5. Chapter 5

No live organism can continue for long

to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality.

'Beep beep, beep beep'

Charity's eyes widened, "No, no, no!" She pressed her ear against the door and listened.

"There has been a breach in security! Lock down all the exits! Go go go!"

Well that's just perfect, like this job wasn't already hard enough. She paced up and down in the managers office, trying to think of a way to get out undetected. If she left through the door, someone was bound to see her.

Suddenly, she remembered why she was even there in the first place. It was exactly what she needed in her current situation. Immediately she started to rummage through draws and going through files until she found it.

Blueprints of the bank.

Knowing that she was running out of time, she quickly scanned the blueprints for an escape route. Charity groaned when she heard footsteps coming towards her and ran to the shelves.

The bank was attached to the building next door. This meant that they shared the same air vents. Luckily for Charity, they were just big enough for her to fit through.

She climbed up the shelves and twisted so she could go in feet first. If she didn't shut the vent then they would know that someone had been in there. When she got to a turn, Charity switched positions so that she could crawl forwards. The vents were quite dusty and Charity had to resist the urge to sneeze for it would blow her cover if they heard her. Looking at the blueprint, she saw that the direction she was going in, would lead to the ladies toilet in the restaurant next door.

Ah, this may be slightly problematic, she winced. If there were people in there, she would be seen as suspicious coming out of a vent.

She peered out and found that none of the cubicles were in use, nor was there anyone there to spot her.

Silently, she lowered herself onto the sink side and then jumped down to the floor. She folded and stuffed the blueprint into her jacket pocket, then walked confidently out of the building.

Inside Revolution

"You tell him!"

"No you tell him! I'm not the one who messed up."

"I can't deal with disappointment. You disappoint by just being alive, you do it."

"Yes, because insulting me is the best way to get me to help you isn't it Charity?" Lucio's voice was dripping with sarcasm.

"I'm guessing 'him' is me. What do you guys want to tell me?" Caleb raised his eyebrows.

Both Lucio and Charity stood there in shock. Neither of them had noticed that Caleb was even there. Because of the lives they led, it was expected of them to be on guard at all times. Lucio pushed Charity forward and winked just before exiting the game.

Charity looked everywhere but at Caleb. She sighed and whispered, "I can't get the money. Well, not today. The alarms were set off and they are on high alert right now. Its too risky. I'm sorry, I failed."

"Seriously? You thought I would be angry over that?"

Charity was confused by his reaction.

Caleb saw this and explained, "I already hacked into the banks system. The money has been transferred into a Vanuatu bank account."

Her face was suddenly blank and emotionless. "You mean to tell me that I risked being put in juvenile detention for nothing?"

"I wouldn't say for nothing," Caleb grinned. "I needed to make sure you and Lucio could work together before taking you guys out on the field. Of course it wasn't just for that because that would be unnecessary but..."

Charity cut him off, "It was a test. You set off the alarm in the bank to see if I had gotten sloppy over the years. You actually thought it was required to test me. What do you think you were doing? Let me guess, seeing if I would get caught so you would know whether your secrets would ever be revealed? Is that it?" She questioned him.

Caleb rolled his eyes, signifying that she was blowing things way out of proportion.

"You know what Caleb? You can go rot in Hell!" Charity screeched as she severed his avatars head with her battle-axe, and he disappeared.

He came back after losing a life and smirked, "Got all your anger out?"

"Yeah," she shrugged.

"Good, now let's move on to the next phase."

Together they walked into the combat section to check out their best players.
