nod.
“Long time, no see, sis…”
