Carving symbols. This is usual for Halloween. But in pumpkins. Not people.

Dr Kayla Dymond and Detective Matthew Evans are the worlds youngest detective/pathologist duo. They've solved countless murders by the ages of 16 and have now been summoned to help solve the greatest mass murder case of the 21st century.

Could this be the work of a single man or a massive cult?

3. Chapter 3

"Three?" Kayla shreiked down the phone. "Three more victims!?"

"Yes." Matt said, voice as smooth and cool as ice. "And no need to shout. You're gonna give me a headache."

"Oh, I'm sorry!" She retorted sarcastically "I'm just shocked that in the last 30 minutes I've been here at the precinct three more people have been killed!"

He moved his phone away from his ear and sighed "Just meet me outside." He asked before ending the call.

Placing her phone in her pocket she muttered silenly to herself "Happy birthday to me." And walking outside to meet with her friend.

"Hello again doctor!" Matt said brightly upon seeing Kayla, "Long time, no see!"

Kayla's dark green orbs glared into Matt's bright blue ones. "How can you be at a time like this?"

His brow wrinkled in confusion "Like me?"

"You know. Happy. Optimistic. Like you."

Matt just laughed and ruffled Kayla's hair, causing her to get angrier.

"You know I hate that."

His reply was simply another bout of laughter. She grumbled and walked to the van. "So, which crime scene are we going too first?"

"There's only one crime scene. All three bodies are there."

Kayla nodded before jumping into the van. "Come on. Lets go."

As Kayla and Matt clambered out the van the most horrific sight met their eyes.

As Matt had said, there were three bodies. Two were like the previous victims. Necks slit, pentagrams and such carved into the torso and limbs.

But the third body was different. It was tied to a post in between the other two. The neck had been cut and it did have carvings in the body, but not the same. It was a word, the pair knew that much, but they needed to get closer to see.

But the thing that was the scariest and weirdest of them all was on the wall behind the bodies. A pentagram filled the entire wall and was a deep red colour. The colour of...Blood.

"We're probably gonna need body suits." Kayla said, turning  her attention from the giant pentagram and pulling two white plastic onesies out of her heavy metal suitcase. She thrust the larger one into Matt's arms "Here you go."

They both pulled on the suits and ducked under the tape. "Right, I'm gonna see the body on the post." Kayla informed, putting on a pair of latex gloves.

"Got it. I'm going to ask if anyone's seen anything." Matt replied, before walking to the large crowd of people.

Kayla got to the middle body and looked straight at the word. 'Betrayal.'

Betrayal? Kayla thought, What could that mean? He betrayed someone? Something?

"Can someone take photos of this body and bag it please?" She shouted. "Lets get these bodies out of here as fast as we can."

She quickly examined the other two bodies, before getting them bagged and walking back to Matt. They looked at each other, before he said "Guess we're in for one hell of a ride."
